Local Networking with Local Businesses
In this age of concern with “carbon footprint” and “localism”
what better way to find suppliers and clients than attending
networking groups locally?
Business networking is not an opportunity to hard sell though;
if you approach networking with the intent to do nothing
more than sell to the people in the room, you will almost
certainly go away disappointed. Networking is about building
longterm contacts and friendships.
It is said that up to 70 per cent of business is done by word
of mouth referral these days – so attend as many network
events as you can!
There are many ways to network, from annual membership
and lock-outs to free to attend and drop-ins. Many of the
groups are run on a franchise basis and if you are the local
organiser it can provide you with great opportunities to
market your company to a wide network of local businesses.
You will find that most attendees at these events come
from SMEs, however, you should never think that you are only
promoting yourself to the person in the room. You never
know to whom they are connected – it is very often this third
party referral that is the most valuable contact.
To get the most out of your networking try to find events
where you feel comfortable; you will be more relaxed and
more likely to create positive contacts. If you find yourself
standing alone, look for a friendly face or a group of people
you can join. Everyone is open to be approached at these
events so don’t feel shy.

Letter from the President
Farid Ahmed – President CCCI
Let me take this opportunity to share a vision with you; my vision of
the Chichester Chamber of Commerce & Industry in the not at all very
distant future.
I don’t know about you, but I reckon the Chamber just keeps
getting better and better. The events are livelier, presentations get
even more interesting, more business is being done between
members, more activities are on offer, the media asks for our opinion
more often, and we’re always having to find more chairs at meetings
because they are so popular.
Clearly, we’re doing something right. And we are going to do
more of what we’re good at, to continue improving the Chamber in
the way that keeps making it better, and not just make it different for
the sake of change.
We want to preserve the ‘feel’ of the Chamber, that sense that it is run by its members,
for its members. No Them and Us, no Chiefs and Indians, no Bosses and The Bossed
Around. This Chamber can only succeed, as it always has, on our collective effort to
improve it as the principal business organisation in the area, making a difference to the
economic prosperity of this part of West Sussex.
I firmly believe that we will best achieve this by continuing to enhance our credentials
as the foremost organisation representing business. People don’t want to see us as a
political group, a bunch of activists or generally out there to meddle, provoke and annoy.
We will generate the most respect and achieve the best engagement with local
authorities, the LEP, other Chambers of Commerce – and the general public – if they all see
us as business-focused, presenting well-reasoned opinions and advice, lobbying on key
issues that really matter, being non-partisan, secular and sensible.
In the future, I really do believe that the Chamber can become something of a
powerhouse of local commerce and for it to be recognised that being part of it is one of
the best things to do for your business.

Coastal West Sussex Partnership working together
How can the Coastal West Sussex Partnership support the
delivery of Coast to Capital’s Local Enterprise Partnership
agenda?
Hopefully you’ll now be aware of the Coast to Capital Local
Enterprise Partnership, a public private sector partnership that
has been established across Croydon, Brighton and Hove,
Lewes and the whole of West Sussex, which has a mission to
provide public and private sector leadership to drive
sustainable private sector-led growth and job creation across
the area.
Lead by a board and supported by five area partnerships,
the Coastal West Sussex Partnership being one of them, the
work of the Coast to Capital LEP has focused on two themes,
Enterprise and Entrepreneurship and Internationalisation.
The Coastal West Sussex (CWS) Partnership has an
opportunity to work with, influence and benefit from the
work of Coast to Capital. Again, the CWS Partnership is a mix
of leaders from business, education institutions and the public
sector who work together on economic issues which affect the
coastal area from Selsey in the west to Shoreham in the east
and will shortly encompass Newhaven and Lewes.
The Coastal area is well known for the economic challenges
that it faces because of poor infrastructure and low skills
levels, but is less well known for some of the fantastic
businesses we have in the area, niche industry sectors and high
achieving education institutions.
Through the CWS Partnership, we need to work with and
build on these assets whilst addressing some of the challenges
we face. Working closely with the LEP, we will seek out
opportunities to build enterprise into many aspects of
education and community activities, we will create a spatial
vision for the area which is based on growth to promote the
area as a place to do business while benefitting from the
natural environment of the sea and the South Downs.
It is really important that businesses from across the coastal
area have an opportunity to feed into this work and to help
shape and develop new opportunities. The chambers of
commerce already take an active role, but we are always
looking for others to be involved.

