From the Head of School
lEnT KIcKS OFF BUSy SEASOn
Students
and staff began the 2014
Lenten journey with an
Ash Wednesday service
in the Gymnasium. The
entire
assembly moved into the spirit of this special
time of prayer, fasting and sharing of our
goods with people in need. A skit by members of the Liturgical Corps reminded us to focus on the person of Jesus and not on the
gifts he gives. As each person was signed
with the cross of ashes, she was reminded to
“Take up her cross and follow Jesus.” We
hope you and your family will continue to focus on Lent’s significance during this beautiful season in the life of the church.
The school will be open next week while
students are on spring break. Our grades seven to 12 Theology teachers will be in
Anaheim for the Religious Education
Conference. We are happy they have this opportunity because they often take the back
seat for professional development in light of
the pressing demands of other departments.
Upon returning to school, the remaining
weeks of school are quite hectic. Will you
make sure your calendar reflects these dates:
n Robotics Regional (March 27 to 29)
n Breakfast with Easter Bunny (April 5)
n Good Friday (April 18)
n Easter Monday (April 21)
n Head of School Reception (April 27)
n May Day (May 1)
n Honors Convocation (May 12)
n Sports Convocation (May 14)
n Graduation (May 24)

Islands via videoconferencing.
The Academy team of fourth graders prudence Eddy
and rylie Goto, fifth graders Alyse Glaser and Kate ruiz

Track and Field off and running
After four weeks of hard training, the lancer track and
field athletes are seeing results from their work in early season
meets.
There are about 60 track and field athletes competing on the
Intermediate, Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity levels, and
the teams on all levels appear to be competitive.
In the first two Interscholastic league of Honolulu
(IlH) meets of the season, the
Lancers posted positive numbers, with the 4x100 and
4x400-meter relay teams leading the charge.
The JV and Varsity teams,

Day was all about the girls
The
concept
of
Hinamatsuri, also known
as Girls’ Day, is widely celebrated each year on
March 3, including across
campus at the Academy.
Students in Japanese
classes carefully crafted
Hina dolls using Japanese
papers and learned all
about the cultural traditions
associated
with
Hinamatsuri.
A special video made by Saint
Louis School students wishing happiness for the Academy’s students
made this occasion even more special.
In the Lower School students
donned kimonos for the day.
The students in the Junior
