Belmont Primary School 3 December 2015 P ri nc i pa l ’ s C o m m e n t s : Dear Parents, The 2015 school year has once again been very successful. All children have achieved their personal best and this is reflected in End of Year Reports or National Standard Reports which go home on the last day of school, Tuesday 15th December. I will be talking to our Year 6 students next week about their achievements and their impressive social skills as well as to the current Year 4 and 5 students about their achievements. Once again, our preliminary National Standards Data is very high and the final data will be on our website in the New Year. The staff have commented about the effort and the perseverance the children are putting into their learning, which is very pleasing. TERM DATES Term 4 2015 Mon 12 Oct - Tue15 Dec Term 1 2016 Tue 2 Feb - Fri 15 Apr Term 2 2016 Mon 2 May - Fri 8 Jul Term 3 2016 Mon 25 Jul - Fri 23 Sep Term 4 2016 Mon 10 Oct - Wed 14 Dec Welcome to our New Entrants Josie T, Theo Reddy, Quinn Stelter and Isabel Peacocke. The Senior Syndicate have just finished their Craft and Financial Literacy Inquiry Unit. I think it was one of the best units I have seen for a long time. I would like to thank and acknowledge all the parents of the senior syndicate students for your support of your child and the school. The crafts the children made for other children were fantastic. The Syndicate raised $2658, which is incredible and shows the success of their marketing and crafts. The money raised will go to a New Zealand Charity decided by the children. The children will meet their new teachers (except for Miss Hodgson, our new Year 4 teacher who is returning from the UK) on the last day of school and their new teacher will be included in the report that goes Upcoming Events Friday 4 December Mrs Dobbinson’s Farewell Monday 7 December Junior School Prize Giving Friday 11 December Senior School Prize Giving Monday 14 December Christmas Assembly Tuesday 15 December Last day of school. The school magazine is now available in the school office for $20. There are limited numbers, so first in first served. I have just finished reading it and there are some wonderful memories of the year. Regarding stationery for 2016, we will continue to use OfficeMax as this process is very successful. You should have received information regarding the process of ordering stationery next year. A link to OfficeMax will also be placed on the front page of our website on Monday. Basically, stationery orders will be completed on-line by you; however you still have a choice of going elsewhere if you wish to. It was quite self-explanatory and the system worked very well for us and for the parent community. Please note that although the stationery orders will be delivered to your home address, the teachers will require ALL stationery to be brought into school on the first day. Community Notices We have a brochure display unit in the office area with a huge range of notices. Please pop into the office and have a look. Room 8 I look forward to the Junior Prize Giving next Monday at 1pm and the Senior Prize Giving next Friday at 1pm where we can farewell the Year 6 students. Both these assemblies are long in duration (90 minutes and 2 hrs respectively), and if you have pre-schoolers I highly recommend that you organise a care giver as these assemblies will not be suitable for younger children, due to the duration, the formality, the limited space and more so the heat in the hall. You will enjoy the assembly more too! Room 11 There is an assembly tomorrow morning at 9.00am where the children and staff will farewell Mrs Dobbinson. All families are most welcome to attend. Finally, I would like to once again acknowledge all the staff for their hard work and professionalism for the year and all the parents for their support in many facets of school life and all the children for making my job so enjoyable. I wish you all Merry Christmas and I hope you all have a wonderful break with friends and family. The experiences had on a Kiwi KHAAT trip build character, compassion, self-confidence, and worldly knowledge. Kids come away with a whole new appreciation for New Zealand. Kiwi KHAAT takes children aged 8-12 years around New Zealand, and youth aged 15-18 years over to Nepal, giving them a holiday and an experience of a lifetime. They step out of their comfort zone, stay in different places, explore new areas, make lifelong friends, learn about different environments and cultures, and give back along the way. The next KHAAT NZ camp for children aged between 8 and 12 years is six days from Sunday 24th January – Friday 29th January. The camp begins with a flight to Wellington and we travel back to Auckland visiting Wairarapa, Hawke’s Bay, and Rotorua.
