Dr. van den Brink’s research is focused on developing strategies to enhance immune reconstitution following a bone marrow transplant. The Foundation is very proud to have the ability to further the research at Sloan-Kettering from a grant that was made in 2006. 2008 - $50,000 to the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX to researcher Dr. Pier Scaglioni for his research in the “Development of th a novel targeted therapy for myeloid leukemias”. This is our fourth (4 ) grant to UT Southwestern and our first to Dr. Scaglioni. 2008 - $50,000 to the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR to purchase equipment for “The Ryan Gibson Foundation Leukemia Research Laboratory”. This will once again be matched by the State of Arkansas. With this donation, along with our donations in 2007 and 2005, our total giving to UAMS has reached $250,000. 2007 - $50,000 to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in Cold Spring Harbor, NY to researchers Dr. Scott Lowe and Dr. Mona S. The Ryan Gibson Foundation is very proud to be sponsoring such a world class researcher such as Dr. Lowe and hope that our grant with further help their studies. 2007 - $50,000 to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR in order to establish a leukemia specific research laboratory to be named “The Ryan Gibson Foundation Leukemia Research Laboratory”. This lab will aid the research of Dr. Peter Emanuel and his staff at the Arkansas Cancer Research Center also in Little Rock. The gift will be matched by the State of Arkansas for a total gift of $100,000. This is a major step for the State of Arkansas as they begin to focus on basic science research for leukemia. 2006 - $50,000 to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY and Marcel van den Brink, M.D., Ph.D., Chief of Adult Bone Marrow Transplant Services. Dr. Van den Brink’s research is focused on developing strategies to manipulate donor T-cells to cause less graft versus host disease and more graft versus tumor activity, thus reducing the toxicity of the bone marrow transplant. 2005 - $50,000 to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR and Dr. David Becton of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and professor of Pediatrics at UAMS. The grant money will be used to supplement the analysis of a national clinical trial for childhood Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) conducted by the Children’s Oncology Group and its predecessor, the Pediatric Oncology Group, in which over 600 patients were enrolled around the country for the treatment of the most severe form of acute leukemia. 2005 - $50,000 to the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Dr. Patricia Yotnda, with the Cell & Gene Therapy Division, headed the research project, “Induction of Leukemia-Dendritic Cells from B-Leukemia Blast,” with the purpose of finding an alternate route to enhance the capability of leukemic cells to respond to the body’s production of antibodies so that these leukemic cells are vulnerable to attack without needing a bone marrow transplant. 2004 - $15,000 to Dr. Robert Collins and the research staff at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX. This final grant brings the total dollars donated to UT Southwestern to $50,000. 2003 - $25,000 to Dr. Robert Collins and the research staff at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX. 2002 - $10,000 to Dr. Robert Collins and the research staff at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX.
