Look for the table in the corner. How Many Kings Do You Know? I know a few kings—the four kings in my sheepshead game. Other than that, I don’t know any kings. I’ve seen them on television and they seem very important, important like our president. The crown makes them seem even more important! I know that so many people got excited about the wedding of Princess Diana and the wedding of Kate and William. People are drawn to royalty. Help Your School and Your Parish! Buy lots of SCRIP! Watch for more details. Monday, December 17—Fr. Jack Mullarkey will speak to us on The Infancy of Jesus. 6:30 pm—Friendship Hall. He’ll teach about the true meaning of Christmas. Join us for a relaxing and educational evening. Bring a bible. Calendar winners will be in Next Week It’s Poinsettia Ordering Time The Advent Season will soon be upon us, so it’s time again to place orders for poinsettias and wreaths. If you would like to contribute in memory of a loved one, or in your own name, please complete the order blank found in this bulletin. It’s hard to believe that Christmas is right around the corner. We appreciate your generous hearts in past years and during this upcoming Christmas Season. Just a little educational reminder: Christmas liturgical colors are gold and white, but we will have some red poinsettias again. Have a blessed Advent Season. Make time for confession. We all know Jesus as a baby, don’t we? We plan every year to celebrate his birthday on December 25. But how many of us know him as a King? He was accused of saying he was the King of the Jews, and the authorities were afraid his popularity would make them lose their power. They wanted all the power; they didn’t want this “Jesus” anywhere around. Much of the general public, though, including his disciples, thought he was coming to save them from Roman rule, and they loved him. They wanted him to be their king, but Jesus told them that his kingdom was not of this earth. As Catholic Christians, we believe that Jesus will return to this earth. But, when he returns, he will not come as a little, helpless baby, as a suffering servant. Jesus will return as a King, in all his glory! He will be a true King. He is now seated at the right hand of his Father, and his kingdom will have no end. Prepare the way of the Lord! So, next time we get all excited about royalty, next time we see a king or a queen on television, a prince or a princess, let’s remember the “true” King – Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. After all, he is the only King who matters. “The King of glory comes, the nation rejoices. Open your hearts before him; lift up your voices.” Deacon Bruce The “Catholicism” Series “Prayer and the Life of the Spirit ” Meet in the Gathering Space to view the Monday evening or Tuesday morning sessions of the “Catholicism” DVD series. All welcome. Free. No registration. DVD 9 Monday evening, November 26: 6:00—7:15 pm Tuesday morning, November 27: 7:45—9:00 am On pilgrimage to the places where the saints and spiritual masters lived, Father Barron explores the different types of prayer: contemplation, adoration, petition, intercession. The Catechism states: “Prayer is the lifting up of the mind and the heart to God.” Prayer can transform us. ~Important Dates to Note~ Golden Faith Luncheon Sunday after 11am Mass Knights selling lifesavers after all Masses this weekend Help clean the church next Saturday, December 1. This year’s show not only marks our 10th production, but it will mark over 500 people performing on the Bravo stage either as singer or musician. What we still need… With rehearsals moving forward, we are now able to look ahead to some of the other pieces that must be put into place before the curtain lifts. We are in need of people to help fill these “behind the curtain” responsibilities: One stage manager; this person is in the booth with a script telling when this or that happens. This person watches over all the show. One sound booth person; This person adjusts mics and manually turns them on/off for soloists when needed. One mic wrangler for backstage; this person ensures that the 22 handheld mics are on and gets them back in place from people using them. Three people operating the flys (curtains). One lightboard person; All the lights will be preprogrammed. This person will have cues to hit a button in the correct place. Stage crew could include some 7-8 grade students, high school students or adults. Some of these positions just demand attention to pushing light or sound buttons that have been programmed. Those who take on operating the flys will need to be able to pull up the heavy curtains at certain parts of the show. Upcoming Events Culver’s Scoopie Night Monday, November 26, from 5:00–8:00 pm (Calumet Street Location) Culver’s will donate a portion of the sales during that timeframe to KCSS Home & School Association.
