At Italian Harvest, we’ve been importing traditional foods from
small farms and factories throughout Italy since 2000. Our
carefully selected products, made from organically cultivated
ingredients, reflect the variety of Italy’s 21 regions—from the
alpine, snow-clad areas of the north, to the sultry, sun-drenched
valleys of the south.
Most of our products are handmade by artisans in small
family-run factories that continue to use old-world techniques
and craftsmanship. Over the years, we have cultivated special
relationships with our suppliers–the multi-generational families
who take pride in their time-tested recipes and their artisanal
methods of producing fresh and flavorful food that is preservative
and additive-free.
Mangia bene. Vivi felice!

Colorful Pasta
The original master designer of this stunningly beautiful rainbow
array of pasta, Antonio Marella, has adopted traditional methods of
adding dehydrated vegetable dyes to his pasta, creating an artist’s
pallet of colors. This remarkable handmade pasta is made with

Pastificio Marella
The Marella family-run factory, located in the heart of Puglia, in Bari
province (the “heel” of the boot of Italy), has been operating since
1987. This artisanal factory uses dough made of locally grown durum
wheat. A careful selection ensures a high-quality product that is rich
with proteins and flavor. Whereas industrial pasta factories use a
Teflon-coated steel dye, Marella’s pasta is extruded through a bronze

pasta is then dried at a low temperature for three to four days,
yielding uniquely flavored pasta that expands greatly when cooked.

The Gentile family in Gragnano, near Naples, has been making pasta
since 1555. All of their shapes are bronze-dye extruded and allowed
to dry at a low temperature for three to four days before packaging.
Extruded pasta was first invented in the Neapolitan area in the 17th
century. Gentile’s classic shapes reflect typical Neapolitan tradition.

Le Veneziane
Gluten-Free Pasta
Molino di Ferro
Veneto is the corn capital of Italy, and the Molino di Ferro mill has been
operating in the Venetian countryside for centuries. Known mostly for
their polenta, Molino di Ferro has recently created “Le Veneziane,” a
line of pasta made of 100% corn flour. This easily digestible pasta, specially designed for those with gluten intolerance, has a wonderful flavor
and texture. Its rich yellow color comes from the natural carotenes in
corn. Molina di Ferro also produces delicious gluten-free cookies made
with cocoa, hazelnuts, coconut, and wild berries. See page 17.

Riso Carena
Riso Carena, a family-run farm in the Po River Valley in the heart
of Lombardia, has been cultivating and producing fine-quality
heirloom rice varieties for decades. Until the late 1950s, Angela
and Carlo Carena hired Mondine seasonal rice-picking women;
today they select and package the best legumes and grains from
other parts of Italy. Their rice grains cook up large and remain
intact, their farro is nutty and crunchy, and the bean varieties they
select are full of unique flavor.

Acetaia Ducale Estense Vinegars
Acetaia Ducale Estense is owned and operated by Count Andrea Czarnocki Lucheschi.
His estate, in the Veneto area, cultivates and processes aged wine vinegars using grapes
grown for the sole purpose of producing wine vinegar. The product is refined with
proprietary ancient stocks of acetobacteria that are added to the hardwood barrels
containing the ageing grape must. Acetaia Ducale uses a natural processing method
that requires no heat and historically is a precursor to balsamic vinegar of Modena. The
aged and reduced grape must used in the Acetaia Ducale line of red and white vinegars
gives them a smooth, sweet flavor that sets them apart from other wine vinegars.

Acetaia Pedroni Vinegars
Giuseppe Pedroni, family heir to the Pedroni balsamic vinegar farm and factory, has been
producing DOP and IGP Balsamic Vinegar Tradizionale since 1862. Acetaia Pedroni balsamic
vinegar is made by first pressing Lambrusco and Trebbiano grapes and then aging them
in ancient oak and chestnut barrels. The “Giuseppe” line is refined and aged for over 25
years. Giuseppe and his family are an integral part of the Consorzio Tutela Aceto Balsamico
di Modena, the certifying consortium of balsamic vinegar families and growers that occupy
a very small area in the vicinity of Modena. Each year the consorzio decides, through
well-organized tasting sessions, which 12, 25, or 100-year balsamics can be certified.

Gentilini Bakery
This renowned Roman bakery has a vast line of pastry and dry cookies,
all ideal as accompaniment for tea, coffee, or hot chocolate. Italian
Harvest imports their baked specialties, from the flavored lemon or
cocoa dry biscuits to the special panettone and pandoro holiday treats.
Oswego cookies were first made in Britain in the 1700s to accompany
tea made from a Native American plant grown along the east coast of
North America. Inspired by this original dry biscuit, Pietro Gentilini began
production of the Osvego cookies that we know today.

Calabrian Fig Specialties
An innovative line of fig products that takes inspiration from the more
traditional preparations of the large white figs grown in the Cosenza
area of Calabria. Sliced figs marinated in rum and Calabrian chestnut
honey are ideal on roasts, ice cream, or by themselves. Fig Nectar, a
jam made with zuccherini–Cosenza figs grown with little water–has
an intense sweet flavor, ideal as accompaniment to goat and sheep
cheeses, gorgonzola and mascarpone, or aged cheeses. The Caramelized Figs are cooked into a compote, using caramelized grape must
and fig jam, also ideal for use with soft cheese or meat.

Cioccolato Majani
Majani was the first chocolate maker to produce hard chocolate from the liquid drinks that were enjoyed
by European aristocracy and clergy through the late 1700s. Their original shop opened in the center of
Bologna in 1796, and is still in service today. Majani is known for its fine chocolate, as well as for the
signature FIAT cubes of chocolate and cream of hazelnuts and almonds that inaugurated the first Fiat car
of 1911. The tastefully designed and classically European paper wraps are prelude to the finest selection
of products, including dark and milk chocolate, hazelnuts and almonds, nougat, and gianduia, as well as
fruit candies.

About Us
Husband and wife team John Blount and Victoria Doggett, the founders of Italian Harvest,
are culinary adventurers. John was born and raised in Rome, and moved to the US when he
was 30. His mother is a sixth-generation Roman, and his father, American. During John’s early
years, his family traveled extensively throughout Italy, giving him a native’s understanding of
the food for which each region is famous.
In 1999 John and Victoria left their home in San Francisco to live in Italy and embark on the
first of many culinary journeys. During their travels, they discovered unique, authentic
specialties and decided to introduce them to the American market. John’s passion for his
native food and culture coincided with a strong belief that there would be a market for
high-quality, artisanal products in the United States.
In 2000 the artisanal concept was relatively new, and yet it defined John and Victoria’s mission
as they searched for natural, organically cultivated foods, meeting along the way artisans who
have been using the same techniques for generations.
As they sourced these specialties one by one, they formed relationships that have lasted
more than a decade with farmers and family-run businesses. With John’s native knowledge of
regional specialties and Victoria’s instinct for the American market, they have “harvested” a
remarkably authentic collection of foods that reflect the true heart of Italian culture.
Mangia bene, vivi felice, from all of us at Italian Harvest.
