So I officially apologize here for that and hope to do better in the future. Remember that everyone is welcome to send pictures and/or articles for the newsletter. Latitude 38 PHC won an award for the newsletter at MOTM a few years ago, let's help Kathleen do it again. Belated thanks to Paul and Hilary Palonsky for hosting the February 14 happy hour. The appetizers and drinks were great. Then the wine, chocolate, and discussion by Paul were we can correct our roster. Please notice the April 20 event, Ocean Beach Clean-up, San Francisco. This is our first beach cleanup so let's have a large turnout and do a great job. And then one of my favorite phlockings, Phins to the West in May. If you have not registered yet, get on it:) It's a great time, close to home, and a good value for the money. Also, if you hear of exciting, new places for happy hour, please let Debbie know. Speaking of money, Mike has sent renewal notices to all 2012 members. Renewal is now easier than ever and timely renewal lets the board know what we have to work with this year. very informative (and good!). If you have not re- Rus ceived it, please let me or Debbie know so President, Latitude 38 Parrothead Club 2013 Board of Directors Mardi Gras 2013 Nevada City A lot of fun and a little history. Since we can’t all go to New Orleans, we bring New Orleans to Nevada City. President Russ Hudson president@lat38phc.org Vice President Every year we celebrate Mardi Gras with Larry Birdsong and Glady McWood in Nevada City, CA. Mike Cannon Vice-president@lat38phc.org Secretary Karen Grant secretary@lat38phc.org Treasurer Sandy Riggs ptreasurer@lat38phc.org Events/Charity Debbie Short events@lat38phc.org This year it was during President’s Day weekend in February. Saturday night started us off with a hopping party at Larry & Glady’s house complete with Larry’s famous Etouffee, Jambalaya, boiled shrimp, minimuffalettas and lots of goodies, especially desserts. Thanks for pralines, Glady, they were scrumptious. George and his guitar provided the music and parrot heads provided the entertainment with their dancing. On Sunday, we marched in the Nevada City Mardi Gras Parade with some of our neighbors to the North, the Parrothead Pirates of the California Delta. This year we decorated Jeannine’s SUV and used it to haul a few grosses of beads. We’re always a hit with parade watchers with our colorful shirts, squawking parrots (Sandy Waters & Larry Birdsong), great masks and hats. Throwing them beads doesn’t hurt either. By the way, I believe we were the first ones to throw beads in the parade a few years ago and now everybody does. It seems that either we never have enough or the crowds just keep getting bigger. For more information on Mardi Gras festivities, Larry has developed a great site with FAQs. Go to http:// www.gladbird.com and click on Mardi Gras. Next year’s dates are March 1 & 2, 2014 which is Larry & Glady’s 20th anniversary of throwing the Mardi Gras “Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler” It’s never too soon to make your overnight reservations for next year’s Mardi Gras weekend. The hotels and B&B’s fill up very fast with people making reservations for next year when they checked in for this year. Give it a try, we would love to have you second lining with us. Party. In 2015, the dates are again on President’s Day weekend February 14-15, 2015. 2013 Board of Directors Newsletter Kathleen Henry newsletter@lat38phc.org Marketing/Special Events Terry Riecken marketing@lat38phc.org Merchandise Hilary Palonsky merchandise@lat38phc.org Treasurer’s Report—Sandy Riggs, Treasurer Beginning Balance (January 30th, 2012) Income 50/50 Raffle Proceeds AGM Raffle Proceeds Bocce Tournament Concert Tickets (Prepay) DJ Jeff Bracelets Donations to Club Membership Dues Merchandise MOTM Shirt Proceeds Raffle Tickets Refund Total Income $3,672.75 67.00 250.00 1,292.00 7,505.81 140.00 9.00 2,944.53 936.00 861.25 915.00 179.25 $15,099.84 Expense Bank Charges Campo di Bocce Concert Tickets Decals Donations MotM Shirts Operating Expenses PhiP Refund Expense Website Hosting Total Expense Ending Balance (March 20th, 2013) 5.00 150.00 7,371.00 320.00 6,083.00 1,099.00 1,496.04 142.00 136.50 47.88 $16,850.42 $1,922.17 Webmaster Renee Hyatt Webmaster@lat38phc.org 2013 Annual Donations Meeting of the Minds 2012 We partied with a purpose in 2012 so we could give much needed funds to charities in 2013 Parrot Heads in Key West Enjoy “Another Trip Around The Sun!” $915 Salvation Army $326 New Jersey Parrothead Club (Hurricane Sandy Relief) $300 Age Well Senior Services (Meals on Wheels) Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation American Cancer Society—Castro Valley “Fun in the sun down in Key West” Hemophilia Northern California March of Dimes East Bay Network for Good (Ronald McDonald House at Stanford) $100 California FID Parrot & Exotics Rescue Sanctuary Sacramento Zoo Save the Manatee NO ARTICLE SUBMITTED Thanks Bruce Riggs for the Pictures! Chris “Papa” Zuest PHiP President Crazy Fins for Your Car Everyone has seen the Dad, Mom, Kids, Cats, & Dogs stickers on the rear windows of automobiles. We have personally designed unique stick-on window figures that illustrate some of the craziness seen at a Buffett concert. If you have performed the iconic concert exercise of placing your hands over your head and swaying to the left and to the right in a synchronized frenzy, then you will truly appreciate what you'll find on our site. We also know Parrot Heads are multi-generational, so our figure designs include adults, teens, kids and even the family cat or dog. The figures are offered in a variety of designs including “People” or “Parrot Heads” or Parrots with wings” and are available in white on clear or in multiple tropical colors on a white background. We are very excited to show you the CrazyFins brand of unique characters. So, shoot over to www.crazyfins.com and show off your whole family in “Parrot Head” style.
