Mass Intentions & Memorial Candles
If you would like to have a Mass offered for a particular
Intention or for someone who has died, or if you would like to
dedicate a candle to an intention or a loved one, please call the
parish office. The stipend for the Mass is $10. The candles are
$30 for 1 month, $60 for 6 months, or $90 for one year. Our
office staff will help you find an open date and time for a Mass,
or available candles for dedications.
The End Times. Coming to the end of our Liturgical calendar, we are invited to reflect
on the Catholic teaching of the Parousia. I would like to discuss the passing of the old
order to bring the new order forward. The new order is also new heaven and new
earth. The vision of a new order provides courage, patience, hopeful expectation and
joy.
In the passing of the old order, there is chaos. The chaos should not be the focus of a
believer. In the midst of that chaos, a believer should be steadfast to Christ’s mercy
and love. A believer should look forward to seeing the coming of the new.
The passing of the old order suggests we are time-bound. The new order suggests the
opposite of temporality. I do not know what that means but faith tells me that in the
coming of the new order, I am not bound by time. I am bound by God, who makes
and owns time. The new order is eternal.
The end times ushers eternity.

In this section, I am going to republish my previous note about the sanctuary area. This republication
hopefully aims at getting the word out to all of you and encourage reflection and prayer about our own sacred
space. Here is the article, which I borrowed from the document Built of Living Stone.
“The sanctuary is the space where the altar and the ambo stand, and where the priest, deacon and other
ministers exercise their offices. The special character of the sanctuary is emphasized and enhanced by the
distinctiveness of its design and furnishings, or by its elevation…Its design is to convey the unique quality of
the actions that take place in this area while at the same time expressing the organic relationship between those
actions and the prayer and actions of the entire liturgical assembly. The sanctuary must be spacious enough to
accommodate the full celebration of the various rituals of word and Eucharist with their accompanying
movement, as well as those of the other sacraments celebrated there.”
“The principal ritual furnishings within the sanctuary are the altar on which the Eucharistic sacrifice is
offered, the ambo from which God’s word is proclaimed, and the chair of the priest celebrant. These furnishings should be constructed of substantial materials that express dignity and stability. Their placement and their
design again make it clear that although they are distinct entities, they are related in the one Eucharistic celebration.”
We have a modest sanctuary space. In our celebrations, ministers of the liturgy are able to share the
space for meaningful and grace-filled liturgies. My vision is to maximize the meaningful practice of ministries
on that sacred space by rearranging some of the appointments on the sanctuary and providing a permanent
place for the icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Our Lady of Perpetual Help, our patroness. In the next
bulletin note, I will explain the liturgical significance of those improvements.
El Final del Tiempo. Llegando al final de nuestro calendario litúrgico, se nos invita a reflexionar sobre
la enseñanza católica de la Parusía. Me gustaría hablar del final del viejo orden y de traer el nuevo orden hacia
adelante. El nuevo orden es también nuevo cielo y la nueva tierra. La visión de un nuevo orden proporciona el
coraje, la paciencia, la expectativa de esperanza y la alegría.
En el paso del viejo orden, hay caos. El caos no debe ser el enfoque de un creyente. En medio de ese
caos, un creyente debe ser firme a la misericordia y el amor de Cristo. Un creyente debe esperar y ver la
llegada de lo nuevo.
El paso del viejo orden sugiere que estamos en un tiempo determinado. El nuevo orden sugiere lo
contrario de la temporalidad. No sé lo que eso significa, pero la fe me dice que en la venida del nuevo orden,
yo no estoy obligado por el tiempo. Estoy obligado por Dios, que hace y es dueño del tiempo. El nuevo orden
es eterno.
El final del tiempo ujiere eternidad.

En esta sección, voy a publicar mi nota anterior sobre el área del santuario. Esta nueva publicación es
de esperar el objetivo de hacer correr la voz a todos ustedes y fomentar la reflexión y la oración acerca de
nuestro propio espacio sagrado. Aquí está el artículo, que salió del documento incorporado de Construido de
Piedras Vivas.
"El santuario es el espacio donde esta el altar y el ambón, y donde el sacerdote, diácono y otros
ministros sirven. El carácter especial del santuario se enfatiza y es reforzada por el carácter distintivo de su
diseño y mobiliario, o mediante su elevación ... Su diseño es transmitir la calidad única de las acciones que
tienen lugar en esta zona y, al mismo tiempo que expresa la relación orgánica entre las acciones y de la
oración y acciones de toda la asamblea litúrgica. El santuario debe ser suficiente para dar cabida a la

Tenemos un santuario en un espacio modesto. En nuestras celebraciones, los ministros de la liturgia
son capaces de compartir el espacio significativo y lleno de gracia para liturgia. Mi visión es maximizar la
práctica significativa de los ministerios en ese espacio sagrado por la reordenación algunos de los puntos en el
santuario y proporcionar un lugar permanente para el icono de la Santísima Virgen María, Nuestra Señora del

We are in need of a sacristan for 5:30pm Wednesday
evening services and for fill-ins when other sacristans
are sick or out-of-town. If you would like to know

Soup Kitchen
I recently worked at the St. Mary's Soup Kitchen as required by Linn County. I am happy to have been able to
work at the Soup Kitchen. The Soup Kitchen provides
an admirable service to the community. I was also
fortunate to meet the women who work in the kitchen on
weekly basis, Pat, Ruth-Ann and Marcy are really good
people to work with. Thanks for allowing me to part of
your team.

