It is my great honor to invite you to the 30th CACCI Conference scheduled to take place on November
23-25, 2016 in Taipei, Taiwan.
Our gathering this year is doubly significant as it coincides with the 50 th Anniversary of our
Confederation. As many of you know, CACCI was established in 1966 as a platform for businessmen in
the region to “work toward forging economic ties and cooperation among Asian countries, with the
view to accelerating their economic development and raising the living standards of their people.”
Over the 50 years that have passed since its founding, CACCI has emerged as one of the biggest and
most influential regional business organizations in Asia-Pacific. And over that same period, Asia has
increasingly become a dominant force in the global economy and is today considered the world's most
dynamic region.
I therefore hope you would join us in Taipei for our Conference in November this year, not only to help
us celebrate 50 years of partnership among our members, but also to exchange views on how Asia can
play a much bigger role in the world economy, and what we – as a regional organization – can do to
help the region achieve this objective.
I would like to count on your continued strong support in our efforts to further build up the foundation
that CACCI has set in place over the past 50 years to achieve greater economic interaction and the
strengthening of ties between business communities in our member countries.

We are delighted to invite you to join us in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Confederation of
Asia-Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) during the 30th CACCI Conference to be held
on November 23-25 this year in Taipei, Taiwan, the Republic of China.
Both the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association (CIECA) and the Chinese National
Association of Industry and Commerce, Taiwan (CNAIC) share a common vision and mission with all
the primary member chambers of CACCI: For the private sector to exert our influence in increasing
trade, investment and tourism around the world and provide timely advice to national governments
about proper measures that can promote economic growth.
We had the distinct pleasure of hosting CACCI's 40th Anniversary and 21st Conference in Taipei in 2006
and we are grateful for your continued confidence in us by once again choosing our two organizations
as your hosts in celebrating another important and significant milestone of CACCI. We will cooperate
closely with the CACCI Secretariat in ensuring that our conference this year will be productive and
meaningful and that your stay in Taipei will be both comfortable and memorable.
Not all private sector organizations reach the half century mark. The reason that CACCI has claimed
such honor is due to the foresight of its leaders in anticipating future trends; forestalling, evading
or mitigating new risks and seizing fresh opportunities. At this year's Conference, a meeting of the
leaders of all CACCI Primary Members will be convened, primarily to review the accomplishments of
the Confederation over the 50 years since its founding; revisit its vision and mission as well as its goals
and objectives in light of the current conditions and recent developments in the regional and global
market environment; and prepare a road-map of its future direction. Your participation in this event
will help guarantee that CACCI remains at the forefront of the economic development of the AsiaPacific region in the next half century.
The American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson remarked: “An institution is the lengthened shadow of one
man.” As a time-honored institution, CACCI is the lengthened shadow of all CACCI members who have
dedicated their time and talents to ensure that regional economic prosperity continues and that our
posterity will stand on our shoulders, further build up on our achievements, and carry forward our
mission.
Five decades ago, CACCI was officially inaugurated in Taipei, which eventually became home to its
permanent secretariat. The forthcoming 50th Anniversary will be an auspicious occasion for family
reunion of all CACCI members. We thank you for your commitment to CACCI over the years and look
forward to welcoming you again this November in our home country.

Over the past 50 years, global economic realities have undergone a sea
change. Economic miracles by successive Asian countries – starting with
Japan and continuing with a host of others at regular intervals – have
enabled Asia to re-emerge as a dominant force in the global economy,
growing bigger and richer. There is a growing consensus around the world
that the center of gravity of the global economy is shifting towards Asia and
that this trend is most likely to continue in the decades to come. The IMF
considers Asia the “world’s most dynamic region”, noting that it accounts
for 40 percent of the world economy and will deliver nearly two-thirds of
global growth over the next four years.
The 30th CACCI Conference this year, which also marks the 50th Anniversary
of the Confederation since its founding in 1966, will address the following
questions: How can Asia play a much bigger role in shaping the global
economy in the 21st century than it did in the latter half of the 20th century?
What challenges would Asian countries – individually and collectively – face
in playing such a role and how will they meet these challenges? How should
Asia – which in the past was heavily dependent on exports for its growth –
nurture its new “second engine of growth”, which is domestic demand, in
order to sustain its strong performance?

