Happy Birthday Oak Grove Elementary!
As some of you are aware, our school
turns 10 years old at the end of this
school year. Some of the first students
of OGE have already graduated from
high school! Some former OGE students
attend the north campus, and some have
moved away, or attend other schools in
the FM community. To commemorate
our 10th birthday, Oak Grove Elementary
is hosting an all-school reunion open house for all former students whose classes are in 5th grade or older, and have attended the OGE. We have invited them all back to celebrate this
place in a Reunion Open House to be held on Saturday, May
16th, and we need your help. If you are able to bring in some
goodies for this event, we would love for volunteers from
grades K-2 to bring in cookies, bars, or pie, and from grades
3-5 to bring in birthday treats of birthday cake, cupcakes, etc.
There will be a sign up at the front desk, so we have an idea of
how many goodies to expect. Please bring your food items to
school on Friday, May 15th. Thank you for your help with this
Reunion Open House celebrating our school!
Fun Facts from the Oak Grove Elementary Kitchen
Did you know….
We use more frozen vegetables than canned to reduce the
amount of sodium in out school lunches.
The Mission of Oak Grove Lutheran School is to express God’s love by nurturing students for
academic achievement, lifelong Christian commitment and loving service throughout the world.

Penny Wars at Oak Grove Elementary Campus Next Week!!
Let your light shine all over Guatemala! Help the high school mission trip students raise funds to
purchase a solar panel for Maria de Luz (which literally means Maria of Light) orphanage for
infants this summer when they travel there. The week of May 4 - 8, each classroom will try to
collect as much spare change as possible. The students hope to raise the last $1000 on this
project in order to be able to buy the solar panel (they
have already raised $7500!). Each classroom will be collecting their spare change, and if we meet the goal as a
school, the ENTIRE SCHOOL (PS - Grade 5) will celebrate
with the high school students serving a pizza and Italian
soda party sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
WOW!!! Our celebration is planned for May 15th in hopes
of reaching this goal. Can you help us be the hands, feet,
and light of Christ? Join us as a Grover Community in being true to our mission statement of being committed to
loving service throughout the world!
Looking ahead…
4-6th grade track meet May 13th at Concordia.
The next OGPO meeting will be May 14th at 6:30 in the Library. We will be discussing the
Carnival and the 2015-16 Event Schedule.

Counselor’s Corner ~ What Motivation?! It’s Almost SUMMER!
We all have to admit it, now that the warmer weather is finally here, it is tougher and tougher to motivate our
kiddos to get their homework done afterschool. There are so many other things they would rather be doing
outside! In order for you to survive the last month of school, here are some tips that may help keep the
month of May a little more bearable…
Keep encouraging your child to end the school year on a positive note! Praise them for all
their hard work this year and celebrate the little successes during the week. An encouraging
note in their backpack or locker can work wonders!
Stay consistent. Even though the weather is getting nicer and its staying daylight longer, try to
keep the regular routine going and most importantly try to keep bedtime at a decent
hour. Well-rested kids are going to be more successful in school!
Take time to go outside. Set a goal to get homework done early so that they can still spend
time outside. Try going for a walk together or even having a picnic dinner outside!
Happy May Day Everyone!