Chichester’s Business Improvement District – giving a boost to local business
Firstly, we want to thank you for voting for the City’s
Business Improvement District. Around £1.3 million, over the
next five years, will be invested in the city to deliver projects
and initiatives that will benefit local businesses and help
boost the local economy.
Although business rates are collected locally, all of the money is
sent to central government. The BID gives us the chance to
invest in the local projects and initiatives that matter most to us,
and to spend our money locally. By working together, we also
have the opportunity to buy together and bring costs down.
The BID is a great example of localism. It is run by you, for
you. The Chichester City Centre Partnership Ltd, which consists
of local businesses, will deliver the business plan. You were
very clear that you wanted your money to be spent on
marketing the city, organising the city, environmental
improvements and safety initiatives. This work will start on
April 1 and will initially cover the next five years.
We are very excited about what the BID can achieve and we
look forward to working closely with you over the coming
months and years.

Keeping clients local
For those working in professional services in Chichester and
the surrounding areas, recommendations are a key source of
new business. Knowing who to recommend is an important
element in retaining clients – allowing us to all focus on our
unique specialisms and ultimately deliver first class service.
Chichester has a strong networking ethos, backed up by the

Localism
Our award-winning village shops.
If you love exploring Chichester’s stunning coast and
countryside don’t forget to pay a visit to the local village
shop. We’re lucky to have more than 30 rural village shops in
the Chichester district of which five are operated as
community shops.
The community manages community shops and residents
directly control the running of the business. Profits made are
re-invested back into the business to make it more sustainable
for the future.
The latest example is Milland Community Shop, which
opened on Saturday December 3 after nearly two years of
fund-raising, planning and preparation. Others already in
existence are Harting, Graffham, Lodsworth Larder and
Kirdford Village Stores.
Community village shops keep rural communities alive –
particularly for young and elderly people, providing not only
convenience shopping, but also community services such as
prescription collection and internet use.
From Camelsdale in the north to West Wittering in the
south, our village shops are among the best in the UK and
they have awards to prove it.
The district is home to:
• the best village shop in the South East (Compton's Village
Shop & Tea Room);
• the best corner shop in Britain (Kirdford Village Stores); and
• the first award-winning, eco-friendly store in the UK and
much more (Lodsworth Larder).
That's why we've created a village shop directory. To help
you to rediscover our rural village shops and the delightful
walks and trails that can be found close-by.
It’s amazing what our village shops have to offer: from
coffee shops to bike hire; internet access to ice-cream, the
range of goods and services is outstanding.

The Sussex Snowdrop Trust
The Sussex Snowdrop Trust helps local children who have
life-threatening or terminal illnesses, and supports their
families throughout their child’s illness.
Nurses from the Snowdrop Care at Home Team visit the
families in their own homes, thus providing much needed
medical assistance in familiar surroundings.
The nurses are also able to teach parents complicated
procedures to enable them to care for their child. Vital
emotional help is given by the Snowdrop counsellor, and
urgent financial assistance is provided by the trust.
In order to provide this essential service, the charity spends
more than £200,000 each year on direct care alone. It depends
totally on the generosity of the community to donate these
funds and, unfortunately, during the past year there has been
a decline in donations received from individual supporters.
On the plus side, which obviously helps to redress this loss,
there has been an increase in donations from groups of
people getting together and organising their own fundraising
and sponsored events in aid of Snowdrop.
Household bills and general living expenses have increased
greatly over the past 12 months for everyone, but for
Snowdrop families coping with the day-to-day problems of
caring for a very sick child, these expenses are causing
additional stress. Requests for assistance (made via the Care at
Home Team), can include financial help with very expensive
travel costs to/from hospital and essential household items;
these needs are continually increasing.
We therefore know that demands on our funds are going
to be of a major concern.

