L
ast month a few of you pointed out
an error I made in this article. I am
sorry for any confusion I caused, but
I am happy to say it is something
completely fixable. The Victorian Country
Christmas at the Puyallup Fairgrounds is
in December this year. You will see it listed
on your blue sheet for December 6th.
Please contact the office via phone or email
to reserve your spot for this wonderful trip!
As of the time I am writing this article
(which may change by the time I finish up
my travel green and
blue insert pages)
we have only 2
spots left on our
Victoria Christmas
Wonderland trip! Do
not delay in signing
up for this great trip!
You’ll notice that the number of trips we
are taking is starting to decrease. This
happens every year during the winter
months for a number of reasons…for
November and December it mainly has to
do with all of the holidays and there just is
not enough time in the month to go on any
more trips! However, I am still taking
suggestions. You’ll see for the month of
December we have a new trip, it is on the
4th and comes via a member who was told
about it last year on the Molbak’s trip.
Even though we are slowing down a bit,
please keep the suggestions coming!!!
As of the writing of this article, all trips in
November have space available.
TAKE A LOOK AT THIS MONTH’S
GREEN AND BLUE INSERTS FOR
MORE TRIP INFO!
Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving
holiday!

ne sound I hear in abundance around our
Center is laughter. Should we be surprised at
all by this? Sure, we expect babies to smile,
coo and laugh, children to giggle and grin, teenagers
to laugh boisterously, college kids and young adults to
hoot and holler, but adults? “Mature” adults laughing
out loud? Throwing their heads back and letting loose
with shakes of hilarity?
Just stop by sometime and listen to the
crafters, the painters, the poker players,
the exercisers. They are having such
fun, making friends, enjoying what they
want to do, and yes, laughing!
Laughing with each other. Laughing at
life’s challenges. Laughing at a joke,
even if they’ve heard it before.
department, sit down to play cards or a table game,
and you will hear it. Not constantly, but now and
then, seasoning the air and the mood—laughter! And
you might decide to join in—the more the merrier!
If you have never done it, make your reservation, step
up into our beautiful and comfy bus and laugh as you
roll down the highway to experience new and exciting
things with a group of enthusiastic new friends.
Knock, knock!
Who’s there?
Arthur.
Arthur who?
You can do this. Don’t sit at home.
Come to your Center--Laughter in
motion, life at its fullest, longevity in
action!
So this Thanksgiving I am thankful for
Arthur any leftovers? laughter and that we have a place to
come together to experience it, aren’t
you? I will close with as many corny Thanksgiving
jokes as my editor can fit in:
Walk the front hall and listen in on the ping pong
players, the cribbage players, the diabetes support
If April showers bring May flowers, what do May

BURN THE MORTGAGE UPDATE
Our mortgage balance is now ZERO! All of us together have done it! Just as we went to press, two large
donations, one for $2,207 and one for $3,496 came in, along with several $20, $25, and $50 donations, to
finish paying off the mortgage completely! The mortgage burning ceremony will be on Tuesday, November
12th at 2:30pm. (See our December issue for the names of last minute donors on the thank you page!) Our
organization is now completely debt-free and THAT is something to be THANKFUL for, indeed!

Lessons from Noah's Ark
Much of what we need to know, we can learn from Noah's Ark . . .

Don’t miss the boat
Remember that we are all in the same boat!
Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.
Stay fit. When you're 70 or 80 yrs old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
Build your future on high ground.
For safety's sake, travel in pairs.
Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
When you're stressed, float awhile.
Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.

THANK YOU!
Behind every successful event are many players who make it so. Kudos to our corporate

Discovery Memory Care, Home Instead Senior Care, Lodge Chiropractic, Prairie Springs
Assisted Living, and WeDo Fudge. Our wonderful Shipley Center volunteers came through with
their delicious baked goods.

Margaret Cox, Judy Priest, Patty Selaya, and Marilyn Zimmerman.
Additional prizes were provided by Shipley Center.
Many volunteers helped set up, demonstrate activities, entertain, serve, and

was born in Yakima, later moving to Bellevue,
where she graduated from Seattle’s Holy Names
High School. She attended Seattle U, and
married.
Theresa was a stay-at-home mom with her
five children; but, after a divorce, she took
several different office jobs in Bellevue,
including a real estate company.
Turns out, Toronto-born Stuart Nasmith,
after working some years in San Francisco,
was hired as an agent at that same real
estate office. And, from then on, life

OCTOBER BOARD MEETING NOTES
Joe Borden and Michael Smith will be attending a seminar in Port Angeles
regarding fundraising for specific tips and ideas to apply to our capital campaign
fundraising effort.
 Lou Foldoe reported that the bus was taken in for service to relieve a noise that
started late in September. The problems seems to be resolved. He also reported
that we are in the process of bringing on a new volunteer driver to add to our
current group of drivers.
 Janice Marble reported that the Oktoberfest was a great success, and that the
caterer and entertainment were secured for the Thanksgiving Luncheon, and
some things were still in the works for Christmas.
 Michael Smith reported that presentations were given regarding the new building
to the Senior Singles club by Ray Bentsen and to the Hospital Guild by Michelle
Rhodes. He also reported that the amplifier in the main room was repaired after
overheating at the Luau, and a ventilation fan was installed by Steve Solberg, Bob
Holt and Ray Bentsen to prevent this from happening in the future. He reminded
everyone that when using the amp to turn on the fan switch!

THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING
(Unknown Author)
‘TWAS THE NIGHT OF THANKSGIVING,
BUT I JUST COULDN'T SLEEP.
I TRIED COUNTING BACKWARDS;
I TRIED COUNTING SHEEP.
THE LEFTOVERS BECKONED . . .
THE DARK MEAT AND WHITE,
BUT I FOUGHT THE TEMPTATION
WITH ALL OF MY MIGHT.
TOSSING AND TURNING WITH ANTICIPATION,
THE THOUGHT OF A SNACK BECAME INFATUATION.
SO, I RACED TO THE KITCHEN, FLUNG OPEN THE DOOR,
AND GAZED AT THE FRIDGE, FULL OF GOODIES GALORE.
GOBBLED UP TURKEY AND BUTTERED POTATOES,
PICKLES AND CARROTS, BEANS AND TOMATOES.
I FELT MYSELF SWELLING, SO PLUMP AND SO ROUND,
'TIL ALL OF A SUDDEN, I ROSE OFF THE GROUND!
I CRASHED THROUGH THE CEILING, FLOATING INTO THE SKY,
WITH A MOUTHFUL OF PUDDING AND A HANDFUL OF PIE.
BUT, I MANAGED TO YELL AS I SOARED PAST THE TREES . . .
“HAPPY EATING TO ALL, PASS THE CRANBERRIES, PLEASE!”