Plenary Session 1:
Gaining Traction from Regional Economic Integration (Grand Ballroom
I, 5F)
Economic integration – which aims mainly to accelerate economic growth,
enhance trade development in the region, and allow the freer movement
of goods, services, skilled labor, and capital - is evolving rapidly in the Asian
region. Business-led Asian economic integration is now being complemented
by a growing web of regional and bilateral free trade agreements within the
region.
Economic integration could potentially produce opportunities to Asian
countries. However, it could also generate challenges, namely higher costs
related to implementing economic integration across such economically and
culturally diverse countries.
This session aims to identify the opportunities and challenges surrounding
the impending economic integration in Asia. Invited speakers will be
requested to address the following questions: How deep is Asian economic
integration today and how much further might it go? How does the
deepening of regional economic links interplay with globalization? What
factors will bear on the evolution of global and regional patterns of trade
in the coming years? What are the implications for individual economies of
being part of, or not being part of, regional trading agreements?

Plenary Session 2:
Promoting SME Development for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth
(Grand Ballroom I, 5F)
SMEs are key economic agents that support large segments of the
population and the economy. These firms typically account for more than
90% of all firms outside the agriculture sector, constitute a major source of
employment, and generate significant domestic and export earnings. The
effect that they have on people and wealth generation stems from their
capacity to close productivity gaps, which requires them to incorporate
technology, innovations and knowledge into products and to foster
management improvements.
Globalization and trade liberalization have ushered in new opportunities
as well as challenges for SMEs. Presently, only a small part of the SME
sector is able to identify and exploit these opportunities and deal with the
challenges. Moreover, SMEs, due to their size, are particularly constrained by
limited access to finance; non-competitive real exchange rates; cumbersome
bureaucratic procedures in setting up, operating and growing a business;
poor state of infrastructure; and lack of effective institutional structures.

Osamu Shinobe
President & CEO, ANA
Osamu Shinobe has been President and CEO of ANA since April 1st, 2013. An ANA veteran of over 35 years,
as CEO of ANA, Shinobe is responsible for all areas of passenger and cargo air transportation businesses.
Shinobe graduated from Waseda University, and began his career at ANA as an engineer at maintenance
headquarters in 1976. By 1993, he had become the head of the maintenance division’s Management
Office Planning & Coordination department, marking the start of a long tenure holding a number of senior
leadership positions. These include Senior Manager of Corporate Planning from ’95 to ’98, Executive Officer
and Deputy General Manager of Sales Promotion in 2004 and Head of Corporate Planning in 2007, where he
simultaneously served as Leader of the Boeing 787 Implementation Project.
In 2012, Shinobe was appointed to the board of directors, and following the shift to a Holdings Company
structure in 2013, Shinobe was appointed to President and CEO of Al Nippon Airways Co., Ltd. Shinobe
brings with him to the CEO position, the vast depth of experience in leadership during times of milestone
transitions, including the Boeing 787 Implementation Project and expanding international network as a
pillar of ANA’s growth strategy.
Tain-Jy Chen
Minister

Dr. Tain-Jy Chen is Minister of National Development Council (NDC), Taiwan.
As an economist, Dr. Chen has been holding several positions in the academic and research circles. His
previous career highlights include Assistant Professor at Dept. of Economics, University of Mississippi and
Drexel University, U.S.A.; Research Fellow, Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research; Professor, Dept.
of Economics, National Taiwan University (NTU), President of Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research
and Minister, Council for Economic Planning and Development, Executive Yuan, Taiwan.
Dr. Chen graduated from NTU with a bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering in 1975, and obtained his
Ph.D. in Economics from The Pennsylvania State University, U.S.A. in 1983.

