Did anyone remember the test tubes? Is Brenton Bade star' ng
our best building event on fire? The 2003-2004 school year ias
presented West's Science Olympiad team with a wide variet · of
new challenges. The team has been busy building trebuchE:s,
balsa wood planes, and Rube Goldberg machines, as well ;:; ;
studying for academic events ranging from astronomy to zo11logy.
All the hard work paid off, as the team placed third overall ai the
regional competition despite the small size of this year's tea n.
First place regional awards were won by Samantha Michals <i ,
Minna An, Gene Lowry, Tabassum Chowdhury, and Abby Hall. In
preparation for the coming school year, the team has vowe to
get an earlier start on their building projects (a.k.a. more than
three days before the competition) and to start as few labs on fire
as possible. Way to go, Sci Oly!
