2 MB 17th Feb 2016 MARKET REPORT 16th FEBRUARY 2016
More than just a market
MARKET NEWS
Manager’s Mutterings
A cold start today the temperature at below zero, but the market
soon warmed up with a good entry of 464 cattle and that is
without Lowesby Farms 80 heifers, which should be with us on
the first Tuesday in March and will be advertised fully.
Ben is used to the cold start having just returned from a skiing
trip in the Alps, and resumed the selling of the store cattle.
Prices especially for the reared calves just off the clock with 8/10
month old continental steers from Edward Player, Whatton
nudging towards the £1,000 mark.
Strong stores still a good trade but not in the same league as the
younger stock.
Do not forget our catalogued sale 1st March for store cattle,
entries close 25th February.
It was good to be back at the helm in the prime cattle with 137
forward with rows of quality cattle, and a packed ringside ensured
a good trade prevailed again, far better than most deadweight
outlets.
Tom reports a better than expected fat trade with some good
hoggs coming off roots to enjoy the trade. Stores still very much
in demand so make the most of this trade while it is here.
Finally after our recent break in at the Tavern we have beefed up
security and have secured Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton’s services
during last weekend in Dublin.

Nice to return from holiday to see plenty of good quality stock on show and a packed ring in front of me, it ensured a good
trade almost throughout the whole section. In particular several bunches of heifers fetched superb prices with buyers
looking for good breeding rather than the meat trade. Top price overall goes to Mr Cornwell who sold a lovely pen of 19/23
month old Limousin/Simmental steers to £1,090.
