Despite these headwinds, the Group remains as resilient as ever, delivering a reasonable performance premised on strategic planning and acute foresight. For the first quarter of the financial year, the Group recorded a profit before tax of RM36 million on the back of a revenue of RM1.9 billion. Amidst a challenging environment, the majority of our Divisions delivered a satisfactory performance. The Plantation Division was the highest contributor to the Group, mainly driven by gains realised from disposals of non-core land. In line with this, as part of our continuous drive to unlock value by divesting in non-core businesses, we also undertook the disposal of assets by Johan Ceramics Berhad. Our focus is clear – to improve contributions from our business units to Group earnings. effort, dedication and support towards realising Boustead’s objectives. Indeed, this is testament to the effectiveness of our business strategy. Challenges will exist in business, that is a given. The onus is upon us to rise to the occasion and have forward-thinking plans in place. Last but not least, I would also like to take this opportunity to wish all Bousteadians ‘Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.’ While I am confident that the Group will continue to deliver positive results, it does not withstand the fact that this comes only through hard work. On this note, I would like to commend your Thank you. In the coming months, I urge all Bousteadians not only to maintain but also to push ourselves further in the pursuit of our goals. I started talking about wanting to do tandem skydiving with my friend, Rique, last year. After doing some research about it for four months, we decided that this is the year we were going to do it. Thus, on 30 April 2016, we packed and headed to Langkawi where the skydiving facility is located. We decided to jump with Skydive Langkawi and they confirmed our jump for 1 May 2016 at 9.00am. At 7.00am the next morning, we got ready, making sure everything was tip top for the jump. We were brought to the Skydive Langkawi office where we signed a contract, with standard waivers should something go wrong. As soon as I signed the contract and the harness was put on, I knew this was really happening. Published by: Boustead Holdings Berhad (3871-H) Printed by: Pencetak Weng Fatt Sdn Bhd (19847-W) We were then introduced to our instructor Mark, who is also the owner of Skydive Langkawi, before being whisked away to complete the skyjump training. Then we were taken to the airport to board our plane. It was a crop-duster type plane with barely enough room for five people. There was no door, either, just a plastic covering. The plane took off and we ascended pretty fast. ents! ing mom e skydiv Awesom When we reached 8,000 feet, Mark asked me to sit on his lap and get ready. The harness compressed my pelvis and ribcage and we stumbled along the plane. It was at that moment that the absurdity of the situation took hold. I was feeling numbly calm until they opened the plastic covering. Then I was excited when my friend Rique went first. It was unreal to see her fall out of the plane. Then Mark brought us to the edge of the plane. Since he was holding on, I was literally dangling over the side of the plane. Then I was waiting and waiting for the moment. Finally, we both fell out of the plane. I couldn’t even describe it. The jump was an absolutely amazing experience, like nothing I have experienced before. Nothing can compare to the mind-blowing sensation of jumping from a plane and freefalling 10,000 feet to the earth below. Those were the most interesting and enjoyable few seconds of my life. We were free-falling for about 60 seconds. For a few seconds, I had a sense of falling. Then we were falling faster and faster as the seconds passed. Then it became a sort of floating sensation. The wind was crazy and extremely enjoyable. Just seeing what was below was incredible. I adjusted to the strange new reality and stretched out my arms, feeling the sky run through my fingers like scorched cotton candy. After a while, Mark pulled the parachute and it jerked us up. We glided down towards the ground. He looped the canvas over my fingers and let me control the parachute for a while and we spun around. Pull left to spin left, right to spin right, both down hard to stop. I was soaring across the sky and it was the most amazing, freeing feeling. We then slowly swept in to land and my graceful out of body experience ended in a graceless heap on the floor. It was over! The big smile on my face said it all. I thank God for the once-ina-lifetime experience I had with Rique and Skydive Langkawi. Christina, M ark and Riqu e "So, if you're reading this to determine should I, shouldn't I? Go for it. You won't be disappointed!"
