Another useful September entry generally mirrored last week’s trade with the differential in price between the best and the rest
becoming more noticeable. Any smart shaped animals with condition still commanding the premium price levels while those
animals not having the benefit of a supplemental feed more difficult to place. A pair of cracking 28 month Blonde and Angus steers
the property of MJ Freegard of Averton Gifford achieved the top price on the day of £1250, other continental steers to £1190
for a group of three 23 month Limousins from David Colwill of North Tamerton who also presented Blondes at £1170, 20
month Charolais’s at £1065 (x2) and similar aged heifers at £1015 (x2) and 26 month Limousin females at £1030 (x2). An entry
of seventeen quality steers from David & Wendy Holland of Dolton saw 19 to 22 month Limousins to £1150, with others to
£1070. 17 month Charolais’s to £1130 (x4), 26 and 17 month British Blues to £1060 and £1030 respectively. Other prices worthy
of note include 19 month South Devon bullocks to £1170 for Mr & Mrs
Gostling of Hittisleigh, others to £1160 for David & Mary Stark of
Denbury who also had a 27 month Hereford that realised £1200. 28
month Charolais steers to £1170 for MJ Freegard and 17 month
Limousins with good muscle development to £1175 for Alan Cook of
Ivybridge who also penned for sale a very smart 19 month Limousin heifer
that rose to £1275. 17 and 15 month Angus steers to £1050 (x2) and
£1035 (x3) for Peter Hendy of Staddiscombe, Plymouth. 25 month
Friesians to £910 from David Colwill. Top heifers already mentioned
previously, with others to £1095 for South Devons at 24 months, 15 to
18 month heifers generally in the £680 to £800 range. Single suckled cow
and calf outfits to £1400 for Wyndham Luxton of Moretonhampstead.
90 SUCKLED CALVES & STIRKS – 11.30AM

A tremendous entry of quality youngstock saw the very best rise to £860 for a well-muscled Limousin steer from Steve Barkwill
from Tavistock, Angus steer calves off the same farm sold to £710 whilst Steve’s Simmental and Angus bred heifers saw £585.
An eye catching pair of Charolais steers from Bernie Serpell, Plympton fetched £815 a piece whilst a cracking bunch of five steers
of the same breed were knocked down at £775 for Bruce Ellett of Exmouth. A lorry load of smart calves from James Williams
up from Meavey topped at £750 for a pen of nine South Devon steer stirks also a group of six heifers with the same remarks
from James looked as dear as anything on the day selling for £685 each. More top notch Charolais’ from Gordon Mortimore of
Chagford made £745 and £575 for steers and heifers respectively whilst Robert Merchant of Moretonhampstead saw his best, a
bunch of four South Devon steers reach £720, (as did Peter Preston from Christow with a pair). The latter also saw £620 a head
for a trio of well grown South Devon females.

of Newton Abbot. Young Limousin heifers to £300. British Blue heifers to £280 for Keith & Jane Hulbert of Honiton with others
to £278 for Ian & Caroline Tapp of Tiverton. Young Hereford heifers were the trade of the day and topped at £248 & £245 for
Derek Burrough of Yarcombe with others to £235 for John Ekers. Friesaisn topped at £120 for a smart British Friesain from Ian
Pincombe of Crediton. Best young Holsteins to £58 for David Searle of Crediton. A Shorthorn bull sold well at £142 for Roy
Collins of Honiton. Montbeliarde bulls to £135 for Richard & Rosie Cheriton of Crediton and £130 for Andrew & Rose Retter.

