Everyone had a great time at the 2009 Holiday Party! For those of you who weren’t able to make it, I hope that you’ll be able to attend this year! Here’s a little about what you missed. We had a wonderful dinner catered by Pappasito’s Cantina. The food was really delicious! Our neighbors did not let us go without wonderful desserts – a big thank you to everyone who brought their favorite holiday dessert (lots of cookies, of course). We were also able to make a sizeable donation to the Round Rock Serving Center. Thank you for helping those in need at this very special time of year. Of course, the evening wasn’t all about food! We had lots of activities for the kids. There was face painting, a balloon artist, lots of arts and crafts, and Santa even made a visit to the Wingate Hotel for all the sweet girls and boys of Sendero Springs! Throughout the evening, we gave away numerous door prizes in the form of gift cards. The Most Festive Yard winner was awarded a $25 gift card to Target – the Petersens of Mirador Cove were the lucky winners! Hopefully, you had a chance to check out their light display and all of the other lovely lights throughout the nieghborhood. Of course, this event never would have happened without the amazing members of our Social Committee! Tammie Petersen, Chris Cantu, Rebecca Graves, Jeannie Johnson, Danyielle King, Deirdre Martin-Ross, Lynne Harris, Lisa Nicholas, Jill Shermer, Yvette Hammack, Tammy Keating, Cathy Hernandez, Robert Charanza, Sue Lilly, Jen Kim, and Jeannette Morrison put a lot of hard work into making this event a huge success! I also want to thank Ed Orlin and the rest of the Board, without their generosity this would not have happened, so thank you! The area has been graded and topsoil has been installed. We expect the seed and fertilizer to be laid sometime soon. I would like to thank the Brushy Creek MUD, the Sendero Springs HOA, David Bodeman, and all who contributed in making my dream a reality. We'll finally have a field for all of the kids to play safely on without having to worry about cars and the hard streets! It has been a long process from the concept to approval and implementation, but I hope you find it will be worth it for all of the residents. This is what can happen when we all work together to achieve a common goal! We had a parks cleanup day and many volunteers turned out to prepare the open space for the improvements. Thank you to all who participated in improving your parks! I am planning a Parks meeting in January, please check the Sendero Springs website for the day, time and place. Some ideas include improving the cave areas, installing informative signs about the caves, creating more walking trails and possibly creating a mountain bike loop in the green belt area! For those of you interested in becoming more involved with your parks, please send me an email through the neighborhood website and attend the Parks meeting in January. You have the right to . . . • A responsive and competent community association. • Honest, fair, and respectful treatment by community leaders and managers. • Attend meetings, serve on committees, and run for election. • Access appropriate association records. • Prudent financial management of fees and other assessments. • Live in a community where the property is maintained according to established standards. • Fair treatment regarding financial and other association obligations, including the opportunity to discuss options before the association takes legal action, and the right to appeal decisions. • Receive all rules and regulations governing the community association—if not prior to purchase and settlement, then upon joining the community. You also have the responsibility to . . . • Maintain your property according to established standards. • Treat association leaders with honesty and respect. • Read and comply with rules and regulations of the community and ensure that your tenants and guests do too. • Vote in community elections and on other issues. • Pay association assessments and charges on time. • Contact association leaders or managers, if necessary, to discuss financial obligations. • Request reconsideration of material decisions that personally affect you. • Provide your current contact information to the association so you receive all information from the community. www.senderosprings.org Official Newsletter of the Sendero Springs Homeowners Association www.senderosprings.org Common Sense Safety Tips First Quarter 2010 Please Pick Up After Your Pet Generally speaking, vandals and criminals prefer the path that offers the least risk and the most opportunity. Therefore, here are some simple steps you can take to prevent you and your property from becoming the targets of choice by those who would steal or harm your property. Some homeowners mistakenly believe these standards restrict their freedom of individual expression; actually they provide a framework within which each homeowner can express individual tastes and preferences. The standards have been carefully developed to reflect a balance between individual rights and the good of the entire association—that is, property values. Ok, but why do we need processes and guidelines to maintain architectural standards? Perhaps most important, we need a basis for treating all homeowners fairly and reasonably. Written guidelines allow you and the design review committee to work from the same criteria. Sometimes architectural requirements can be complex. The guidelines show you exactly what is required, and helps you design improvements that comply with the community’s standards. And then there’s the application and approval part of the process. The review committee members assure you they want the paper work to be as simple as possible for everyone. The guidelines take the guesswork out of your application and their decision making. In fact, they not only provide criteria for the current committee to make appropriate decisions, but for successive committee members to make consistent decisions in the future. Without the criteria in the guidelines, the application approved today may result in construction deemed unacceptable by new committee members upon completion. One last purpose of the guidelines is to clarify the association’s authority in this area. State statutes and our governing documents give the association a legal right to enact and enforce design review standards. The guidelines spell this out so everyone understands they must comply even if they don’t agree. Step 1: Use Coupons. Coupons can save you a significant amount of money during the year. You can find coupons for almost any product or store/restaurant in a multitude of locations such as the Sunday paper, printable on-line coupons, magazines, email coupons sent to you when you register with a manufacture or restaurant, coupon dispensers (instores), and coupon swap boxes in the library or workplace just to name a few places. You can definitely save well over $1,000 by using coupons on an everyday basis. Step 2: Go Green. You can save money and the environment at the same time by practicing “green” routines. Some examples are conserving energy or water, walking instead of driving, using reusable bags, and recycling cans. Step 3: Savings Account. If you don’t already have a savings account, you should open one. There are a variety of savings accounts with different interest rates and rules. Shop around to find a savings account which will offer you a high interest rate and also allow you to access the account without a hassle or fees. A savings account is a risk-free, easy method to earn money. You can directly deposit your paychecks to your savings account and then transfer the money you need to pay your bills to your checking account. By doing this, you will be more aware of the amount of money you are spending and earn interest in between bill payments. Step 4: Create a Budget. The main goal of a budget is to prevent you from overspending, so figure out a budget which works for you. Ideally a budget will help you to achieve your short and long-term financial goals. Step 5: Create Realistic and Concrete Savings Goals. The main reason people are unable to accomplish their goals is due to the fact that the goals the people created were unrealistic and/or intangible. When you are creating goals you should make sure to include specific numbers and time lines with measurable quantities. You should also have realistic expectations. Start out with achievable, short term goals which you can later turn into long-term goals.
