We were able to do this as many Bousteadians worked hard to achieve these results. Additionally, our corporate exercise involving the privatisation of Al-Hadharah Boustead REIT contributed to our bottom line. All our Divisions except the Heavy Industries Division registered positive performances with the Property Division leading the way. We are however confident that in the long run the Heavy Industries Division will contribute positively to the Group. In 2014, we expect many external circumstances to affect our performance. However, as a conglomerate with a diverse and skilled workforce, we should be able to overcome these challenges and do our utmost to deliver meaningful results. This will not only benefit the Group as a whole, but also increase our self-worth and give us the opportunity to challenge ourselves to do better. There will certainly be challenges this year, but on the horizon we can look forward to several key corporate milestones. This includes the proposed listing of Boustead Plantations Berhad along with a number of other corporate initiatives that will be taking place. Boustead has always been an entrepreneurialdriven conglomerate and our various businesses have contributed in one way or another to our growth. Despite the external challenges, I am confident in the coming year we will rise to the occasion and with strong teamwork deliver results. Let us aspire to move ahead and realise our goals and objectives. Thank you. Terima kasih. B oustead & Co. Ltd. was established in the same year that Singapore was founded by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1828. During that year, a British trader by the name of Edward Boustead sailed to the Far East upon news of the discovery of Singapore and subsequently set up a small office there. The original logo was reflective of Boustead’s primary business activities at the time as a trader importing goods into the country and bringing back some of the local product such as rubber, spices, tin ore and gold, amongst others. En. Musa posing with the Jalan Boustead signage In Malaysia, the company was known as Syarikat Perdagangan Boustead Sdn. Berhad. The Boustead Group first established branches in Malaysia in Penang and Kelantan. In the early days, Boustead operated a port in Tumpat, which was the capital of Kelantan before Kota Bharu became the new capital. However, as the Tumpat port of call became shallow, the Group’s activities slowly diminished in that area. Apart from trading, the Group was also involved in several mining operations in Kelantan, with the discovery of tin and gold in Temangan, Rantau Panjang and Gua Musang. The rubber plantation was under the Lapan Kabu Estate. Boustead left a historical mark in Tumpat with one of the streets in Tumpat town named ‘Jalan Boustead’ after the company. The street still exists today. Article courtesy of En.
