Welcome to our Parish
MISSION STATEMENT—We, the community of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, located within
the larger, diverse and artistic seaside community of Laguna Beach, recognize and celebrate
the uniqueness which is grounded in the sacred mysteries and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church and in the history and lives of our individuals, families and leaders. Built on these
roots, and in order to see the world as God sees it, we commit ourselves to: being a welcoming
sanctuary and a place of prayer and worship, nurturing, assisting, encouraging and serving all
those in need, offering all generations opportunities for personal and communal growth, and,
by these commitments, to honor our call to evangelization.

The Annunciation of the Lord
Abstinence
Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord—Tuesday, March 25
The feast of the Annunciation of the Lord celebrates the angel Gabriel’s appearance to the Virgin
Mary, his announcement that the Blessed Virgin had been chosen to be the Mother of Our Lord, and
Mary’s fiat—her willing acceptance of God’s holy plan.
Originally a feast of our Lord, but now celebrated as a Marian feast, the feast of the Annunciation
dates back at least to the fifth century, and the date of the feast,
which is determined by the date of Christmas, was set at March
25 by the seventh century. The Annunciation, as much as or
even more than Christmas, represents Christ’s Incarnation. When
Mary signaled to Gabriel her acceptance of God’s Will, Christ was
conceived in her womb through the power of the Holy Sprit.
While most of the Fathers of the Church say that Mary’s fiat was
essential to God’s plan of salvation, God foresaw Mary’s acceptance of His Will from all eternity.

2014 PSA Questions and Answers
Q. What happened to the gift I made to the capital campaign for the 2013 PSA?
A. The first funds raised for the capital campaign were used to fulfill the 2013 PSA and $6.1 million has been granted out to fund the annual, ongoing support of the diocesan ministries supported
through the PSA.
Q. I thought my gift to the diocesan capital campaign included our PSA gift to cover future
years during the capital campaign gift redemption.
A. The capital campaign included the 2013 PSA only. The campaign materials communicated that
“In 2013, our capital campaign will include our annual appeal to support Diocesan pastoral ministries and services. The PSA will return in 2014.”

ALL ARE WELCOME!
Two authorities on the subject of mysticism, Fr. Dave Denny and Tessa Bielecki, co-founders of the Desert
Foundation, will give a series of four talks about this rich tradition of the Christian faith. They will answer
questions about the definition and origins of mysticism and will introduce us to many great mystics including the Desert Fathers and Mothers, John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, Catherine of Siena, Anthony of Padua, Hildegard of Bingen, Meister Eckhart, Francis of Assisi, Ignatius Loyola and many other lesser known
mystics. They will also speak about the role of mysticism today.
A rare opportunity! Don't miss it!
"The Christian of the future will be a mystic
or he will not exist at all."

Cristo murió por nosotros,
cuando aún éramos pecadores.
— Romanos 5:8
a escucharle.
No tenían agua.

completamente iniciado.