Localism
The Localism Bill which the Government is promoting with its allied Big Society policies is expected to affect
charities and how they operate. We asked some of these groups, which are Chamber members, what they think
about the Bill and coping with the recession.
Disability Awareness
Localism appeared to be the final step in the European
Union's concept for England and the argument for and
against are ongoing and far reaching.
Presented by the Big Society, expansive as it is, diminishes help
for disabled people at a time when we have thousands of
disabled ex-Servicemen needing more support and
understanding. We certainly don't want a repeat of disabled
Servicemen sitting begging on our streets. For small charities,
too, funding has become more complicated. I cannot see how
this can help financial cutbacks, apart from the hope that they
will receive fewer applications. The closure of small charities and
the cut back in youth services, too, is appalling. While we are still
covering all areas, the number of visits of necessity has decreased.
On the positive side we have had a surge in volunteers from
various locations which will make it easier to provide ongoing
services in 2012. The support of Christmas fairs has fallen by 75%
in the past two years and we are still struggling to find donations
totalling £15,000 to fund a part time CEO.

We believe that Localism is of benefit to our local community
but there is a need for real intention from local authorities to
determine key spending priorities. There is also a need to
avoid service duplication within health and social care
providers and a much improved joint working relationship.
However expectations of improved joined up working means
pressure on charities to ensure that they deliver value for
money which is often within unrealistic outcome expectations
when dealing with a very chaotic and unpredictable client
group. We have had some budget cutbacks this year and
predict a trend introducing further cuts in the next few years
so whether we will be able to continue delivering quality of
service for our clients – only time will tell. We have had to
react very fast in response to various funding initiatives (on
the positive side) which have created development ideas to be
delivered at low cost and,as a result, this has created a
disproportionate workload for our workforce (on the negative
side) in order for us to remain financially stable. The bottom
line is one of the commonly cited advantages of localism is
that it encourages local innovation but there is a risk that,
without pressure from central government to include
vulnerable groups in development, they will become further
excluded and with unrealistic targets, charities will not be able
to deliver.

Localism and Lifecentre – A local charity’s experience
Founded in and operating from Chichester with a clearly
defined specialism (counselling men, women and child
survivors of sexual abuse and rape) that no other local
organisation provides, you’d expect that Lifecentre might see
much benefit from Localism and the Big Society.
In theory we do; but in practice we see a £19,000 reduction in
our funding – principally from support that is no longer
available from WSCC. At best, this will mean longer waiting
lists for those who need our help. At worst, they won’t be
seen at all. Either way, that will mean higher costs for GPs,
Social Services, mental health teams, Sussex Police and local
employers (through time off sick and lower productivity) and
the Government (through lost taxes and higher benefit costs).
It will also mean children missing school and potentially the
qualifications and skills they’ll need in our globally competitive
knowledge economy. Home Office figures show that each rape
costs Society more than £80,000. A year’s counselling at
Lifecentre (full recovery costing) is £1,500. But whoever or
whatever is to blame, it seems to me that funding scarce, costeffective front line services should come first. Even before, or
at least as part, of Localism. That would not only be a Big
Society but a Fair Society.

