HOT AUGUST NIGHTS…
Preparing our hearts and souls
for the High Holidays
Celebrate your simcha...
Tuesday Evenings 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
August 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th
Please join me this month as we gather in the
informal setting of someone’s back yard, living room
or even poolside. We will have some wine, sparkling
cider, cheese and crackers and REFLECT!
Reflect on our lives…what have we accomplished…
what are our dreams…how can we make a mid-life
course correction? No question is off base, no topic
a no-no! All you need is an open heart, a desire to
search, and a desire to listen to your fellow Temple
Beth El family members. We will utilize the month
prior to the High Holidays. Guided by the “message
of return”, we will search together to renew and
refresh our lives. DON’T MISS IT!
Please contact me PERSONALLY for more information.
I will at that time share with you the homes and
addresses where we will be meeting at.
cantor@bethelallentown.org or
call 610-435-3521
Adult refreshments will be available…this is not a
“class”…it’s a get together to explore our feelings
about the concept of the High Holiday journey of
return…to our better selves and also to G-d.
Remember

We Are Family!
Shari Spark, Jewish Family Educator
What is Jewish Family Education at Temple Beth El?
Take the name ‘Jewish Family Education’ and you’ll learn
all about us:
Jewish – We’re doing and being Jewish together.
We’re exploring ways to have fun while bringing ourselves
closer to Judaism.
Family – Your own family and your Beth El family
are the most important support systems you have! When
we get together for programs it’s about strengthening your
own households and finding how deep your roots are within
your Temple community.
Thank you to
Evelyn Brown
Anita Hirsh
Miriam Pitkoff
Education – Informal education through exciting
programming helps your children experience being
Jewish without any pressure, and helps you bring Jewish
expression into your lives.
Lynn Rothman
Joseph Seger
Judy Sheftel
for volunteering and helping our Synagogue Office
prepare congregational mailings.
In short, let Jewish Family Education at Temple Beth
El be your extended Jewish Family! Take time to explore
our programs and handouts, watch for program notices and
come participate. We welcome your presence this coming
year and look forward to your being Jewish, growing as
Family, and redefining Education.

School Schmooze…
Sponsorships
By Alicia Zahn, Religious School Director
Our Religious School could not function without
the generosity of many people. We appreciate ALL
sponsorships, both large and small. The following
programs are available for sponsorships:
Summer is made for relaxing, recharging, and
remembering what its all for. As parents, we know
that it is all for our children. They are why we work
so hard. They are why we wake up early to pack
healthy lunches. They are why we rush home to read
bedtime stories. And summer seems the time when
we can kick back and remember to spend time with
the people we are doing all this for!
Ganim-Gr 2 Weekly Challah & Juice
Davening with Donuts
Shalshelet Dinner
Here at school, we know you are doing so much
for your children and we want to help you give them
the best Jewish education. I also spend the summer
relaxing (a little). I then use the time to recharge
by looking over all the articles about education and
Judaics that I didn’t have time to read during the
school year. I catch up with other directors to learn
what new ideas have been successful for them this
past year. I meet with teachers to find out which part
of the curriculum connected with their students and
which we need to rethink. And I participate in school
board meetings where we sit around a table to discuss
how to best accommodate families so that parents can
give their children the Jewish education they want for
them.
Midrasha Purim Carnival
Haunkah Gelt
Mensch of the Month Breakfast
Tu b’Shvat Fruit Platters
Hamantashen Baking Experience
Pesach Model Seder
Faculty Opening Breakfast
Faculty Closing Lunch
Professional Development Day
After relaxing and recharging, I use the school
vision statement to help me remember what we are
doing all this for. I welcome you to read the statement
below and contact me with your thoughts. It is only
through true reflection on our purpose that we can
truly succeed.
Please contact Alicia if you are would like to sponsor a
particular program or if you have a donation amount
that you would like matched up with a sponsorship.
THANK YOU
[Our school] strives to foster deeper understanding
and appreciation of how our rituals are rooted in Jewish
history and spirituality. [Our} school encourages our
students and their families to be active participants in
prayer and to integrate Jewish customs and traditions
into their daily lives. We strive to be an inclusive,
joyous and supportive learning environment in which
G-d, Torah, and community are the foundation of the
learning experience.
