Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on
the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son
Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when
he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the
dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Flowers This Week
This week's altar flowers are given to the glory of God.
Announcements
Trinity Welcomes Jenn Holloway as Parish
Administrator
Jenn Holloway will be assuming the responsibilities of
the parish administrator position at Trinity Church
starting this week. Sarah Johnson, who had been
overseeing the management of the finances of the parish
is scaling back her involvement to focus on law school.
Ms. Holloway is a graduate of the University of Kansas
and has worked for KCPT in Kansas City. She is currently the accounting
manager at Blue Chip Athletic in North Kansas City. Sarah will be assisting
Jenn in the transition period as we close out the financial records for 2015.
If you need to contact Jenn, you can reach her at
office@trinitylawrence.org. Advent Fun Day Volunteers Needed
Advent Fund Day December 5, 910:30 a.m. is almost here, and we need your help. Last year, over 40 children participated, and we want to
make this year's Fun Day even better. Volunteers are needed to:
Make Chrismons/balls for tree
Help with paper Advent wreaths
Help make Nativity nesting dolls gifts for family
Cookie decorating (volunteers will receive instructions ahead of
time) Provide 4 dozen plain sugar cookies plus frosting/dyes/sprinkles
and/or candies for decorating
Provide juice boxes
Help set up tree and activity tables
Clean up
Take pictures
Please sign up on the Children's Ministry bulletin board in the parish hall
or contact Mtr. Susan (st@trinitylawrence.org or 7852500784). It's Time for the Posada!
The Posada is an Advent tradition from Mexico and Latin America
that focuses on Joseph and the pregnant Mary as they leave their home in
Nazareth and travel to Bethlehem. This year at Trinity we will have statues
of Mary, Joseph, and their donkey that will travel from home to home
during Advent. Members of Trinity can sign up to "host" the statues in their
homes. On the first Sunday of Advent, November 29, the first family to
volunteer will take Mary, Joseph, and the donkey from the church to their
home. There are a number of ways to make this night special:
1. Invite neighbors over for a party welcoming Mary and Joseph.
2. Gather your family and tell the story of Mary's visit from the angel
Gabriel and the long journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem.
3. Cook a special dinner.
4. At the end of the visit, the host family will make arrangements with
the next host family for transporting Mary, Joseph, and the donkey
to their home.
Be a part of the Posada and wait with Mary and Joseph as we anticipate the
joy of Christmas. You can sign up on the Children's Ministry bulletin board
in the parish hall or contact Mother Susan (st@trinitylawrence.org; 785
2500784) if you have any questions.
Adopt an Angel
Christmas is right around the corner. Unfortunately, for
children placed in foster care, Christmas may not be the
happiest of holidays. We can change this! We have the
opportunity to put a smile on a child's face this
Christmas morning by participating in the Adopt an
Angel program. Every child at Kaw Valley Center
Behavioral Healthcare (KVC) completes a Christmas
wishlist, and Trinity has 60 children on our Christmas
tree who need a gift. Once you decide to adopt an angel,
please sign the sheet in the parish hall and take a red bag. Once you have a
gift for that angel, please put the unwrapped gift in the red bag with your
tag attached to it. Please deliver all gifts to the parish office by December 9.
Consider helping KVC give children in foster care the Christmas they
deserve. For more information, please contact Vera King (9136805796).
Trinity Treasures' Sale Raised over $5,000
Trinity Treasures celebrated their 19th year of the sale of handmade items
on Friday, November 13, the same day as the Ploughman's Lunch and bake
sale. The winner of the children's quilt was Barbara Foresman of Pittsburg,
Kansas. Twenty women shared their time and talent and money to make
the sale a success, and this year's profits were $5,854. The following groups
in Lawrence were given gifts: CASA; Visiting Nurses Associations; Habitat
for Humanity; Girl Scouts; Health Care Access; Willow Creek Center for
Women; LINK; Trinity Food Pantry; Deacon's Discretionary Fund;
Salvation Army. Trinity Treasures meets every Thursday morning,
February through November and welcomes any parishioner. "We appreciate
the support of parishioners and community shoppers." Gerry Miller &
Charlotte Mueller, cochairs
Upcoming Events
Celebrate the Spirituality of Food
Join the Canterbury House for a feast on Tuesday, December 1, 6:30 p.m.

the spirit of giving. See you there! Advent Fun Day
Children 4 years old through fifth grade are invited on Saturday, December

will be making individual wreaths, Nativity nesting dolls, Christ

decorating cookies. Parents can enjoy the quiet time or do some Christmas
shopping. Trinity's youth will be available from 9:3010:30 a.m. to wrap
presents for parents. There will be a nursery for infants3 year olds. And
after the Fun Day, we can all walk down to Massachusetts Street for the Old
Fashioned Christmas Parade. Parents, please sign up on the bulletin board if you know you child will be
coming so we can make sure to have enough supplies. Of course, if you
decide to come at the last minute that's okay we will make extra and your
child is very welcome. For more information, please contact Mother Susan
(st@trinitylawrence.org; 7852500784).

