Shares in the Kyoto-based company were off by about 5,000 yen after Nintendo put out a press release clarifying its stake in Pokemon Go, the mobile game that became the fastest app to ever reach 10 million downloads, and has since risen to 30 million downloads within barely a week of launch. The game has tapped into a groundswell of nostalgia for the Pokemon craze, which first emerged about 20 years ago among kids who are now in their twenties and thirties and have disposable income. Nintendo shares more than doubled from about 14,000 yen to more than 31,000 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange as the game broke more and more records. In U.S. dollar ter ms, that means Nintendo has added more than $12 billion US in market value since the free game launched. But that stock rise wasn’t grounded in reality, as Nintendo doesn’t in fact own the game in question. It owns just under a third of the Pokemon company, which is co-owned by two other privately held Japanese companies. The app itself was developed by tech company Niantic, a former subsidiary of Google that Nintendo owns a small stake in. With so many owners, the game won’t be a financial bonanza for Nintendo, the company said. “Because of this accounting scheme,” Nintendo said, “the income reflected on the company’s consolidated business results is limited.” The 5,000-yen decline would likely have been larger, but the Tokyo Stock Exchange halted trading once that limit was hit because of a built-in circuit breaker designed to curb panic selling. That suggests the stock could be in for another wallop when it resumes Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre Shaunavon, SK For Tickets and Information: 306-294-8588 • www.frgj.ca & Picatic Page 2 - July 26, 2016 Published by The Shaunavon Standard • Phone 306-297-4144 41251971/25-29JLc The Hoppers • The Ball Brothers Brad Johner & the Johner Boys Hunter Brothers • Catherine Lewans Kenny Overcast • Phil Callaway The Petersens • and many more trading on Tuesday. Although an iconic name in gaming, Nintendo has fallen to a distant third place in the console gaming space behind Microsoft and Sony, and had steadfastly refused to enter the mobile gaming space entirely until the launch of Pokemon Go. The company has in the past been reluctant to allows its properties such as Super Mario Brothers and Donkey Kong to be used on other platforms such as Apple and Android devices. Bayview Asset Management analyst Yasuo Sakuma says he remains bullish on the company’s prospects even if Pokemon Go isn’t quite the financial bonanza many predicted. “Nintendo is well-placed to boost its earnings with its other characters, such as Super Mario and Zelda and their potential is unknown,” he said. Others agree. “The market has overreacted to the Nintendo statement,” said David Gibson, a senior analyst at Macquarie Securities G ro u p. “I b e l i e v e t h a t Pokemon G o will be material in the company’s earnings given the current trends for the game.” Email: info@yourdailyfix.me Website: www.yourdailyfix.me .... CUSTOMER SERVICE: (800) 708-7311 EXT. 236 YOUR INDIVIDUAL HOROSCOPE FOR RELEASE MONDAY, JULY 25, 2016 BY FRANCIS DRAKE 1936: Vimy Ridge Memorial unveiled ..Your.Daily.Horoscope.. What kind of day will tomorrow be? To find out what the stars say, read the forecast given for your birth sign. It’s a consecration of love, says King Edward VIII of the Vimy Ridge Memorial in France. Before a crowd of Canadians and dignitaries, the memorial is unveiled and dedicated to Canada’s fallen sons. For many, the ceremony is bittersweet -- it is both a memorial to those who died in the First World War and a commemoration of Canada’s growing sense of nationhood. In 1917, Canadian forces recaptured the high ridge from German control. Canadian soldiers and civilians celebrated the hard-fought victory and contribution to the war effort. At the end of the war, France gave Canada the Vimy Ridge grounds on which to build a memorial. For Tuesday, July 26, 2016 ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Money issues are on your mind today. In addition, you might feel possessive about something that you own. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) Today the Moon is in your sign, which makes you more emotional than usual. However, this also makes you luckier than usual! Yay, me! GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Welcome a chance to work alone or behind the scenes today, because your busy pace is exhausting. This is a good day for writing and studying. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) A confidential conversation with a female friend might be important today. A money issue is on your mind, and perhaps you need to discuss this. LEO (July 23 to Aug. 22) Personal details about your private life are made public, which is not surprising because three planets are in your sign — the Sun, Mercury and fair Venus. No worries, because you look fabulous! VIRGO (Aug. 23 to Sept. 22) How can you expand your horizons today? If you can travel, do so. In particular, you will love to do research and explore new ideas to learn something new. LIBRA (Sept. 23 to Oct. 22) You’re busy schmoozing with younger, creative people at this time. Today, in particular, is a good day to discuss shared responsibilities, shared duties or shared property. Did You Know? • Before the Canadians attacked on Easter Monday, British and French attempts to capture the German position had failed. After three days of fighting, the Canadians successfully took the high ridge but at a great price: 3,598 soldiers were killed and 7,004 were injured. • Brigadier-General Alexander Ross commanded the 28th Battalion at Vimy Ridge. Of the battle, he said that it “was Canada from the Atlantic to the Pacific on parade. I thought then... that in those few minutes I witnessed the birth of a nation.” • The memorial was designed by Canadian sculptor and architect Walter Allward. His proposal was selected from over 160 other submissions in a cross-country competition. • Inscribed on a series of long walls are the names of 11,285 Canadians who were killed in France, their resting places unknown. Sitting on the walls are two stone pylons and 20 giant statues. The pylons represent Canada and France and the statues represent truth, knowledge, gallantry and sympathy. • In 1960, the Department of Veterans Affairs requested permission to destroy Allward’s original plaster prototypes. The Minister of Veterans Affairs argued that they were less valuable than the finished product because they were simply working models. The Minister of National Defence refused and the models are now housed in the Canadian War Museum. SCORPIO (Oct. 23 to Nov. 21) Because the Moon today is opposite your sign, you have to go more than halfway when dealing with others. This is easy, because three planets at the top of your chart make you King of the Road! (Cut someone some slack.) SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 to Dec. 21) You love to travel, and right now, three planets urge you to do so. However, today is a good day to work to get better organized and get on top of your game. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22 to Jan. 19) This is a playful day! In fact, you feel prankish, flirtatious and sexy! Enjoy sports events, playful activities with children and social outings. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 to Feb. 18) You are working hard. Today is a good day to pull in the reins a bit and hunker down at home. Give yourself a chance to cocoon and relax so that you can catch your breath. PISCES (Feb. 19 to March 20) Co-workers are supportive now, and this is encouraging. This is a good day for a serious discussion with someone, perhaps a sibling or relative. YOU BORN TODAY You have a pleasant nature and high morals. Others admire your sense of humor, zest for life and money savvy. In the next three years, you will experience a time of culmination, success and financial accumulation. That’s why it is wise to pay down your debt this year. This is also a social year that deals with the results of last year’s change.
