The Shaunavon Shadows will look to
generate a little electricity among local
football fans during a special event
this week.
For the second straight year, the
Shadows will host a night game at
Shadows Field against the Maple
Creek Redmen. This year’s game, once
again being billed as Fauser’s Friday
Night Lights Football Game, will take
place Friday, Sept. 4.
Last year, the Shadows beat Maple
Creek by a count of 32-0 in what is
believed to be the first high school

football game ever played under the
lights in Southwest Saskatchewan.
That match up created a real buzz in
the community and drew a huge
crowd. The game’s festive atmosphere
also helped make it one of the highlight sporting events in the community last year.
Organizers are hoping for more of
the same this time around.
“I think people really enjoyed the
game last year and we’re excited to see
how it turns out this year,” said
Shadows head coach Garret Glasrud.
“We’re hoping to get another big
crowd.”

There will be a couple of small
changes to the schedule this year. For
one thing, the game will begin a half
hour earlier - starting at 7:30 p.m. and there will be no half time musical
performances. Both changes should
help ensure that the game ends at an
earlier time and allow fans and the
visiting Maple Creek Redmen to get
home at a more reasonable hour.
In fact, Maple Creek is the only logical opponent for a night game
because of the relatively short driving
distance between the two communities. (Lumsden is the next closest
team and a night game would make
for a late night drive home for the
visiting squad).
The earlier start time will also help
the teams take advantage of a little
more light in the sky and warmer
temperatures. Last year’s game which was actually held a week later
(on Sept. 12, 2014) enjoyed ideal conditions, although temperatures had
cooled noticeably by the time the
game ended.
Friday’s game will actually mark the
second time this week that the
Shadows have played under the
lights. The team travelled to Regina
over the weekend for some night time
scrimmages against Melville’s football team. The scrimmages were
played at Mosaic Stadium.
“The kids are excited about our
night game in Shaunavon, but they’re
also excited about getting the chance
to play on Mosaic Stadium,” said
Glasrud before the team’s departure
for Regina.
Shaunavon is one of several teams
in the province that have started
scheduling night games.
Foam Lake, for instance, has been
holding night games for several years
and the annual event has turned into
a major fundraiser for that program.
Eight light towers - four on each
side of the field - will be used for the
game in Shaunavon. That’s the same
arrangement that was used last year.
Casting beams that can cover as
much as 100 to 200 yards, the
fixtures provide more than enough

light for the contest.
The lights are positioned on the
track around the field so they won’t
interfere with the action on the field
or the view of spectators.
Along with providing a unique
football experience for local fans, the
evening celebration will also feature
a party environment. Spectators are
encouraged to wear Blue and White
to help support the local team that
night.
The event will also serve as the
unveiling of a new concession booth.
Located at the south end of Shadows
Field, the building was constructed
by v o l u n t e e r l a b o u re r s u s i n g
materials purchased by the football
team.
A tailgate party with burgers will
begin at 5:30 p.m. The burgers are
being donated by Ranch House
Meats while Greg Lewans of L10
Electric is donating the buns. A half
time field goal raffle, 50/50 tickets
and t-shirts will also be available at
the game.
Extra bleachers and portable
washrooms are being brought in for
the game to accommodate fans.
Vehicles, however, are not being
allowed to park in their traditional
spots alongside the field.
Ticket prices for the game are $5
for adults (19 years & up), $3 for
students (13-18) and free for kids
aged 12 and under. The funds raised
through ticket sales help to purchase
the needed equipment for SHS
sports.
The Shadows Football Team would
like to thank a number of sponsoring
businesses and organizations for
their generosity this season. They
include Greenslade Consulting
Group, Goulet Trucking, Fauser
Energy, MNP (Monette Staff), Ranch
House Meats, Snack Shack, South

Answers to the previous puzzle:
Published by The Shaunavon Standard • Phone 306-297-4144
Mix flour and Greek yogurt together
in a bowl; transfer to a work surface
floured with self-rising flour. Knead
dough, adding more flour as needed to
keep dough from being too sticky, for 8
to 10 minutes.
Spray a 12-inch pizza pan with cooking spray and spread dough to edges of
pan.
* Make sure to cook at 500 degrees F
(260 degrees C), otherwise your crust
will not brown on the bottom nicely and
will be soft.
Double recipe if using a 16-inch pizza
pan.

(March 21 to April 19)
Financial disputes with someone
might occur today. This could relate to a
health issue you have, or it might be
directly related to your job and a coworker. Be cool.
TAURUS
(April 20 to May 20)
Heated discussions with a family
member might take place today. Don’t
get your belly in a rash; this is temporary. This tension will pass by nightfall.
GEMINI
(May 21 to June 20)
If you are unhappy, this feeling within
you will make you short-tempered with
others, especially neighbors and relatives. Be aware of this.
CANCER
(June 21 to July 22)
Your dealings with a female friend
could be challenging today. Don’t get
hung up on who is right or wrong, or
who is winning or losing. Mellow out.
LEO
(July 23 to Aug. 22)
Relations with authority figures (parents, bosses, teachers, VIPs and the
police) are tense today. You might not
like what they say. They might not like
what you say. Don’t do anything that you
will later regret.
VIRGO
(Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)
Avoid controversial subjects like politics, religion and racial issues today,
because you will only end up in an argument. People are both feisty and extrasensitive.
LIBRA
(Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)
Disputes about shared property, inheritances or anything you own jointly with
others might take place today. Think
about your long-term objective. Don’t
(Oct. 23 to Nov. 21)
The Moon is opposite your sign today,
which means you have to compromise
with others. Unfortunately, you might be
at odds with your boss or a parent. Chill
out.
SAGITTARIUS
(Nov. 22 to Dec. 21)
Disputes with co-workers are likely
today. Knowing this ahead of time,
demonstrate grace under pressure. Don’t
let anyone get under your skin.
CAPRICORN
(Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)
Be patient with children today.
Likewise, be patient with romantic partners, because conflict between the Moon
and Mars makes people argumentative.
Yikes!
AQUARIUS
(Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)
Avoid family dramas today. You can
do this by being patient or steering clear
of someone if you know an argument is
brewing. Do what you can to keep the
peace.
PISCES
(Feb. 19 to March 20)
At some point today, you will give
someone a piece of your mind. You will
say what you mean and mean what you
say.
YOU BORN TODAY You often have
to play a role in life, whether you choose
to or not. Sometimes this is because you
are physically attractive and people
ignore your other qualities. In fact, you
are multitalented. This year your success
lies with others. People will benefit you.
Therefore, make friends and join clubs
and organizations. Help others, because
you also will be helping yourself.

She had explained about magnets and showed how they would pick up nails and

Bubba decided it was
time to purchase a new
saw to help clear his
heavily timbered property. A salesman showed
him the latest model
chain saw and assured
him that he could easily
cut three or four cords of
wood per day with it. But
the first day, Bubba barely cut one cord of wood.
The second morning he
arose an hour earlier
and managed to cut a
little over one cord. The
third day he got up even
earlier but only managed
to achieve a total of 1 ½
cords of wood.
Bubba returned the
saw to the store the next
day and explained the
situation.
“Well”, said the salesman, “let’s see what’s the
matter.” He then pulled
the cable and the chain
saw sprang into action.
Leaping back, Bubba
shouted, “What the heck
is that noise?”