Eucharistic Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Please join us for Eucharistic Adoration of the
Blessed Sacrament. Adoration is available in the chapel
24 hours every day. For adoration outside of the 24-hour
regular Thursday schedule, call the office for instructions
and to enlist. Everyone is welcome. Spend as much or as
little time as you can. Thank you for offering our Lord
this special hour. Expect God's blessing, and give Him
thanks.
Thanksgiving Boxes for the Hungry
Please bring food for our annual parish Thanksgiving food
boxes. We need turkeys, hams, potatoes, cranberries, veggies,
stuffing and more. You can bring a whole meal or whatever
part of the meal you are able.
Please bring your groceries to church the weekend of November
21 and 22. We do have refrigerator and freezer space for
storage.

Holy Land Carvings
We will have olivewood carvings available to purchase after all masses next weekend,
November 14-15. The proceeds are to support Christian Catholic families in the Holy
Land; these carvings are the major source of income for them. George Alyateem will be
presenting the carvings. George gets his wares from more than 80 families in Bethlehem. There will be very beautiful
and unique items for sale (Nativities, Crucifixes, Rosaries, Statues).
The Christian population in the Holy Land has dropped from 22% to less than 2% in the past two decades and this is a
way to support their continuing to live there. Please stop by the tables in the Gathering Space and purchase some of
these beautiful wares.
Christmas Concert

Rodriguez, Nancy Higgins and friends for a joyful Christmas Concert here at St.
Mary's in honor of our 130th Anniversary. Start the Christmas Season off on a

GETTING THROUGH THE TOUGH TIMES
“It’s going to get worse before it gets better” is a
phrase that prepares us to buckle up for a rough ride. We
know that enduring a difficult time will require some
strenuous physical or emotional energy on our part before
we experience the calm of normality. Our past experience
tells us that we can endure the difficult pressure better
when we know how long it will last and if we know that
something better awaits us. Getting through the tough
times while holding to the promise that awaits us is the
message of this weekend’s readings. They point toward
the promises of God’s kingdom that will come after the
maelstroms and chaos of this world.

GOD’S WORD TODAY
One need only glance briefly at today’s readings to realize
that the liturgical year is drawing to a close. These readings are visionary texts describing the end times. Jesus’
exhortation in today’s Gospel alerts us to the importance
of heeding his words: “Heaven and earth will pass away,
but my words will not pass away.” As the liturgical year
begins to draw to its conclusion, let us absorb the living
word of God proclaimed in the midst of God’s people. Let
us be vigilant at all times, strengthened in our resolve to
welcome the Lord Jesus into our hearts at any time and in
every place.

PARA SOBREVIVIR LOS TIEMPOS DIFÍCILES
“Las cosas van a empeorar antes de que se mejoren”
es una frase que nos prepara para un camino difícil. Sabemos que al atravesar por tiempos difíciles necesitamos
tener suficiente energía física o emocional antes de poder
vivir la calma de la normalidad. Nuestra experiencia pasada nos dice que podemos sobrevivir mejor las presiones si
sabemos cuanto tiempo van a durar y si sabemos que nos
espera algo mejor. Cómo atravesar los tiempos difíciles y
al mismo tiempo creer en la promesa que nos espera es el
mensaje de las lecturas de este fin de semana. Nos guían
hacia las promesas del Reino de Dios que vendrá después
de los malestares y el caos de este mundo.

John Donovan, Development Director of Albany Helping Hands is proud to announce the first KGAL / KSHO Radiothon Fundraiser.
“We are pleased to form this partnership with Charlie Eads of Albany, owner of the two successful stations. The Home for the
Holiday’s Radiothon will emphasize the critical need for low income housing and services for the needy” noted Donovan who
further stated “We have been close to shelter capacity since spring and are currently sheltering 102 from the harsh environment.
Background: Albany Helping Hands is a faith-based 501(c) 3 non-profit corporation and an equal opportunity employer and provider. The proceeds from this fundraiser provide training and employment for shelter guests and help fund critical community missions that include but are not limited to providing emergency housing and food. We provide to the community hot meals three
times a day, serving 7,243 meals in October where everyone is welcome, even those not registered with the shelter.

The Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal provides substantial financial support to essential
ministries that support parishes in our Catholic Church in western Oregon. In the
2015 Appeal, the Archdiocese highlighted their priority of helping our young people
to encounter Christ personally in their lives, to grow in their relationship with Jesus
and His Church, and to take their rightful places – along with all of us – in the evangelizing mission of the church.
Right now our parish is at 56% of our goal, with 14% participation. We would like to reach our goal with 100% participation … if you have not completed and returned your donation card, please prayerfully make your pledge and return
it to the church office or you may send it directly to the Archdiocese.

is going on in the Archdiocese.
Adult Confirmation
If you are 18 or older and have not been confirmed, we invite you to join in the adult confirmation classes. Confirmation will happen in the spring. The classes will be the 1st and 3rd Tuesday's of each month from December through
April at 6:30 PM in the St. Maximillian Kolbe room. Adults should already be baptized Catholics and have received the
sacrament of Eucharist. Please bring a copy of your baptismal certificate to the first session.
Pocket Prayer Shawls
To the Members of the Pocket Prayer Shawl Ministry, I am writing to let
you know how deeply meaningful the work of your ministry is. As a long
time advocate for increased hospitality and compassion in hospital settings,
and as the parent of an adult daughter with special needs, I was beyond
moved to discover a beautiful pocket prayer shawl when my daughter was
at the surgery center. I simply cannot tell you what a gift and blessing it
was to hold that prayer shawl while I waited in the lobby area during her
surgery.
Such a simple gesture, but one that has a huge impact. Thank you very
much for the power of prayer and the healing comfort your tiny creations
hold and carry. What a truly perfect gift to receive!
Thank you all for your time and care and generosity of heart and spirit.
May your actions of knitting the prayer shawls and bestowing them on
those in need of comfort be rewarded with many blessings in your own
lives.
