Every year, visitors enjoy great music inside the Entertainment Area, family fun in the Children’s Area and great food on the Midway all weekend. We have exciting additions, including Wine on the Water and Bicycles on the Bay. We also expanded the Entertainment Area to accommodate a Silent Disco and a BBQ Competition. New this year, we will be featuring a Silent Disco in the Entertainment Concourse, the parking lot next to Ed White Ballfield. The Cookies are a Motown/dance group from the Grayling/ Gaylord area, comprised of Jakey Thomas, Richie V, Lexie Lou, and Jakey Baby. Their high-energy live shows delight audiences of all ages as they move through decades of hits, from 60s Motown to modern pop. The Cookies performance is sponsored by D&W Fresh Market. SATURDAY HEADLINER The Detroit Soul Review band is a nine-piece live band that features lots of vocals, horns and a locked and loaded rhythm section. They feature a large selection of soul, funk and rock tunes that will make it hard to sit still. The brand is new, but the band is really not - it’s the next incarnation of the long running Mass Transit Band that has been entertaining Detroit for the past 30+ years. The Detroit Soul Review is sponsored by Red Stripe. FIGHT FOR THE FESTIVAL WINNER The Fight for the Festival is a competition hosted by City Park Grill in May. Bands compete for a chance to win a spot on the Entertainment Tent stage, as well as an interview on KLT’s Garage, paid performances at City Park Grill and Petoskey’s Fourth of July. This year’s winner, The Drift, will perform on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.. This is a chance to explore the history of bicycles and celebrate selfpropelled transportation. Historical and custom bicycles will be on display. Bring your own bicycle and be a part of the fun. BBQ ON THE BAY Saturday, August 15 - 3:00-5:00 p.m. Entry fee for competitors - $25, Tasting card - $5 Another new event this year is the BBQ on the Bay. The BBQ on the Bay is an amateur grilling competition open to ten competitors only. Grillers will be setting up in the Entertainment Concourse (the Ed White Ballfield parking lot). Tasting will begin at 3:00 p.m. with a portion of the proceeds from tasting cards going to Manna Food Project. Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice prizes will be awarded. CELEBRATION OF THE SUNSET Saturday, August 15 - 8:00-9:30 p.m. Since the original name for Petoskey is Bedosagay, or “where the light shines through the clouds,” it’s no wonder that Petoskey is now known as the Land of the Million Dollar Sunset. Celebrate the culture of the Waganakising Odawa as the sun slips behind the waters of Lake Michigan. Native American flute player Aaron Wayne Otto will perform. He will be joined by speedpainter Martina Hahn, who will create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. COM PN-00456053 THE BIG ART SHOW CHALK & CHOCOLATE The Top of the Michigan Trails Council & Crooked Tree Arts Center present the 5th Annual Chalk & Chocolate on Saturday, where artists of all ages and abilities are welcome – from the beginner to experienced street artist. Areas of sidewalk are available to participants to create their chalk paintings. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. at a booth near the Lime Kiln Pond on the Little Traverse Wheelway. Artists may also choose to enter a competition to have their work of art judged for cash prizes! Ann Arbor Street Artist David Zinn is the featured artist and juror. Kilwin’s and other chocolatiers will be providing a chocolate tasting from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. For a $5 fee, you can sample delicious chocolates from around the world with proceeds being donated to the Crooked Tree Arts Center and the Top of Michigan Trails Council. WATERFRONT FUN Looking for fun on the water? The Outfitter and Bahnhof will be offering free kayak rides and demos Friday and Saturday at Festival Place. On Saturday, you can also help paddle the Jiimaan Canoe out onto the bay or participate in the new Paladin Paddle Regatta. The Regatta will begin at 5:00 p.m. and all monies raised supports Petoskey Robotics. The 10th Annual BIG Art Show by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Michigan will take place on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Artists and crafters will display their creative wares in Pennsylvania Park. YOUTH FISHING DERBY The Miller Van Winkle Chapter of Trout Unlimited has joined with the Department of Natural Resources and the North Michigan Sport Fishing Club to host a Youth Fishing Derby from 10:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 15 at the Lime Kiln Pond. This event is designated for youth under the age of 17 and no license is required. MVWTU will provide rods and reels. You must bring the good luck. This untimed walk/run for people of all ages and athletic ability is a time to share laughs, smiles and be healthy, all while helping your local YMCA! Be sure to wear white shirts! WATER BALL COMPETITION The Petoskey Public Safety firefighters will challenge other local fire departments to see who can move the water ball the fastest. The Fire Station will also be open and everyone is invited to come take a close look at the facilities and equipment. The Open House and Water Ball Competition will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Festival Place. Bring food and toiletries and help Fill the Cruiser with supplies for the Women’s Resource Center safe home. DOWNTOWN EVENTS The Petoskey Farmers Market is Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Howard Street. You can taste the local difference by purchasing directly from the local grower. The last Concert in the Park will be 12:15 p.m. on Friday, August 15 with Chris Koury performing in Pennsylvania Park. Enter the “Treasures in Petoskey” drawing for an opportunity to win by visiting downtown stores and restaurants. Collect receipts from purchases made on August 14th and 15th at any Downtown Petoskey business listed in the Treasure Map guide.