Southdown Housing Association
Southdown is one of the largest not-for-profit businesses in
Sussex. It supports more than 4,000 vulnerable people and
employs more than 800 people.
Its turnover is £21m a year and the majority of this is then reinvested in the delivery of services in Sussex. Wherever possible
local contractors and suppliers are used. The Association of Chief
Executive Officers of Voluntary Organisations has been arguing
for some time that the third sector can, and is, willing to play a
role in the UK’s economic recovery and in the redesign of our
public services. From its own experiences where these services
have been taken on, Southdown has been able to provide
significant savings to the public purse. In common with many
charities and other not-for-profit organisations, it is facing
significant pressures due to reduced funding and no inflationary
uplifts in contracts - at a time when headline inflation is running
at over 5%. This has been the situation for the last three years so
some big decisions to take costs out of the business have had to
be made. Southdown has always provided services that are on
time, on quality and on budget. Over the years it has also
diversified so that it is not reliant on just one funding stream,
although ultimately all its income comes from the public purse
and when that is squeezed, so is the organisation.

University of Chichester
Forward Thinking Business Required
The University of Chichester is seeking employers who want to be
involved in a fantastic opportunity to influence the development of
young people and ensure that they have the knowledge and skills
needed to succeed in the business world of today.
Recognising the crucial role of work experience in graduate
employability and the financial challenges of the new fee structure
from September 2012, the University is developing an innovative
new programme.
The Day Release Degree is designed to enable employers to recruit
high calibre young people and develop them to meet the needs of
their business through the framework of a BA (Hons) Business
degree whilst giving students the opportunity to enhance their
learning with that all important consistent work experience.
Employers that sponsor students through the programme will see a
return on their investment in terms of real business impact.
Through the recruitment and retention of high quality staff; the
creation of a talent pool to support their succession planning and
organisational development and through the import of ideas and
creativity into the development of new products, services, process
and practice.
The attraction for students is clear. As well as achieving a BA
(Hons) Business Studies degree they will have four years valuable
work experience, reduced or no student debt and, potentially, a full
time role with their sponsor employer.
Dr David Cooper, SEMAL Business Development Director said ‘the
aim of the programme is to develop effective, qualified business
professionals through a combination of academic learning
underpinned by work experience which will be gained through
employment in real, long term roles with partner businesses.’
The Day Release Degree will be a four year programme starting
September 2012. The University will lead the recruitment and short
listing of potential students to the programme and businesses will be
responsible for recruiting their specific participants from this group
through their own processes and under their own Terms and
Conditions.
The students may be employed on a part or full time basis to meet
the needs of the business and will study at the University of
Chichester one day per week. They will study a mix of business and
skill based modules and the majority of assessments will be carried
out through work related projects agreed with their employer.
Subjects covered are all key to businesses operating in today’s
challenging environment and looking to ensure they are fit for the
future including Economics of Business, E-commerce Marketing, HR
Management, Sales Skills and Financial Management.

in Worthing has been working with the University on the
development of the Day Release Degree since day one and has
committed to supporting three students through the programme.
He says “With my son starting at University this year I became
aware of the challenges facing students from 2012 and the need for
businesses to become involved in the development of our future
workforce. The Day Release Degree gives students the chance to
achieve a quality business degree without building up a debt
mountain, whilst at the same time gaining valuable work
experience.”

James Bond caps a great year
Winning Business in New Markets.
The chamber organises a variety of social events during the
year including the very popular quiz nights, theatre trips, pub
skittles, visits to our local racecourses and new to last year, a
harbour cruise and a treasure hunt around Kingley Vale.
January 17, 3-6pm. Venue: Field Place, Worthing.
The major function for 2011 was our James Bond Business
Networking Gala Dinner at the Hilton Avisford Park Hotel.
Guests at the black tie event were treated to great
entertainment, a unique casino experience including Jelly-Belly
Blackjack and a wonderful meal.
In addition, Chichester University organised an amazing
display of Bond memorabilia. From the vodka Martinis to the
wonderful “007” logo and Aston Martin, it was a very special
evening.
There was even a chance to do some Bond-style silhouette

