NEMAA Directories and Bookmarks
IN THIS ISSUE:
Thanks to all of you who turned out to proofread our 2014 NEMAA Artist Directory and
Guide on Thursday, March 20th – you are appreciated. This year, we added three new
sections to the Directory: Family Friendly studios, Workshops and Classes and NE Craft
Brewers. Help your visitors to use the Directory by pointing out all of the different ways
that they can find us.
NEMAA News
We are in the final production stages and should be delivering the Directories by midApril. Look for them in all of the major NEMAA member buildings, throughout Northeast
and the Twin Cities. If you are going to be open for Art-A-Whirl be sure that you have a
good stack of them to give out.
Don’t forget the bookmarks! They were designed to help you mark your listing in the
Directory. Additionally, the bookmarks have a full list of all of the Year-around Open Studio
dates in NE – they are an easy reference for visitors to know when to return to see you.

Business
In addition to our new partnerships with the NE Public Library and the Eastside Neighborhood Services, NEMAA is involved with several other non-profits and civic organizations.
We will be represented on the Lowry Avenue Community Works Project Community Action Team by NEMAA member Tom Siwek, and NEMAA board member Sarah Lawton.
We are also working closely with Meet Minneapolis (Convention and Visitors Association)
and Councilman Jacob Frey to create more opportunities for artist members to showcase
their art around the city. We will be announcing some of our exciting new initiatives in the
near future.
With four new dynamic board members (Mercedes Austin, Erin Davenport, Paul Ostrow
and Bobbi Weber), we are really well positioned to handle the business of NEMAA. Each of
us brings a unique set of skills and talents to undertake not only Art-A-Whirl, but also the
challenges and opportunities that we identify along the way.

Donating Your Work
By Patricia Zurlo (Read Patricia’s Bio Here)
With tax season in full swing, you are wondering if you can take any deductions for the gift
of your art to charity last year. Well, maybe.
If you believe the work is of a value exceeding $5,000, and have evidence of an appraisal
performed by a certified appraiser, you may
be allowed the fair market value deduction.
Absent that, professional artists may only use
the cost of materials as a basis for a tax deduction. Your labor and fair market value are not
taken into consideration. Feel free to donate
your work out of the goodness of your heart,
but the IRS won’t be cheering you on!
This is intended as general information, and
should not be construed as legal advice. For
more information or help on your specific
situation, contact Zurlo Law Office at
