I am sure everyone has been busy this summer with seniors, weddings and more and you have put all you learned this past year through SCPA and WPPA to good use. Now it is time to start thinking about learning new techniques as fall approaches. I have been taking it easy this summer as I continue to recover from my December surgery. I have done a few seniors, families and babies, taking my time to work back into a full time schedule. I have certainly appreciated all of the help and support I have received not only from my family but also from my photographer family! I couldn’t have done this without all of you, and your patience with me as I have worked through some trying times has been appreciated. And even though you may not think it is true, I have also appreciated all of your reminders for things I need to get done – like this message! J Thanks Krystal for the reminders, and I am sorry you have had to remind me so many times. But now it is time to get things into full swing and start learning again. We have some great programs coming up this fall and I hope all of you remember to put these dates on your calendar. We will be starting off this fall on Monday, September 22 nd with Mary and Mark Bortz as they present their Character Portrait workshop. November 2nd, 3rd & 4th is the WPPA Fall Convention at the Osthoff Resort in Elkhart Lake and Monday, November 24 th we will welcome Fuzzy Duenkel to SCPA with his program Boudoir and Beyond. Put these on your calendar now, and in your schedule book, if you still use one, so you don’t miss anything. I know we have all been busy this summer and are looking forward to a little break this fall, but keep yourself going…..going to the great programs that are coming up. I know I always feel recharged after attending programs, and getting to spend time with friends! I’m looking forward to seeing all of you this fall! In its current crest, it’s a subtly sexy style that softly celebrates a woman’s curves as well as her confidence. Fuzzy Duenkel has been photographing boudoir sessions since the 1980s, and into its current evolution. He’ll share tips on how he photographs this genre. Lighting has always been Fuzzy’s favorite area of expertise, and that aspect will be the main focus in this fun and fascinating program. Fuzzy will discuss both simple and complex lighting arrangements and how they affect the success of the final images. This is NOT a seminar on how to do more sessions. Fuzzy will be the first to admit he doesn’t do many such sessions. But he can show you how to do them better. Note: This is an adult program with some nudity. Fuzzy asks that the atmosphere be serious, educational, and respectful. 2 South Central Photographers Association 5 MAY Meeting photos 6 Through the Lens / SEPTEMBER 2014 2 South Central Photographers Association 7 ALICIA JOHNSON Ever since Alicia Johnson was ten years old and was gifted her first Polaroid camera by her parents, she has lived life "through the lens". She was enamored by light and capturing moments in time, even way back then. Even at an early age she would stare at photographs taken by professional photographers to determine how they were lit and how the image was created. Her intention was always to be an artist. During those years she took every opportunity to photograph friends and family using her father’s Nikon camera. It wasn't until her first child was born 20 years ago, when her husband purchased her first professional film camera for her, a medium format Mamiya 645 that her vision, the medium and the results married together seamlessly. She had found her heaven! Since those early days in her career, photography has changed considerably. With more and more things going digital, Alicia had to move with the times. She traded in her medium format film camera and went back to her Canon roots by purchasing her first professional digital camera. Having to relearn her camera and become photoshop savvy. Before no time she had found a new passion in photoshop, feeling like she had more control of the images that she was creating. It was now time to start trying new and creative things. She worked out of her home steadily building her business for 16 years until she took the plunge and opened her first studio in 2010. By this time she had formed a loyal client base and knew that the next step for her would be to open her own studio. As her children grew, so did her business. So in January 2013 Alicia’s Photography relocated to a booming central downtown location and now with four members on staff, she hasn’t looked back! 20 years in the photography business and still going strong! Her studio photographs newborns, children, seniors, and families. She recently brought photographer Samantha Jensen onboard for engagement and wedding photography. This now makes her studio a full circle photography studio. From birth to marriage. It’s a busy life but she loves it and manages to learn something new every day. She looks forward to the new and inventive things that the industry will bring and more importantly looks forward to learning, growing, creating and sharing what she has learned over the years. http://www.alicias.com 8 Through the Lens / SEPTEMBER 2014 Meeting The South Central Photographer’s Association Presents: Mark and Mary bortz Agenda Character Portraits Monday, September 22, 2014 9:00am Rex’s Innkeeper — Waunakee, WI Program Begins Directions to Rex’s Innkeeper: From Milwaukee: I-94 West, take the WI-19 Exit, Exit 131 towards Waunakee/Sun Prairie; Turn left onto WI-19 West (~6.2 miles); Turn slight right onto North Century Avenue/WI 113; 12:00pm Lunch Rex’s is on the left. 1:00pm SCPA General Meeting From Green Bay/Fox Cities: Hwy 41 South to Oshkosh; Hwy 26 South to Hwy151 South to WI-19/Windsor St. exit, Exit 102; Turn right onto Windsor St./WI-19W; continue to follow WI-19 for 11.7 miles; Turn slight right onto North Century Avenue/WI-113; Rex’s is on the left. 1:30pm Program continues 3:30pm 3:30pm ICE 301 North Century Avenue, Waunakee, WI 53597-1135 Visit: www.RexsInnkeeper.com or call (608) 849-5011 Mark and Mary Bortz Monday, September 22, 2014 @ Rex’s Innkeeper, Waunakee, WI Registration Deadline is September 17, 2014 Pre-Registration SCPA Member Non Member $45.00 $75.00 At-the-Door # Attending $55.00 $85.00 ________ ________ TOTAL _________ _________ Total Amount Enclosed: $_________ Name E-mail Address Studio Do you want a Vegetarian Meal?
