On November 5, 2015, the Piedmont Family
YMCA located in Charlottesville,VA broke ground
on a new 77,000 square foot state of the art facility.
This day has been 21 years in the making. Sonabank
was an integral part to making this dream a reality
thanks to the help of Tom Baker and Charles Bruce
from the Court Square office in Charlottesville.
The new facility will feature a 10 lane competition pool, a double basketball gymnasium, a suspended walking track, locker rooms, and multiple
work out facilities and meeting rooms. Sonabank is
proud to be a part of the community and to support
the community in which we operate.
Southern National Bancorp of Virginia Inc. reports earnings of $9.3 million for 2015, up 24% from $7.5 million in
2014. Declares seventeenth consecutive regular dividend.
McLean, Virginia, January 21, 2016 – Southern National Bancorp of Virginia, Inc. (“Southern National”) announced today that net income for the year ended December 31, 2015 was $9.3 million compared to $7.5
million for the year ended December 31, 2014. In addition, Southern National declared a regular quarterly dividend of $.08 per share payable on February 19, 2016 to shareholders of record on February 8, 2016. 2015 was
a solid year where we built on what we put in place in 2014 and 2013 – including the acquisition of Prince
George’s Federal Savings (PGFSB) and the purchase of a 44% interest in Southern Trust Mortgage (STM).
Total deposits were $825.3 million at December 31, 2015 compared to $742.4 million at December 31, 2014.
Noninterest-bearing demand deposits and NOW accounts were $111.8 million at December 31, 2015 up from
$94.6 million at December 31, 2014. Total assets of the Bancorp exceeded $1 billion for the first time. Total
assets were $916.6 million at year-end 2014.
Sonabank of Clifton Forge was recently in the
Virginian Review for their participation in The Christmas
Mother Program. The branch contributed toys and household goods, as well as, substantial monetary donations, all
from the staff, for the program. The Christmas Mother Program was started in the 1950’s to assist in the community
for those who are in need around the holidays. Our Clifton
Forge branch was happy to participate for such a great
cause.

At Sonabank, we have known Paul Aliloo for nearly three decades, as a customer
and a friend. Over the years, we have gotten to know his family and we consider them to
be some of our closest friends. His children have grown up in front of our eyes. Paul has
helped us on many occasions to decorate our branch locations (and even some of our personal homes!) with beautiful rugs and is well known in the Middleburg community for
having the best products, the best knowledge and the best service, just like Sonabank.
While we know he isn't closing his store just yet, we wish him all the best in his eventual
retirement.

Ahmad Kangarloo opened the first fitness center in 1990 in Fredericksburg, VA.
They subsequently designed and opened two additional clubs in Reston and Dale City.
They grew membership over the years and sold the business enterprise to Sport & Health
Club in 2000. The 15 year non-compete agreement has ended. They have opened a Fitness
Equation in January 2016 in One Loudoun. They offer a variety of activities and classes.
They have personal training, basketball, cycling, mind and body yoga, climbing wall and
cardio dance classes. They even have training programs for kids. Everything you need to
reach your fitness goals. After a good workout, you can relax in their day spa. Ahmad Kangarloo plans to develop additional locations of Fitness Equation after the first one is stabilized.

Robyn Reid, our Treasurer, VP has been with Sonabank since it’s inception and worked for it’s predecessor bank (Southern Financial) for more than a decade. One of Sona’s most dedicated employees, Robyn
can be found in her office by 7:30 am every day. Besides running the bank’s accounting department, Robyn
also performs several other functions for the bank, including running a detailed analysis on every municipal
bond that the bank invests in.
She lives in Warrenton and everyone at Sona knows Robyn’s son Josh as well. We’ve watched him
grow up into an impressive young man. He is attending his second year at Virginia Tech and working towards a degree in Communications with a minor in History. He already has a job broadcasting for the varsity
baseball team at Tech and we expect to see him do more of that in the future.
In 20 years, Robyn has never missed a Sonabank party and her smiling face can be found with our
CFO, Bill Lagos, Tim Armstrong, our Cashier, VP and Dianne Joynes, her right-hand woman in the accounting department. Thank you for your dedication and hard work for all of these years. Here’s to two more decades in the Sonabank family!
