I also hope we don’t have any more winter storms on Guild meeting night again this winter. If that should happen and we need to cancel, we will try and get the word out via our blog. Our program and workshop committees have some very interesting things lined up for the next few months. You won’t want to miss our in house “shop hop” in January and Michelle Dunn in February. Stop by the workshop table and see the classes that are coming up. The classes for February, March and April are a chance to see and try a new skill with some great teachers, at a nominal fee. Have you considered entering a quilt in a show beyond our own quilt show? The Grand National Quilt Show in Kitchener is looking for entries of any size that have been completed within 2011 – 2015. Complete requirements and details can be found at www.grandnationalquiltshow.ca Entries must be submitted by Feb. 27, 2015. Happy Quilting! She believes that embellishment is like make-up and mistakes are the steps to greater work. Sharing her recent quilts, Elizabeth covered all the basics from where do I start?, planning the design, colour value and what's next once the quilt top is completed. Loonie Draw Winners Debbie Hipple Sandra DeYoung Gloria Meyer Jane Barrett June Rose Block of the month Doris Carbert It is always a sad occasion when an established store has to close down. It is particularly disappointing when it is such a store as Kismet Wool Shop, which has been part of the St. Catharines craft scene for many years. We will miss Sheila and Bev and all their helpfulness. Please support them at the Guild Mini Shop Hop and during the closing of their shop. 8 Queenston Street St. Catharines ON L2R 2Y7 905-685-8642 To our valued Customers December 2014 It is with extremely heavy hearts and mixed emotions that we have decided to close Kismet Wool Shop in 2015. We purchased this shop when Frieda passed away nearly 10 years ago, but we feel it is time for us to retire. Our customers have been instrumental in making our business a huge success and we are forever grateful. We are open to the prospect of selling if you or anyone you know is interested in taking this over. We are constantly being told by customers that they are really glad we are here, so there is a need and this shop would surely be missed. Please feel free to approach us with any serious inquiries. Beginning in January 2015, we will be having various discounts on yarn and patterns and everything in between. We will really miss our customers who have become our friends as well. Sheila Brooks and Bev Mikulinski QUILTS OF VALOUR - CANADA The mission of Quilts of Valour Canada is to provide a quilted hug to our armed forces personnel – wounded veterans and actively serving soldiers. Many of the men and women who have chosen to preserve our freedoms and our peaceful Canadian lives are themselves often in need of mental and emotional healing. Quilted “hugs of love from across Canada” ar e one tangible way we in turn are able to say “thank you Canadian soldiers”. Our Guild is participating in the Hugs Mugs Project. For the price of $5, you can purchase a ceramic mug that contains the fa bric patches and instructions to complete one 9 inch quilt block. When you sign and then mail the block to one of the co-ordinators across Canada, she in turn arranges for your block to be sewn with others such that the finished quilt represents all the pro vinces and territories, creating a quilted hug across Canada. Quilts are presented in formal ceremonies which often turn out to be ver y moving and emotional events. The provided fabric is from the Oh Canada! line produced by Northcott. At our January meeting, the new local Niagara Region contact person, Gina DeLorenzi, will be selling the Hugs Mugs. Please stop by the table and learn more about how you can contribute a little or a lot to what the Executive hopes will become an ongoing pa rt of our guild’s outreach programme. The Guild is currently planning on using a Quilts of Valour block for the Block of the Month for May 2015. It would be much appreciated if the Northcott fabric was used for this block. You can learn more about Quilts of Valour - Canada at the completely revised and expanded website: quiltsofvalour.ca Or call Gina at 905 685 0794. If you plan on purchasing several mugs, please phone Gina so she will be sure to b ring enough mugs.
