HONESTY FRIENDSHIP
Thursday, May 12th, 2016
Dear Families,
It was great to return to school last week with news of
our success in winning The Good Guys “Super School
Award.’ Out of several hundred entries nation-wide, our
application was declared the overall winner. I was very
proud of our students during the presentation assembly
and want to give special mention to our school captains
for the role they played. See the special insert in this
week’s newsletter for more information.
Welcome to new staff:
This term we welcome 3 new teachers to our school.
Julie Hughes will be teaching Geography this term to
Reception to Year 3 classes and Science in terms 3 &
4; Hayley Williams will be teaching in Room 5 on
Fridays and Rosie Sarakinis will be teaching Drama on
Friday mornings and Room 4 students on Friday
afternoons.
My holiday in South America was very memorable and
exciting. Visiting countries such as Peru, Chile,
Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay and Brazil made me
appreciate the life we have in Australia. Although many
of the people are extremely poor, they are so welcoming
and friendly. The Inca sites such as Machu Picchu were
amazing, as were the Iguazu Falls and Rio. We didn’t see
a mosquito during our stay.
Now back to work!
This week has seen our Year 3, 5 & 7 students sit the
NAPLAN tests in Language Conventions, Writing,
Reading and Maths. These students have all put in a
great effort during this time. Results will be forwarded to
families later in term 3. Written student reports will be
sent home by class teachers at the end of this term.
Volunteers Week
May 9th—15th is Volunteers Week throughout Australia
and it is fitting to recognise the amazing support we
receive from many current and past parents and friends.
We are truly grateful for the help in our canteen, library,
grounds and classrooms. Special thanks to parents and
staff who gave their time on Mother’s Day at Bunnings—
Alysha, Alan, Michelle, Lee, Julie, Carol, Nic, Mel, Maxine.
We raised $1361 which will provide additional
technology resources for our school.

Schools aim to support the control and prevention of
the transmission of head lice. However, staff in
schools are not responsible for the management of
head lice infestations. Notes are sent home if head
lice is reported in a class with instructions seeking
parents’ assistance in checking their children’s hair
and treating if lice or nits are found. Treatments from
chemists and supermarkets should be used with a fine
tooth head comb to remove all lice and nits.

SPRINGBANK RESERVE
(OFF SPRINGBANK BLVD)
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
On Friday 20 May, Burton Primary is celebrating Walk Safely to School Day by walking from the Springbank Reserve to the
front gates of our school.
We encourage students and families to join staff and special guests at 8.00am where we will meet and begin our safe journey to
school.
Walk Safely to School Day is about considering our transport habits and trying to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy,
active way to get around.
Upon arrival at school, students will be given the opportunity to purchase a healthy breakfast including a bacon and egg roll for
$3.00, sausage in bread $2.00 or a bowl of cereal for $1.00. Fruit will be available free of charge.
