During the past few years, we’ve all experienced
challenging times and learned to adapt to the “new
normal.” Having fewer resources creates a need
to focus on what’s really important. What’s most
important at Ronald McDonald House Charities of
Central Florida (RMHCCF) was never in question—
it’s all about the families we serve.
In 2012, our board and staff worked together on
a renewed commitment to strengthening our
organization. Events and initiatives were evaluated, the
calendar repositioned, and ideas were brainstormed
and strategized. All of this led us to create a new
business model with a focus on our ability to sustain
the high level of services we provide at our two Ronald
McDonald House® locations in Orlando. These efforts
will allow us to live out the heart of our mission and
serve more families in the most effective way possible.
As we rolled out new plans this past year, we couldn’t
help but reflect on how we got here. RMHCCF has
grown tremendously since opening our doors in
December 1996. Each year, more than 1,600 families
benefit from the comfort and care provided in our
Houses. The foundation of those Houses is YOU.
Everyone who has generously contributed their dollars,
time, and talents is a significant part of our story.
Read on to learn more about our accomplishments, as
well as where we’re headed, and know that we couldn’t
do it without you!

Comfort AND Care
We ask families to contribute $15 per
night, although the actual cost to house
a family for the night is $68. Many
of these families are under extreme
financial stress, and this year, over 70
percent of families who stayed with us
were unable to donate anything. Thanks
to a community of caring donors,
no family is ever turned away due to
inability to contribute.
PURPOSE
Our cornerstone program, the Ronald
McDonald House®, provides a home away
from home that offers comfort and care to
families with children receiving treatment at
local hospitals and medical facilities.
In 2012, our Houses experienced
record-high average occupancy rates—
over 92% for the year. With a clear
demand for our services and Orlando’s
emergence as a world-class pediatric
healthcare destination, we are looking
forward to future growth.
The Ronald McDonald House on the campus of
Florida Hospital for Children opened its doors in
December 1996.
With demands for our services increasing,
Ronald McDonald House Orlando expanded
to include a second location on the campus of
Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in May 2003.
Mr. O, our facility dog from our friends at Canine Companions for Independence.
He may have a cold nose, but he warms our families’ hearts!
Since 2009, RMHCCF has
operated a Family Gathering
Room within the Oncology
unit at Arnold Palmer Hospital
for Children. This room provides a respite for families from
the area who may not need to
stay at our Houses, but need a
place to rejuvenate and refresh.
It includes a full bath with
shower, snacks, computers, and
entertainment options.

RMHCCF is not funded by the McDonald’s
Corporation; however, we are deeply appreciative of
the support we receive at a local level. In addition
to serving on our volunteer board and committees
and providing valuable in-kind support, our local
McDonald’s owner/operators donate approximately
twenty percent of our operating revenue each year.
RMHCCF remains at heart a local, grassroots
organization. For the rest of our funding, we rely
on the generosity of individuals, companies, and
foundations in our community who support the
families we serve through a variety of ways.
Each and every one of these donors is an important
part of our story, helping keep families together when
they need it most.

The following financial overview of 2012 from an
independent audit includes unrestricted, temporarily
restricted and permanently restricted endowments as
well as in-kind contributions which are expensed out
the same year.
Seeking to be transparent in all we do,
RMHCCF has received the highest rating

The families we serve are changed for a lifetime by
their experience at Ronald McDonald House. In the
4th quarter of 2012, we established our Founder’s
Society to recognize donors who have given $25,000 or
more over our organization’s history. Their meaningful
gifts have certainly had an impact on our long-term
