Our Lady of the Assumption Mission Statement
We, as faithful followers of Jesus Christ, create, nurture, and maintain a community of love
through worship, reconciliation, healing, formation, education and service.
Through Word and Eucharist, we seek the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit,
embracing the love of our Creator in each thought, word, and action.
As humble servants of God, we remain faithful to the teachings of the Holy Roman Catholic Church,
waiting in joyful hope for our Lord’s coming.
Weekly Reflection
Todo es un Regalo
All is gift
This second Sunday in Lent focuses on the culmination
of Jesus’ sacrifice by foreshadowing it in the readings
and prayers. We read from Genesis where Abraham is
willing to sacrifice his beloved son Isaac because the
Lord has requested it. Abraham put God first. He remembered that all he had belonged to the Lord and he
withheld nothing. When God called and tested him,
Abraham responded, “Here I am.” His response is further illustrated in the responsorial prayer as we can
imagine Abraham saying, “O Lord, I am your servant. My vows to the Lord I will pay in the presence of
all his people.” Paul’s letter to the Romans acknowledges the depth of Abraham’s love by reminding us
that he was willing to do that which God did do. God
gave his only begotten Son that we might live. Paul
calls us to ponder that if “[God] who did not spare his
own Son but handed him over for us all, how he will not
also give us everything else along with him.” This is our
challenge. Amid life’s difficulties, we sometimes lose
focus and forget that all we have is a gift from
God. Our very lives are gifts from God. Lent is purposeful in that it redirects our focus to heavenly concerns. We were reminded of the fleeting nature of life
on Ash Wednesday. Mark’s gospel today recounts the
Transfiguration which provides a glimpse of what
Easter Sunday will bring.
We look forward to the
triumph of Easter and pray
that “God will “nourish us
inwardly by [His] word,
that, with spiritual
sight made pure we may
rejoice to behold [His] glory, through our Lord Jesus
Christ” (Collect)..

Abraham pone primero a Dios. Recuerda
Colecta)

Safe Environment
DID YOU KNOW?
Teaching children about boundaries and safe
touches is healthy
Teaching children about boundaries and safe touches is
not sex education. There are many safety issues we
teach children: bike safety, water safety, fire prevention,
driver's training, etc. Personal safety programs should
have age appropriate lessons that give children the skills
they need to protect themselves without frightening them.
Keeping children unaware of the dangers around them
does not keep them safe. Predators count
on children not knowing what to do. For
more information, please visit:

LA CUARESMA EN OLA
Synod of Bishops
In preparation for the Synod of Bishops to be held in October 4–25, 2015 on “The Vocation and Mission of the
Family in the Church and Contemporary World,” the Vatican has asked the world’s bishops for a “broad consultation.” In order to facilitate the response from the Archdiocese, an on-line survey has been established that enables Catholics to respond to a set of questions that the
Vatican has proposed for reflection. The survey can be
accessed on the Archdiocesan home page: http://www.laarchdiocese.org/
or
directly
at:
http://survey.laarchdiocese.org/. Responses are to be made by Monday,
March 9 in order to be included in the report that the
Archdiocese will present to the United States Catholic
Conference.
Hermana Rose Marie Tulacz.
Capilla Santa Julia.
Lunes Marzo 23 7:30 pm centro Mulcahy.
errores y malas decisiones.

Serra retreat Center April 24-26, 2015
For more than 60 years, men from our local parishes
have taken time from the overwhelming busyness of life
to go to the tranquil Franciscan setting of Malibu to quiet
their souls and calm their minds. They reflect on the multifold blessings God has bestowed on them. Most men
arrive at approximately 4pm on Friday evening. Dinner is
served from 5-7pm. If you would like to attend, the web
site for packet and info is www.serraretreat.com or
(310)456-6631. Any questions, please contact Jerry
Thomas, 805-647-4898.