Selima Ahmad
President and Founder
Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BWCCI)
Ms. Selima Ahmad is President and Founder of Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(BWCCI) and Vice Chairperson of Nitol-Niloy Group.
With her deep understanding of business, Ms. Ahmad has focused on developing entrepreneurial talent,
organizing financial and marketing resources to enable women get over hurdles. She founded BWCCI in
2001 to empower women into businesses and developed more than 7,000 women entrepreneurs.
Ms. Ahmad has been conferred with many Awards in recognition of her accomplishments, including The
International Alliance for Women (TIAW) World of Difference Award 2010, Priyadarshini Award 2012, Islamic
Development Bank Prize 2012, Jeane J. Kirkpatrick Award 2013, Oslo Business for Peace Award 2014 and the
“2014-2015 TIAW World of Difference Lifetime Achievement Award.”
She obtained her graduation and Masters in Business Management from University of Dhaka and did many
short courses from USA, Japan, Denmark and Canada.
Mukta Nandini Jain
Managing Director, OPJK
Chairperson, CACCI Women Entrepreneurs Council
Ms. Mukta Nandini Jain is the Managing Director of OPJK, which is one of India’s leading paper merchants.
Situated in New Delhi, India, the company supplies a variety of writing, printing and industrial grades of
paper and board to a diversified base of end consumers such as printing presses, publishers and packaging
companies. The company - a family-run enterprise - traces its roots back over 100 years and has firmly
established itself as a trusted partner to its clients and suppliers.
Mrs. Jain has an immense interest in arts and crafts. She is associated with various non-governmental
organizations for the under-privileged children. Her main interest and concern is to promote Indian art and
culture.
Ms. Jain is the current Chairperson of the CACCI Women Entrepreneurs Council.

Mr. Robert Chen is the Senior Manager of Taiwan Telematics Industry Association, TTIA.
Before joining TTIA, Mr. Chen was the Senior Project Manager of TrendMicro Inc., the Senior Planner of
Institute for Information Industry, the Assistant Vice President of BeXcom and the Consultant at Accenture.
Mr. Chen obtained his Master Degree of Business Administration from George Washington University, and
his Executive Mater Degree of Business Administration from National Chengchi University of Taiwan.
Mr. Chen possesses the Certificate of Project Management Professional of the Project Management Institute
(PMI).
Martin Frick
Managing Director
Asia Pacific, Temenos
Martin Frick is Managing Director, Asia Pacific, at Temenos. Prior to joining the company, Martin was
Managing Director of Asia Pacific for Avaloq. He has over 20 years’ relevant experience in banking and
banking technology, including working as a Senior Executive of Raiffeisen Bank in Switzerland, as well as

Dr. Wei Fang is a Professor and former chairman in the Department of Bio-Industrial Mechatronics
Engineering, National Taiwan University. He is also the director of the Center of excellence for Controlled
Environment Agriculture (CCEA). He is the co-author of 16 text books, translated three books and wrote 1
book related to Plant Factory in 2011 to 2013. He was one of the international consultants for the Japanese
Plant Factory Association (JPFA) and the chief consultant of Chung-Hwa Plant Factory Association (CHPFA) of
Taiwan.
Dr. Fang was frequently invited to lecture and present his researches around the world. He is the inventor
of 52 approved patents applied in Taiwan, China, Singapore and US. He also served as scientific committee

Dr. Liang-Chou Hsia is President of Yu Chou Friendly Agriculture Research Institute. Concurrently, he is

Dr. Hsia has years of experience in animal science, and secured numerous patents in related files, such as

