By Bob Kuykendall The R-“IDES of March” With the coming of Spring and daylight savings time this month, I am sure you have been busy planning and laying out your waypoints for your R-IDES of March. We are very fortunate to live here where we can ride all year, but late Winter-early Spring rides are magical. All the hills will be at their peak of greenness and the trees are in their colorful blooms putting out flowers, leaves, and wonderful fragrances. The only problem with the R-IDES of March is there are so many places to go and things to see and people to meet. If you like group rides, please consider joining one of the outstanding BMW dealer shop rides-just go to their websites and pick one that interest you, including; Cal Moto/TriValley Moto on the first Sunday of the month at http://www.calmoto.com/community/rides/archive.html; Cycle Specialties at http://www.cyclespecialties.com/custompage2.asp?pg=shoprides; You can check out San Jose BMW’s list of tour rides of Northern California at http://sjbmw.com/community.asp?s=tours. Going farther afield you can check out two other excellent sources for ride suggestions – Friction Zone at http://www.friction-zone.com/west/discover.html where each issue has a Tankbag Tearsheet with suggested rides throughout California. You can also go to the Pashnit website and explore the hundreds of ride destinations with maps and photos http://www.pashnit.com/motoroads.htm Continued next page… page number 2 March 13th Club Meeting and Ride to Blackhawk Automotive Museum One of our three wheeled riding members -aka Dave Smith – recommended a meeting location in San Ramon, Pavlo’s Pizza and Pasta. Both of these photos were taken on Skaggs Springs Road above Lake Sonoma in Sonoma County California. The motorcycle is obviously a BMW. My faithful 1990 K75S. Thank you! Jay Sexton Sebastopol, CA Thank you, Jay! Ed. Connie and I spent the week before Presidents’ Day in Palm Desert enjoying clear skies, mideighties and no wind. We found the motorcycle sculpture on El Paseo to be interesting. DeGimp AKA Rich Alves page number 9 Editor, Excellent first issue Editor Todt! Rich Alves video suggestion on “old farts” in the dirt was great. As usual, one thing leads to another, so here are three more fun videos: Bonneville Dreams Do Come True: https://youtu.be/-u4u4m4K1oc?t=7 How about CCBR puts together a salt team? Maybe we can campaign Bob’s tricycle? How fast will it go? Maybe some JATO bottles would help? The day was perfect for a ride, and the parking lot was well represented with BMW’s. John Weinholz of Cycle Specialties was our guest speaker. He gave us a little background on how Cycle Specialties got its start, and some of the new things that BMW has come out with for this year and some that are in the planning stages. As always, we enjoyed hearing from John. Of course the highlight of this meeting was the drawing for the Mendocino getaway. After two false starts (former winners declining to win again) the getaway was won by Terry Tracy. Bob Kuykendall filled us in on some of the planned activities for this year. Sounds like it will be a busy one. The food was good and the company was even better. Bob Kuykendall made announcements… Bob Jackson told war stories… Club members were on their best behavior… Cont. next page… page number 11 Jim explained, Terry wasn’t sure… Jim wo n, but w hat??? ? Thank you Glenda and Rich!!!! page number 12 page number 13 HEAD FOR THE HILLS Glenda Oxford Fiedler If you are getting antsy to take a ride, the next time the weather clears try a ride into the foothills. The second Tuesday in February was a perfect day for a ride, the weather forecast was for the 70’s and we were ready to go. I really wanted to give my new boots their first ride. Our route took us from Ceres to Waterford, then 132 through LaGrange to Coulterville. After a brief stop for a leg stretch we took Highway 49 to Jamestown and Sonora. The hills were green and lush and we saw lots of happy California cows enjoying the day as much as we were. Since we really didn’t know where the snow line began, we ended our upward journey in Sonora. After a great hamburger at the Diamondback Grill in Sonora we headed for home, stuffed and happy. It had been a perfect day. Heading into La Grange....the sign is bigger than the town. For any rodeo buffs, this year's LaGrange rodeo is scheduled for April 3. The green, green hills of home. Yes, that actually is a stream running down the side of the hill. Haven't seen that in at least 4 years. On 132 heading for Coulterville. The Coulterville Museum. Even the building is an antique. page number 14 Moccasin Point, part of the Hetch Hetchy power and water project. Lake Don Pedro from Highway 49. Obviously a long way to go to be full again. We found a parking place right in front of the Diamondback Grill. A couple of happy California cows. Wonderful article.