Festive spirit at Goodwood
Christmas is a magical time at Goodwood and what better
place to get into the spirit of the festive season?
On November 30, the Chichester & Hampshire Chambers of
Commerce joined forces to host a lunch at Goodwood House.
With 110 members attending from across the two chambers,
there was plenty of festive networking taking place! The
Christmas tree and festive decorations were stunning, with
mulled wine and Champagne on arrival.
Members of the Oakwood School senior choir added some
festive spirit to the event. The choir entertained the guests
with a selection of traditional and modern carols, which they
sang beautifully. Guests had a warm welcome from the
Goodwood House Curator James Peill and, with the help of the
Goodwood House team, members explored the magnificent
architecture and fabulous art collection on show in the 300year-old setting. A delicious lunch was served in the Ballroom
with a brief welcome from Maureen Frost from Hampshire
Chamber and Farid Ahmed, President of Chichester Chamber
of Commerce and Industry. The prize draw of a wonderful
hamper, courtesy of Goodwood House, was won by Chris
Golding of Handelsbanken, Chichester.
Our thanks go to Goodwood House for hosting such a
wonderful event and for getting us into the spirit of Christmas
and to everyone who helped make the event such a
memorable and uplifting occasion.

The SCDF Coastline spreads inland
The South Coast Design Forum celebrated its fifth
anniversary in May 2011, presented a showcase of forum
members’ work in Chichester, held its first annual conference
and launched branches in Winchester and Petersfield, as well
as holding the usual monthly networking and other
scheduled events throughout the region. Phew!
While all this was going on, the SCDF announced its
expansion into Kent and Surrey, which means it will be
representing design businesses across all disciplines
throughout the south east region of England. As a result,
SCDF will become the South East Design Forum in 2012.
It will be unveiling its new website in January and holding
a second showcase in Brighton on February 1.
As Director Peter Spence comments: “I’m really proud of
what we have achieved with the forum over the last five and
a half years, but there is still a lot of work to do with our
expansion.
“We’re keen that the forum is an organisation steered by
our members – we’re here to represent them and so the
request for us to be present in Kent and Surrey was duly
noted. But we need them to help us deliver on it.”
Director of Coalition Marketing Louise Fenwick has worked
alongside the forum for the last four years providing strategic
planning and marketing guidance and has recently been
asked to become a director of the forum, to help ease the
organisation into a future without Peter, who will be retiring
in May.
Louise said: “Peter is undoubtedly the ‘face’ of the forum
and it will be challenging to pick up the baton when he
leaves. But we mustn’t forget that, as a membership
organisation, we rely heavily on volunteers in each of our
branches to deliver forum activities.
“We need to keep this momentum going into the future as
so many functions will be decentralised from HQ. We need to
be more commercially minded in this changing business
landscape but recognise some tremendous opportunities
ahead of us.”

Community renewable energy
From 2016, new housing will have to meet the Government’s
revised zero carbon standards. Although this will mostly be
done through on-site measures (called carbon compliance),
around 40% will be achieved through near-site and off-site
measures (called allowable solutions).
Developers will invest in funds to deliver these allowable
solutions, rather than deliver them directly.
Localism allows for Local Plans to set out a framework
whereby such investment goes into a local community energy
fund. Projects from this fund can only be delivered within the
planning authority’s area. In the absence of a local plan,
policy money will go into private energy funds, which are for
projects anywhere in the UK.
There are opportunities for suppliers, installers, and
engineers in both types of fund.
However, a local fund offers the opportunity to identify
and cost-up schemes in the Chichester district, and then
deliver funding for them from new developments. Such
schemes could also benefit existing buildings in the district
though reduced energy use and bills.
Chichester District Council has set up a Low Carbon
Chichester Fund, which aims to:
• reduce carbon emissions in the district;
• reduce fuel bills and provide affordable warmth;
• reduce fuel poverty; and,
• raise awareness of/and increase energy efficiency.
The Low Carbon Chichester Fund is aimed at communitybased schemes and is available for either groups of domestic
properties, or community buildings. Although businesses
can’t be the lead applicant, they can be part of a wider
partnership which makes the application, for example as partfunder, installer or developer.
The fund cannot duplicate other funding available for
renewable energy, including feed-in tariffs and the renewable
heat incentive subsidies. However, it can:
• help to combine energy efficiency with the renewables
schemes;
• fund low carbon technologies that don’t qualify for subsidy
(e.g. gas district heating); and,
• help where schemes are near commercial viability.

Thank you, say hospital Friends
The Friends of Chichester Hospitals would like to thank all
the local businesses which have supported our fundraising
this year – especially for their support for our Eye Appeal for
St Richard’s.
Thanks to generous donations of raffle prizes, sponsorship and
individual fundraising, our main events have been very
successful. The Friends have committed £350,000 to equip the
new Eye Day Surgery Unit, and we have now raised £226,000,
of which some £40,000 is directly linked to community groups.
It has been wonderful to meet so many of your members
during this Appeal.
The Eye Appeal has been the main focus of our fundraising
this year, and there is still some way to go, but the Friends
continue to support other areas in St Richard’s, most recently
cardiology, paediatrics and physiotherapy in 2011.
Thank you to all who have given goods or services – your
support for the Friends’ work is very much appreciated.

Overwhelming support for the CCCI
recommended transition
to a Company Limited by Guarantee.
We were delighted by the overwhelming support for our
recommended transition of the Chamber to a Company
Limited by Guarantee, with only one proxy vote against our
proposal and none at the EGM on December 12.
The Executive Committee is convinced that this move is vital to
safeguarding the long-term future of the Chamber and for us
to continue to flourish. We will continue to inform and
consult with the membership as this process develops, but in
the meantime we thank you for your confidence in leadership
of the Exec team.
Stansted Park
Stansted Park, which hosted the December chamber meeting,
has historic state rooms, chapel, and extensive downstairs
servants' quarters which are open from April to September.
School visits and pre-booked group visits are always very
welcome.
Every day all the family can spend a day at Stansted Park
exploring on safe footpaths, buy locally raised plants at
Stansted House Garden Centre, indulge in afternoon tea or a
lovely light lunch at the Pavilion Tea Room, and on Wednesday
and weekends, go on the Stansted Park Light Railway or visit
the craft workshops, the Studio Pottery or Buttercup Blue. The
amazing new yew maze at Stansted Park, opened in 2011 in
the lower walled garden, is a great fun family attraction for
weekends and in the school holidays, open 11am-4pm
February- October (weather permitting). The maze is currently
closed for winter maintenance.
Stansted Park hosts fabulous weddings, exciting events:
open-air theatre, concerts and cricket - which has been played
on the lawns in front of Stansted House since the 1740s.

Changing the Chamber’s status to CLG
Following the debate on the future corporate structure of the Chamber, two members, Sarah Matthews and Vince Waldron,
give their view on Company Limited by Guarantee status.
Why I’m in favour of CLG
To me, the reason to move to a Company Limited by
Guarantee (CLG) is a no brainer. Why – because during my
career within SMEs I have had some exposure to different
corporate structures so understand the inherent risk to the
executive committee of staying the way we are (an
unlimited, non-profit member organisation) and see the
limitations it is imposing on the growth and development of
the chamber (CCCI).
If you’re not convinced or can’t see the need for change then
read on.
Our chamber, with the exception of two part time roles
(Julie and Carylyn), is run by its members for its members and
therein lies the risk in the current structure. To me, one of the
most concerning risks is that the members of the executive
committee are liable if legal action is taken against the
chamber or an event gets cancelled and there isn’t enough in
the bank account to cover the deposit etc.
As a member of the Business Affairs Group, I have seen that
all decisions taken by chamber committees are carefully
considered using the excellent skills and experience of the
committee members. Yet there is a risk that something could
go wrong and they could end up footing large bills
themselves.
The role of the chamber continues to change and I regard a
recent event as a milestone in its history.
Earlier this year the chamber incorporated the local PEP –
the Planning for Economic Prosperity organisation – as a
strategic sub-committee. The PEP was formed in 1984 to
represent the interests of businesses in the Chichester district.
It consulted with government agencies, and those
responsible for putting an appropriate infrastructure in place,
to enable businesses to contribute effectively to the economic
prosperity of the region and to provide strategic links outside
the district. Interestingly when the PEP was set up the
chamber was approached to provide this service but in 1984
the majority of the members were city centre traders.
Since 1984 the chamber has changed considerably and now
represents a far wider base of commerce and industry so by
2011 it was a natural next step in the chamber’s growth and
development to incorporate the PEP.
Regardless of the legal structure, the chamber will continue
to be run by its members for its members - and it’s the people
that make the organisation what it is. The CLG requires what
appears to be a more formal structure, but in reality, apart
from a chairman, there are parallels between the current
structure and the proposed CLG structure.
On being a member of a Chamber governed by CLG status
I would suggest that our discussions within Chichester
Chamber about whether to become a company limited by
guarantee are partly driven by fear of the unknown.
I therefore thought it might be useful if I said something
about my experience of being a member of a CLG-type
chamber of commerce, Kingston upon Thames, which became
a limited company by guarantee more than 20 years ago.
I joined it in 1998 when I left corporate employment to start
my own business. Then and over the years, I was given
numerous networking opportunities with all kinds of
businesses and local institutions.
The chamber also has a close working relationship with the
local authority and with the wider London bodies funded to
support the business community.
This wider network has enabled it to offer a range of
services on business improvement, business start-up and, at the
present time, help for unemployed professionals. It also gave
me the opportunity to provide my services not only in the
borough of Kingston but all over London.
A constant factor in Kingston Chamber’s success has been
the solid structure given to it by its CLG status. While I have
been involved there have been two very active chief
executives, sitting on strong boards with directors coming
from SMEs, big business, professional firms and prominent
local institutions such as Kingston University.
The non-executive directors are all volunteers, are regularly
renewed and are voted on by the members at the AGM. The
chamber president also comes from their ranks. Together they
provide the necessary guidance to the chief executive, derived
from their wide collective experience.
It is hard to imagine that the success of Kingston Chamber
has not been due, at least in part, to its CLG structure. It seems
to me that Chichester Chamber has much to gain by taking
the same direction.

The Learning Journey led members at the Breakfast Meeting on December 2 to
‘Find the Animal Within’
Jo Scott and Janet Dunstone led a fun, lively and interactive taster session
introducing behavioural styles. Members were encouraged to determine whether
they were a Lion, a Monkey, a Horse or an Owl! They discovered the characteristics
of each animal and how these impact on communication and relationship building.
Jo and Janet work with individuals and organisations and have extensive
experience in developing people and teams both through developing training
programmes and coaching individuals. They pride themselves on making a lasting
impression, impacting on results and delivering a return on investment. Currently,

Stonepillow’s Big Sleep Out success
Stonepillow’s Big Sleep Out took place at Chichester
Cathedral on Saturday October 29 with more than 100 people
taking part. The Big Sleep Out aimed to raise funds and
awareness for vulnerable people in Chichester, Bognor and
Littlehampton. We have a wide range of people who we
help, from our young people just aged 16-18 to our older
clients, who feel that they have no alternative but to sleep
rough. Supporters braved the autumn temperatures and rain;
so far the Big Sleep Out has raised £9399.43 and still has
sponsorship money to come. Community fundraiser Dawn
Ingram said: “We are really happy that so many people took
part in the Big Sleep Out and thrilled that we have raised the
profile of Stonepillow in the local community.
“We would like to thank all of those who supported us by
volunteering, sleeping out and all the local businesses that
sponsored the event in kind or financially. It’s great to have
all your support behind us during this economic climate.”
