Buy Your Tickets Now! The Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce is working on plans for the upcoming New Year’s Eve Gala to be held on Friday, December 31 at the KC Hall. Guests need not worry about cooking and cleaning the kitchen because heavy hor ‘douvres will be served, including large shrimp, beer, wine and setups will be provided and guests are invited to BYOB. The entertainment will be an even amount of rock and roll by The Harleys and country music by Boot Strap. We’ll have all the ingredients necessary for a really great party here in town where you can ring in the New Year’s with your friends! Make plans to attend this local, smoke-free party in Seguin and help support your community. A portion of the proceeds from this event are dedicated towards economic development. Hwy. 123 Bypass, Suite A. Business hours are Monday - Friday 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Wendell Smith is the owner of Allstate Insurance that provides auto, property, commercial and life insurance. Stay tuned for the winners to be announced at the Business "After Hours" Mixer on December 9 at First Commercial Bank and also in the January newsletter. The Beautification Committee is looking for some individuals who will help this committee be a stronger force in our community - people who take pride in Seguin and realize that it takes some work to keep our town beautiful. Please come to our next meeting at the Chamber office on Monday, January 24, 2005 at 5:15 p.m. EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP COMMITTEE CHAIR - Fonda Mathis, Texas Lutheran University The education committee does not meet in November. Our next and last meeting for the year is December 1 , 2004. On agenda is a special presentation by Seguin Youth Services, the discussion of setting up a meeting for the first of the year to discuss in-school banking, and a status update of the Family Friendly Business Program. AMBASSADORS COMMITTEE CHAIR - Mary Newman, McNeal, Garner, Lippe The Ambassadors met at the Seguin Silver Center for their November meeting. New member, Shawn Martinez with First Commercial Bank was welcomed and Kendy Gravett was introduced to the committee as our new Chamber liaison. The ambassadors honored Ms. Patsy Heckmann with a diamond necklace for her years of service to this committee. During November the ambassadors held ribbon cuttings for Eagle Rentals and Behavioral Therapy Clinic. They also assisted with the membership drive held at Wells Fargo Bank. Be sure and look for the ambassadors on the Winter Wonderland float in the Christmas Parade. LEADERSHIP SEGUIN CLASS Coordinators - Syndee Bundick, Westerholm-Koehler and Tammy Thompson, Alamo Industrial November was a journey of Seguin's History & Tourism for the Leadership Class. The day began with riding the "True Women Tour" stopping at the home of Mrs. Virginia Woods, then visiting the Seguin Conservation Society, Sebastopol, Moore House, Kingsbury Vintage Aviation Museum, and Wilson Pottery. Thank yous go out to Sherry Nefford and Dottsy Dwyer, facilitators for the day, Mike Heckmann of All Occasions Catering for providing lunch, and to the destinations for your time and hospitality. December will focus on Health and Communication high points of Seguin. The Leadership Class is also busy planning for their community project which will involve some revitalization of the Women's Shelter. Watch the newsletter and listen to KWED for upcoming donation opportunities as your support is vital to the success of the class project! GOVERNMENTAL CONCERNS COMMITTEE CHAIR - Ken Reininger, Bettersworth & Associates The committee is monitoring the Regional Water Plan and any possible effects on Guadalupe County. The County reported that it had found a way to trade "maintenance value" for their contribution of state-right-of-way for State Highway 130. Additional transportation reports from the County Judge Schraub and TxDot / Seguin Engineer Rick Castaneda were given. The committee is making a recommendation to the Board of Directors to advocate a segregated position on air quality and water planning issues. The committee will host the Quarterly Communication Council Meeting on December 7. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE CHAIR - Mark Wallock The EDC is working hard on the following issues: New Years Eve Fundraiser/Party - The sub-committee has met several times and is working hard on making this project a success. Mary Newman is in charge of ticket sales. They are available at the Chamber, Cascades, KWED, The Gazette, and Gift and Gourmet. The EDC is putting together a task force to aid the SEDC in economic development. This Marketing Team will help assist in recruiting potential new industry to Seguin. We will identify these community leaders at our next meeting, ask them to participate, and begin the training with funds raised at the New Years fundraiser, after the first of the year. The committee's chair and city economic development director have had one meeting with representatives from the New Braunfels and San Marcos Chamber to discuss forming a "Central Texas Business Triangle." The purpose is to jointly promote the Seguin, New Braunfels, San Marcos area as a place to locate your manufacturing and/ or distribution center. The Central Texas Technology Center will be used as the focal point for this joint marketing effort for job training and upgrading. By pooling our money we can create an excellent website for the area, linked all the citys, chamber, and EDC websites to attract businesses that are looking to re-locate from all over the U. S. and the world. Seventeen (17) posters were submitted and judged by Seguin High School's Mrs. Aven and her art students. Prizes including ribbons, trophies, and cash were provided by the Pecan Promotions Committee. Recognized for 1st place poster in the K-2 division was Ronnie Clark, a 1st grader at Jefferson Elementary. In the 3-5 grade division, 1st and 2nd place recipients were Krischelle Joyner and Jenelle Weinman, respectively. Krischelle is a 5th grader at Navarro Middle School and Janelle is in the 3rd grade at Weinert Elementary. Honorable Mention awards went to Charlotte Kane, a 3rd grader at Wiederstein Elementary and Kreston Joyner, a 3rd grader at Navarro Elementary. Other participants included Sabrina Garcia, Sabrina Brooks, Royal Harris, Crystal Preston, Jennifer Moore, Jacob Stewart-Muñoz, Dillon DiCarlo, Rianna Taylor, Nicholas Guel, Kayla Meegan, Cesar Chagoya, and Kassandra Soliz, all of which ar 3rd grade students at Wiederstein Elementary in Cibolo. Holiday Stroll in Central Park Thursday, Dec. 2, 6 p.m. The annual lighted holiday parade will begin at 6 p.m. featuring Seguin area school bands, lighted floats and entertainment. Winners of the tree decorating contest and parade entries are announced. City Mayor Betty Ann Matthies lights up Central Park and Santa arrives in his village. Complimentary refreshments provided. Friday, Dec. 3, 6 p.m. The evening activities will kick-off at 6 p.m. All local pets are invited to dress in their finest and join the annual Pet Parade. Carriage rides are available (with a fee) around Central Park. Santa will be in his village to visit with good little boys and girls. Christmas Vespers Friday-Sunday, Dec. 3-5 The Texas Lutheran University School of Music presents its annual Christmas Vespers in Jackson Auditorium on the TLU campus. Performance time Dec. 3 and 4 is 7:30 p.m. and on Dec. 5 the concert begins at 4 p.m. There is no admission charge, but tickets are required. They may be picked up in person at the TLU Bookstore or requested via online at http://www.tlu.edu/events/vespers/ or by calling 830-372-8024. Yulefest Arts & Crafts Sale Sunday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m. Stop by the Seguin Coliseum from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and deck you halls for the holiday season and purchase great gifts from a wide selection of handmade Christmas and allseason arts and crafts.