Words of Inspiration
From the Desk of Father Rob This week, students from Bishop Seabury Academy
celebrated their "Heritage Day" by going out into the
community in groups to tackle different service projects
throughout the city: ringing bells for the Salvation Army,
stocking the Trinity Interfaith Food Pantry, volunteering
at LINK, and visiting people at Brandon Woods. Many
of the students spent Saturday night sleeping outside on
what turned out to be the coldest night of the season to date as a way of
experiencing what many people do who are without a home.
But I mentioned to them last Wednesday, in anticipation of that
sleepover, that the real learning experience isn't in sleeping outside, it is
coming back in. For them, it was a choice; for many, it is not. Realizing that
they have the ability to come inside should it become too cold, or just the
following night, represents a blessing that many people in this city, this
country, and this world do not possess. This isn't to dismiss the children's
activity aspiring to empathy for the lives and suffering of other people is
a worthy endeavor, but what I hope it truly did was help them appreciate
their own lives as well.
It's a lesson we could all learn as we go about our various outreach
ministries this Advent season. The capacity and resources to help others is
as much a blessing to us as the ministry we provide is a blessing to those we
seek to serve.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Rob+
Stewardship Message: What Does it cost?
To give it all is painful. If you were called to give everything, could you do
it? Jesus' generosity is extraordinary and ultimate in this regard: he knew
the cost, and he gave it all anyway. Today you are invited to count the cost of your generosity. If you give an
extra hour per week to mentor that boy, would it mean giving up that
leisure activity you enjoy? If you commit to giving an extra $20.00 per
month to that cause you love, does that mean that your budget gets
tighter? What's the cost of your generosity today? And if it is costing you nothing,
how do you measure its worth?
Stewardship UK "Advent Wonder" series TEST Tidbits: A Thanksgiving Prayer for Earth
Most Gracious God,
Creator and Lover of all that is good,
For the marvel of all your works,
in awe we praise you!
For the revelation of your dynamic, sustaining grace
through the wonders of your creation,
in your incarnate Son Jesus,
and in the lives of all who love you
in delight we worship and adore you!
For your inestimable generosity and loving kindness
especially in providing us, your creatures,
a home on your garden planet, Earth,
and entrusting us with its care
in humility we thank you!
By the power of your Spirit,
guide us, your servants, we pray
to insight and knowledge,
wisdom and understanding,
respect for, and empathy with, all your creation,
good and right decisions,
courageous actions,
and joyous thanksgivings,
as we tend your garden
As we cherish and care for
your beloved Earth ecosphere,
our exquisite home
in your resplendent universe.
And so grant that,
having obeyed your commandment
to care for your Earth, our home in this mortal life,
we may be entrusted with heavenly blessings
in your eternal kingdom.

"Caring for the environment it's a Christian thing to do!" Ministry Opportunities
Trinity Interfaith Food Pantry
The food pantry was open 9 days in October, 2015 and served 320
households (872 people: 318 children, 540 adults, and 35 senior adults).
There were 29 new households served in October. We have served 2,969
households (8,892 people) so far, this year. We are grateful for the more
than 50 volunteers who serve our patrons throughout each month. Thank
you to all who donate food in the Little Red Wagon and in the Food Basket
on Sundays and throughout the week and thank you for your donations of
money to purchase food.
GIFT Cards: A Good Deal
Grocery Income for Trinity (GIFT) cards for all the Lawrence grocery stores
are always available for sale in the parish hall between church services. A
GIFT card you buy at church is treated like cash at the store: a $50 card
buys $50 worth of groceries. And it results in a contribution to the church,
because these grocers have agreed to give back to Trinity between 4% and
6% of the total amount that you spend with that store's GIFT card. It is an
easy way to contribute to Trinity. Prayer Chain
To add a person's name to our prayer list, or to become a prayer chain
member, contact the parish office at (785) 8436166 or email
prayers@trinitylawrence.org or Colette Bangert, Prayer Chain coordinator,
at cbangert@csbart.com. The Prayer Chain prays daily for those who are ill, suffering, troubled, have
died, or wish to offer praise and thanksgivings. Prayer Chain members find
that their own private prayer life with God also deepens during this daily
practice.
Pray for those who are ill:
Kitty, Cal, Alice, Mary, Anne, Mike, Gerald
Pray for those with special intentions:
