1st PROACTIF SENIORS NEWSLETTER
Dear Readers,
This has been an exciting phase in the Proactif Seniors project cycle and we are pleased to present you the
very first edition of the Proactive Seniors Newsletter.
The Newsletter offers a communication platform for sharing and learning – primarily, it brings to you the
exciting news about the different phases of project implementation. Apart from the project narratives, it
highlights best practices from partner countries across Europe and informs about significant events happening from time to time.
We welcome your feedback regarding our first Newsletter – and of course, we appreciate your staying in
touch with Proactive Seniors through our website www.proactifs-seniors.com. We are in the initial stage of
connecting over the virtual network via Facebook page and Linked In.
In this newsletter you will find a short description of our project “Proactif Seniors”, preliminary information
about our partners in Europe and the first good practices of our Partner meetings in Bastia (France) and
Portalagre (Portugal). Additionally, in all future editions of the newsletter you will find interesting articles,
our Pinboard for sharing and announcements, forthcoming events as Partner meetings, conferences, interesting events and a Readers' Column.
1. Short description of the project:
Europe faces a real problem: an ageing population. One of the major challenges of the twenty-first century
will be to meet the increased demand for health care. Health systems will have to adapt to the needs of an
ageing population, while ensuring their sustainability in a society where the labor force is decreasing. The
main objective will be to promote a healthy and active lifestyle for older Europeans. The Lisbon European
Council (March 2000) clearly advocated establishment of lifelong training programs geared towards the
elderly people. The community recommendations to support politics and actions were held guaranteeing a
proactive and comprehensive approach to the problem of ageing people. It aims not only to extend the
working life of older workers, but also to keep older people active. 2012 "European Year of Active Ageing".
This project has been funded with support from the European Commission.

Therefore, the development of specific courses and training for old people is our main challenge within the
project : to acquire new skills through formal, non formal or informal learning; to have access to education
and training to develop one’s potential; to blossom and to interact in society through prevention.
The objectives of the project:
To compare and share tools, training content for seniors at European level and collectively;
To equip aging people with knowledge, skills and practices to enable them to develop and maintain
an active behavior in society;
To develop training content for the elderly to stimulate useful behavior for monitoring the health
of the body;
To develop a specific training kit used by the elderly;
To promote the involvement of older people in specific training programs
