“good day” from the executive director
As you will read throughout this June issue, the support we have received from our
generous donors and volunteers over the past five months has been tremendous. The
Delta Guelph launched a Fifty West Executive Club membership initiative and are
donating $100 for every membership taken out – reaching their membership goal can
contribute as much as $30,000 to your Habitat Affiliate. World of Hot Tubs/HiM
continue to host lucrative 3rd party events. Donations to our three ReStores in Guelph,
Orangeville and Mount Forest are keeping our retail floors well stocked, enabling us to
offer interesting and useful products to our purchasers, at excellent prices! Everyone
helps in so many different ways!
We have ambitious goals for the next three years which will bring affordable
homeownership to at least ten more low income families. Please think about how you
can help us achieve our objectives and help break the cycle of poverty.

Over $1,700 was raised on this sunny Friday
afternoon to support Habitat for Humanity and
according to Linda Bates, Chair of MFPM’s Habitat
for Humanity Employee Committee, “I am
extremely proud of our committee members, staff
and volunteers for all the planning and organizing
of this successful event.”
MF Property Management decided to make
Habitat for Humanity Wellington Dufferin Guelph
their charity of choice in 2013. According to Maria
Finoro, President, “we believe that Habitat’s
mission and vision are perfectly aligned with our
corporate philosophy and we wish to support their
efforts in every possible way to bring affordable
homeownership to low
Maria Finoro, Sharron Riley-Persson from Habitat, and the team from
income families in our
communities.” Maria’s
husband Michael has also been a
dedicated volunteer on our build sites for
several years. Habitat is fortunate to
count on the help from this great company
and staff!
Joining the multitude of visitors to the BBQ
were some of MFPM’s suppliers, Nu

AWE EAST - Growing together
AWE (Advanced Weather Enclosures) Group is a trusted and respected
roofing, canopy and scaffolding company that has been serving the
Guelph and surrounding area for over 15 years. A family-owned
business, with over 30 years of expertise, Habitat for Humanity WDG is
proud to include them in our multi-year Corporate Partner Program.
According to Lee Westgarth, co-owner, “we began supporting Habitat in
2011 when we supplied the roofing materials and labour for one of their
homes. It was so rewarding for us to give back to the community in this
way and we quickly realized how important this organization is to the
families they help and to the community.”
Lee, his father Neil and Uncle Peter, along with operations manager
Albert Osdautaj have taken AWE past the corridors of Guelph and now
service customers across Canada. This is in part because of the
increased awareness of their products, service and warranties through
their association with “Decked Out”, an HGTV show hosted by Paul
LaFance. “Once our customers experience the great service and quality we offer, they never go anywhere else,” remarks Lee.
“Our AWE/Habitat partnership will only strengthen in the upcoming
years”, says Sharron Riley-Persson, Director of Marketing,
Albert, Lee, and Neil from AWE East
Communications & Resource Development at Habitat. “Not only did
AWE put the roof on our most recent home on Paisley Road, but they have also become very involved as
sponsors of our Ultimate Habitat House Party signature event. The future looks so bright for us when we can
count on support from our donors like the AWE Group.”
Volunteering with Habitat
Meet Nancy Frazer, our new Associate Director of Volunteer Services. Nancy joined
us in May and is eager to deliver the Ultimate Volunteer Experience by offering
worthwhile, meaningful, and rewarding opportunities.
At Habitat for Humanity, our core business relies on the power of volunteers. Paul,
volunteer since 2012 has this to say, “Habitat for Humanity WDG offers a great
learning environment where I feel well appreciated. Those I have worked with have
been very patient and have really taken the time to teach me everything I need to
know.” For Tammy in our Orangeville ReStore, “volunteering at the ReStore is very
rewarding. After a personal loss, I wasn’t sure

how to put my life back together and I can tell
you that things have been more positive for me since I started
volunteering at the ReStore.”
Interested in getting involved? There are many opportunities but we are
most in need of ReStore and Studio volunteers. “Working at the
ReStore offers the chance to advance your skills in the areas of
merchandising, customer service, warehousing, and cash” adds Nancy.
“If you have creative flair or an interest in learning how to re-purpose
and create one-of-a-kind furniture, joining us in The Studio may be for
you!” If you have any questions, Nancy invites you to contact her

volunteer spotlight– Kimberley Rogers

Lounge at the Inaugural Ultimate Habitat House
Party.
You can follow Rogers’ blog at
www.allthingshomematter.com
Kimberley Rogers is one of Habitat for Humanity WDGs most experienced and loyal volunteers with 15
years of service under her belt. It all started when a local minister in Rockwood approached Rogers to sit on
one of our very first family selection committees. “For me, this was the most difficult volunteer job that I had
ever taken on in my life to date. As a mom, it is a heart wrenching process to choose
just one family for a Habitat home when each is equally deserving” admits Rogers.
Rogers’ Habitat experience eventually moved on to build sites when she was
approached to lead the first ever Womens Build. “The women in Guelph really need
to be applauded because they came out in crowds” adds Rogers. But it was her
passion of design and decorating that led Rogers to her most recent adventure with
Habitat. Rogers is currently sitting on the planning committee for the Ultimate Habitat House Party. Specifically, this self-proclaimed “ReStore addict” leads the design
team in creating the unbelievable event décor that guests have come to expect. “It is
a challenge to raise the funds to build these homes, but as a community that
recognizes the value of providing a safe home for each of our neighbours, it's a
challenge worth finishing" adds Kimberley.
Rogers’ sense of volunteerism is a part of her genetic make-up. “I was brought up in
Kimberley on site at the
a family of givers. My dad and grandfather were great role models of giving a hand Womens Build.
up to others” remarks Rogers. “I am a firm believer that it is our purpose to create
something that outlasts ourselves and that if you do something with passion, you will get more back than
you give. To give your time, talent, and treasure, to me, that’s the definition of success.” To us at Habitat,
we suppose that means Rogers is one of the more successful people we know!