1210 STORE LAMBS
Another nice number forward met keen competition throughout. Lambs topped at £73 from Neil Hardy of Crediton, £71.50
was attained for Graham Dicker of Dunsford, JR Bament of Crediton reached £71, whilst both Will Hunt of Honiton and Roger
Jewell of Wembury topped at £70. A cracking run of Suffolk crosses from Edward Ellis of Dunchideock topped at £69, R & J Legg
& Son, Bridport attained £68 whilst a smart pen of Charollais crosses from Helen Pearse of Bickington achieved the same figure.
Pen after pen of lean but framey sorts pushing past the £65 mark, with barely a lamb dipping below £50. Overall, just over 1200
store lambs averaged £60, £3 up on the week.
27 GRAZING EWES
A smaller show of grazers topped at £65 for Will Hunt of Honiton with others attaining £50, whilst M Crowson of Slapton hit
£56.
61 BREEDING SHEEP
Shearling ewes from John Tucket of Ashburton hit £82, whilst 4T & 6T ewes from the same vendor reached £73. A small entry
of Rams saw RH & FP Harvey of Harbertonford top at £240, while pure Lleyn Shearling rams from Francis Brewer of Exeter saw
the best reach £190.
ANNUAL SALE OF 79 PEDIGREE ZWARTBLES SHEEP
A cracking show of Zwartables sheep met a large yet cautious crowd of buyers. That said, trade remained good whereby some
noteworthy prices were achieved. Shearling Rams from DWR Pearse of South Brent topped at 420gns selling to Susan Jozsa of
Aish, whilst Mary Julia Cornish of Buckfastleigh hit 300gns bought by WH Ley & Sons of Sutcombe. A nice show of Ram Lambs
topped at 220gns on two occasions firstly from Mrs J Russel of Launceston and secondly from Miles Northmore of Plymouth.
Ewes were keenly sort after, topping at 550gns for a shearling ewe from GB Renfree of Liskeard. A cracking run of ewe lambs
forward topped at 380gns from Ms J Holman of Tiverton, with the majority selling between 120 and 180gns.

Milkers fly to £1750 at Exeter!
Another massive entry of 220 head for our monthly Dairy Sale at Exeter saw a cracking trade for the strong entry of milkers
forward which topped at £1750 for a super third calver “Janke Twist Plum” sired by Cogent Twist from Keith & Jane Hulbert of
Honiton who sold other cows to £1600, £1550 twice, £1500 & £1480 with their consignment of 12 averaging at an impressive
£1520! A non-pedigree Ayrshire heifer from Gordon Davis of Tiverton sold exceptionally well at £1700 whilst her heifer calf
sold at £240! The same vendor sold a British Frisian heifer at £1600 and other heifers to £1550, £1500, Pedigree Ayrshire third
calver at £1380 and a Jersey cross heifer at £1100. Other smart heifers sold to £1600 for Martin Webber of Drewsteignton and
£1580 for Jim Palfrey & Sons of Dartmouth. Other Ayrshire Heifers to £1250 for David & Sherrie Turner of Torrington. Swedish
Red x heifers to £1200 for Ken & Cathie Cottey of Whimple. A consignment of grazing type crossbred cows due in the spring
sold to a better than expected trade topping at £780 with several others between £700-£750 for Joe Delves of East Sussex. The
dispersal of 117 Youngstock from Warwickshire College saw their In Calf Heifers sell to a strong trade topping at £1180 with
others to £1150 x2, £1120 & £1100. Bulling heifers sold to a steady trade and topped at £680 with several other groups between
£550 and £600. Yearlings sold between £450-£500. Three Holstein Friesian heifer calves sold well at £240 apiece for Gordon
Davis.

57 CULL SOWS
Another wonderful entry of sows saw three buyers competing well taking the best to £200 for the best of a nice run from
Richard & Vicky Gibbins of Poltimore. Not far behind was Andrew Freemantle of Clyst Honiton at £174 & £170. Crealy Farms
of Exeter sold another excellent consignment of medium weight sows to a top of £140 whilst Timmy & Rupert Stockwell of
Kingsbridge saw their best of six at £165. All in all a really good trade for an average & lighter weight entry of sows.
141 PRIME & STORE PIGS
An excellent entry of prime pigs saw another improvement in the trade with the best hitting £114 (x5) for Richard Knox of
Whiddon Down and also the best of a smart run from John Chadwick again at £114. Kenniford Farm reached £113 whilst the
best of an entry of outstanding run from Richard Gibbins to £110 (x5) and £108 (x8) going to buyers from Bristol and Saltash.
Messrs Turner of Coombe Martin enjoyed a good trade at £100 for ten classy (90kg) Pietrain prime pigs whilst a worthy mention
has to be given to Messrs Forward of Tiverton for their pen of five lightweight traditional Gloucester Old Spots reaching £80
going to their new home in South Devon. Martin Hodges of Honiton topped the entry of store pigs at £59 going to a buyer in
South East Cornwall whilst a more selective trade was seen for the young slip pigs with Graham Ward of Parsonage topping at
£20.