Home Care Products Pvt. Ltd., and also gained substantial share of cleaning products market in India. He
later sold the brands to Henkel of Germany.
Mr. Modi started the first Indian Network Marketing Company, Modicare, in 1996, and in 2004 created
Colorbar Cosmetics. He is also the brain behind India's first of its kind 24-hour convenience store - Twenty
Four Seven Retail Stores launched in 2005.
Mr. Modi established the Modicare Foundation in 1996, aiming to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in India. It
won the President’s Award for its work in gender related issues, and is also working with children to educate

Dr. Shrestha’s international career spans over some forty years in multiple countries and institutions
including UNESCAP in Bangkok, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, and currently in Singapore.
Dr. Shrestha is Research Associate at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies – Yusof Ishak Institute, and
concurrently an Adjunct Faculty in Economics Department, National University of Singapore lecturing on the
Southeast Asian economies, the ASEAN, and the emerging India.
Earlier, during his ADB period, Dr. Shrestha’s responsibilities included close assessment and constant
monitoring of the major Asian economies that included China, India, Thailand and Malaysia, among others.
While in ADB, Dr. Shrestha was posted in ADB Resident Missions in Dhaka and Hanoi. During this period,
Dr Shrestha was actively engaged in various regional and sub-regional cooperation activities pertaining to
the ASEAN, SAARC, and Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) towards inter-regional trade and investment
promotion.
Dr. Shrestha has several articles published in various national, regional and international journals and dailies
including Singapore Straits Times, and Business Times. He has edited ASEAN regional journal, and has
produced two co-edited books on ASEAN and GMS.
Dr. Shrestha holds a Ph.D. degree in Economics from the University of Hawaii and is an East-West Center

KING CAR ORCHID GARDEN
Founded in 1988, King Car Orchid Garden is recognized as
the largest of its kind in northern Taiwan with a greenhouse
of 28,200 m 2 and 1.3 million Phalaenopsis plants, more
commonly known as moth orchids. It widely collects different
species and excellent genus through the development of many
artificial hybrids. The climate in Yilan is perfect for growing
orchids. With the temperature control system and the most
advanced biotechnology techniques, the garden is able to
supply domestic and overseas markets with beautiful orchids
and has received a good reputation for itself.
KAVALAN DISTILLERY
Along with Taiwan’s unique natural resources and world class
technological skills, KaVaLan Distillery was completed in 2005 by
King Car Group, and is the first and the only whisky distillery in
Taiwan, and has been racking up awards in recent years. Kavalan
Solist Vinho Barriqu is named the best single malt whisky at
the 2015 and 2016 World Whiskies Awards, beating off stiff
competition from around the world. The distillery is divided into
several buildings, including a visitor center, a tasting room and
the main distillation building. Visitors will be able to see its grain
storage tank, distillation site, huge cellar, and taste various kinds
of whisky brewed while visiting the distillery.
NATIONAL CENTER FOR TRADITIONAL ARTS
National Center for Traditional Arts, which covers 24
hectares of land in Yilan and faces the Dongshan River, is
the largest exhibition and performance site for traditional
arts in Taiwan. Built to preserve the Taiwanese traditional
arts, the center functions as a museum with rich antique
collection, cultural exhibitions as well as a recreation
park that offers a variety of art performances showcasing
Taiwanese culture. Strolling along the historic streets
and houses with red brick kiln in the Center, visitors are
immersed in the nostalgic atmosphere as if they were in
ancient times of Taiwan.

The monetary unit is the New Taiwan Dollar (NTD). The exchange rate is approximately NTD 33 to USD
1 (as of June 2016). Foreign currencies can be exchanged at the airport, government-designated banks
and hotels.

Voltage of the alternating current comprises 110V with 60 Hz frequency.
TIPPING:
Tipping generally isn’t very common in Taiwan, although it is appreciated. Most restaurants add a 10%
service charge.
VISA INFORMATION:
Visa is normally required to enter Taiwan, and can be obtained from R.O.C. embassies, consulates, or
designated representative offices in visitors’ native countries. Nationals from 45 countries can enter
Taiwan without securing prior visa. For a complete list of these 45 countries, and for more information
