Langford News Fetcher September 13, 2013 Volume 4, Issue 4 www.richland2.org/schools/le Principal’s Thoughts… Calendar We want to thank all of our families who came out to Open House on Tuesday night. It was exciting to see such a large group of parents in support of our school. It sends a positive message to the teachers but more importantly it sends a positive message to our children. It lets our children know that we are all working together, as partners to ensure that they are successful. We hope that everyone enjoyed their experience at Langford and have a better understanding of how we engage our students each and every day. As the state of South Carolina transitions to Common Core State Standards (CCSS) here are a few wonderful resources to help parents and families with information on Common Core: (this is information is in English and Spanish) www.achievethecore.org, www.scfriendlystandards.org, Sep 25 Sep 24 Sep 26 Fall Pictures PTO Fundraiser Money Due Half Day 11:30 Dismissal - Parent Conferences Congratulations to our best EFFORT Winners! Last week I saw a special news report about a stranger that bought a family’s dinner. This family had a child with special needs and the stranger paid for the family’s meal. This was done completely anonymous, which makes the deed even more special. What a great example of empathy and caring towards others. Caring Note We are so excited the school store will open on September 18th! The store will be open the 1st & 3rd Wed. of each month during lunch. we have lots of cool, fun items in the store that our students will love! Allowing our children to help us help others ensures they are taught the importance of caring about and our community becoming compassionate caring, people. Besides, helping others, it just plain makes us feel good inside – and makes us better people and citizens! New Teachers My name is Sean Birmingham. I am a recent graduate from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY, and I am so excited to be starting my first year of teaching here at Richland School District II. I am the Autism II teacher at Langford Elementary and I am looking forward to the enriching experiences I plan to share with my students this coming school year. Throughout my experiences leading up to this teaching position, I have found my favorite aspect of teaching is the reciprocal process of learning, not just for my students, but the learning experience I undergo as a teacher each day. As a new resident to South Carolina, I am ecstatic to be spending my winter months here, rather than having to endure the relentless and infamous winter of my hometown in Syracuse. I love the Columbia area so far, and I anticipate growing not just as a teacher in this coming year, but as an individual as well. My name is Leigh Anne Zavertnik. I was born in Columbia, South Carolina. I moved to Virginia where I attended middle school through college. I returned to South Carolina to get my Masters in Elementary Education from the University of South Carolina. I love college football! My two teams are the Virginia Tech Hokies and the USC Gamecocks. I am very excited to be at such a wonderful school with such amazing people. I am looking forward to a great year! :) September 16 - September 20 Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Chicken Nuggets Lasagna Chicken Pasta Casserole Beef Soft Tacos Cheese Pizza Sloppy Joe Corn Dog Cheeseburger Fish Nuggets Hot Ham & Turkey Sandwich Minnie Mouse Salad Chef Salad Crispy Chicken Salad Chef Salad Peppi Salad PB&J Ham & Cheese Sandwich PB&J Ham & Cheese Sandwich PB&J Green Beans Carolinas Slaw Yams Marinated Veggies Tator Tots Corn on the Cob Sweet Peas Baked Beans Side Salad w/ Dressing Collards Fresh Grapes Fresh Orange Fresh Apple Fresh Strawberries Fresh Banana Pineapple Jicama Applesauce Fruit cocktail Diced Pears Apple Slices 100% Fruit Juice or 100% Fruit Juice or 100% Fruit Juice or 100% Fruit Juice or 100% Fruit Juice or Milk Milk Milk Milk Milk
