Ricky is a chaperone in Washington DC with the St. Joseph School eighth grade class. I don't know their itinerary, but I remember my high school trip in 1954. All the boys climbed the stairs to the top of the Washington Monument and it was tiring. We rode the elevator to the ground. At the Masses on Saturday and Sunday, Fr. Ricky told us about the crawfish festival being held at Our Lady of La Vang parish on South Tucson Blvd, the Vietnamese parish. They'll be cooking blue crabs, crawfish and shrimp and there will be other 'goodies'. By the time you read this, their festival will be almost over, except for the Sunday hours of 8 a.m. To 3 p.m. We hope you can find some time to help a neighboring parish. Next week there will be no Masses on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, April 26, 27, and 28. Fr. Ricky will be attending the Diocese of Tucson Priests Convocation. The deacons will conduct Communion Services at 7 a.m. on those days. The St. Joseph fiesta will be here on Friday, and Saturday, April 29 and 30 from 5 to 10 p.m. and Sunday, May 1 from 10 a.m. To 3 p.m. Please stop by to support this parish and school activity. It looks like it will be a lot of fun for children of all ages. The flyer says there will be a Ferris wheel and a giant slide, just to name a few. With my susceptibility for vertigo, you won't find me on any of those. When you drive by on Craycroft Road at night, look at the statue of St. Joseph in front of the church. We have installed two lights that are directed to the statue. These lights are connected to the circuit that controls the parking lot lights and will go on at the same time as the parking lot lights. Have a grace filled week! Diacono Leon S. Mazza Administrador 3 4 Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori recently implored Knights: "In an era when Mass attendance is in decline, Knights of Columbus families should make it a priority to take part in Mass every Sunday and encourage our extended families to participate in Sunday Mass as well. How important that all of us tap into the power of God’s mercy as we seek to live the principles of the Order and build our broken world into a true civilization of love." Council 8813's next First Friday fish dinner will be served on May 6 in Healy Hall from 4:30-7. All are invited. Scrumptious hand battered fried cod, salmon and (Deacon Leon and Fr. Ricky's favorite) catfish highlight the menu, and there are plenty of other options available. If you are a Catholic man interested in becoming a Knight, please contact our council at 520-303-4791 or by email at Kofc8813@yahoo.com ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CORNER The Lord has commanded us to care for those who are less fortunate. At. St. Joseph Parish, this is accomplished in many ways. We take part in working together to bring he love and peace of Christ to those who are suffering. For example, Parishioners donate monies and also donate food to the St. Vincent de Paul Pantry. There is always more to be done! The SVdP Food Pantry could use some specific items, such as oatmeal, cereal, rice, saltine crackers and pasta sauce. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and assists us in providing for many families within our community. Thank you in advance for your generous response. ST. JOSEPH FIESTA 2016 "St. Joseph Catholic Parish/School 'Fiesta de Libros' is scheduled for Friday, April 29th from 5pm10pm, Saturday, April 30th from 5pm10pm, and Sunday, May 1 from 11am -3pm. We are always in need of volunteers for so many different committees so please attend our meetings. We have scheduled meetings for every Wednesday at 6pm in the school library. We are planning our food and game booths and there will be CARNIVAL RIDES this year! Please let us know if you want to help!" THE FIESTA IS COMING The 49’ers Seniors are running the Plant Booth again this year. We appreciate any donations of plants — live and silk. If anyone has extra flower pots we’d like them also. Please bring your donations from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on April 29. If you have any questions call Martha Tucker at 389-1365. Thank you. COMING UP SOON...FIESTA TIME We are asking everyone again to go through your closets and save all your gently used items i.e. books, dishes, table top items, etc for our Fiesta Arts & Crafts/White Elephant Booth. Also requesting any craft donations. Maryann & I would like to thank all who have donated and helped make the Arts & Crafts Booth a success over the years. Many thanks! Thank you Sherry 790-2933 and Mary Ann. MOTHER’S DAY CARNATIONS The Catholic Daughters of the Americas are selling carnations for $2 a piece on Mother’s Day, May 8. You can pre-order your carnations after the Masses or contact Angie at 270-2385. GIVE THANKS WHEN YOU SHOP… Be sure to thank the generous advertisers in our bulletin! Through their participation, St. Joseph receives our Sunday bulletin. To advertise, contact Claudia Borders, Sales Consultant, 298-1265 or Claudia@claudiaborders.com. I am currently typing this very excitedly, because our Eighth grade Washington D.C. trip is this week! I’m sure everyone will arrive there safely, and that everyone has tons of fun! Fiesta will be here shortly, and so here’s a huge thanks from the students to Mr. Granillo for getting us carnival rides! Track and field members competed in their last normal track meet, and good luck to all those who qualified.
