Stained-glass windows were less visible than the statues of soldiers, avenues of honour and obelisks, but no less important as symbols for remembrance and gathering places for collective mourning. On the eve of ANZAC Day 2016 Dr Bronwyn Hughes will speak about these memorial windows and her latest work in progress – Lights everlasting: ANZAC commemorated in stained glass. Writing historical fiction Researching, preser ving and restoring old photographs Are you an aspiring author or history enthusiast? Find out how to make history come alive for all to enjoy. Kirsty Murray, Australian author, will discuss writing historical fiction and the importance of continually reinterpreting historical events through fiction. Come and join Peter King, from local business Peter King Retouching Studio, as he discusses how to date, conserve and restore old family photographs. Peter’s talk will include techniques for scanning, copying and printing photographs. Ron Killeen will discuss the 20km railway track that connected the east side of Melbourne more than a century ago. Have you ever wondered what life was like for household servants in times gone past? Ever been interested in researching a heritage building or house? Ann Dixon, from Bygone Days, will bring the everyday circumstances of domestic servants to life in this talk.
