June 2015 Newsletter - Grapevine Chamber of Commerce
June 2015 Monthly Newsletter from the Women’s Division of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce Established 1965 Grapevine Chamber of Commerce • 200 Vine St. Grapevine, TX 76051 • 817-481-1522 From Our Chair, Nancy Coplen It’s looking like a great summer. Grapevine Lake is full beyond capacity; summer events are beginning; and the Women’s Division members will be relaxing somewhat until our big volunteer effort Saturday August 8, 2015. We will be partnering with the GCISD Education Foundation’s CONNECT, GRACE and GCISD at the Back to School event. Because of the hard work of our members and community coming to our Holiday Hoedown and Great Taste of Grapevine events we will be purchasing $30,000 of school supplies for deserving students of GCISD. Thank you to all of the Women’s Division members that worked the “Beverage Booths” for Main Street Days, Friday May 15. Emily McRoberts of Homestead Grapevine Winery Tasting Room organized all the ladies to work; and even with the rain, business was brisk most of the day. Thanks Emily for your effort! At our May luncheon, we enjoyed our annual GRACE fashion show with employees of GRACE showing off great outfits to purchase at their Style and Grace Store. Our June luncheon will be a Member Round Table - “Post-it Note Challenge” to determine goals for the Women’s Division 50th anniversary and beyond. I look forward to seeing Post-it Notes flying with excitement at our goal brainstorming luncheon. Great work, Women of the Women’s Division of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce, working hard and calmly serving the Grapevine community! See you all at our next luncheon Tuesday, June 16. Here’s A Tidbit from our past as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary! In 1974, the Women’s Division sponsored and published a Reference Directory that listed city officials, businesses, churches and organizations. TP&L, the electric company gave it out to all new residents, and each business in town also received one. This was the forerunner of today’s Chamber Directory. After expenses were paid, they used the remaining funds to purchase an IBM typewriter and a desk for the Chamber of Commerce office. From our Chair-Elect, Karen Deakin 2015 Executive Committee Our June meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 16,, 11:45 am, at our new luncheon venue, Messina Hof Winery, 201 S. From our Vice Chair of Christmas Spirit, Traci Coy The Back to School Fair is drawing closer! Last year, Grapevine Women’s Division lead the charge in providing $23,000 for school supplies to GCISD students, and many of us volunteered to distribute the school supplies on the day of the event. Currently, I am working with leaders in our school district and our school supplies vendor to order the prepackaged school supplies. The date of the Back to School Fair is Saturday, August 8, 2015. We will need volunteers from Women’s Division to assist with this effort in August, and I will provide more specific details and a sign-up list on how we need your assistance at our June and July meetings. If you are not able to attend one of these meetings, but would like to sign up to help at the event, feel free to contact me at traci@tracicoycpa.com or 817-729-0963. From our Vice Chair of Sponsorships, Susie Howell Now that Great Taste of Grapevine and Main Street Fest are behind us, we turn our attention to the Holiday Hoedown on November 12th at Austin Ranch at the Hilton DFW Lakes. Many thanks to Wright Construction and Wright Development for being our Presenting Sponsor for the Holiday Hoedown! There are numerous remaining sponsorships available, so if you or your company are interested in a sponsorship, please let me know. Please see the attached sponsorship levels that are available. All fundraising from the Holiday Hoedown assists the Women’s Division in providing not only back packs and school supplies for students within the GCISD, but providing Christmas spirit for some of our less fortunate senior citizens living in Grapevine. If you have any questions about how to become involved or help with sponsorship opportunities, please feel free to contact me at Susie.howell@frostbank.com. .
