Among Artists Performing November 4 at Sheraton Boston Hotel
Boston, MA--Dimock Community Health Center has just announced the full lineup of its 19th annual glamorous Steppin' Out
fundraising gala taking place this year at the Sheraton Boston Hotel [39 Dalton Street in Back Bay] on Saturday, November 4 at
8:00 pm. The event begins with an elegant pre-gala reception and dinner from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm for Star Patrons.
This year's New Orleans-themed lineup will feature R&B/gospel vocal stars Kenny Lattimore & Chanté Moore, legendary New
Orleans' pianist/vocalist Dr. John, Latin timbales king Tito Puente Jr. and his big band, jazz trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis and his
band, rhythm and blues vocalist Cuba Gooding, Sr. and his band The Main Ingredient, R&B songwriter, producer and vocalist
Dwele, heavy New Orleans brass funk titans Rebirth Brass Band, the diva of jazz and blues Lavay Smith & The Red Hot Skillet
Lickers, the New Orleans' swing, funk, second line, R&B, hard bop, Latin, blues and calypso ensemble known as the Henri Smith
- Nat Simpkins Band with saxophonist Charles Neville, singer/songwriter Digney Fignus and his Cajun Band, jazz tenor
saxophonist Paulo Danay and his Jazz Quartet, tuba player Kendrick Oliver and his gospel-tinged big band New Life Orchestra,
jazz and gospel/R&B pianist George Russell Jr. and his band featuring vocalist Wannetta Jackson, jazz pianist Hey Rim Jeon,
New York-based-Tobago-born island/gospel singer Wendy Mitchell, and Boston's own Silver Lining Gospel Singers. These artists
will be performing all evening, alternating continuously in eight different "nightclubs" at the Sheraton Boston Hotel beginning at
8:00 pm and ending at 2:00 am. Food and cash bars will be available throughout the evening in each room.
“We're extremely pleased with this year's line up of talent – most particularly with the great selection we have of New Orleansstyled artists,” said Ruth Ellen Fitch, Dimock's President and CEO. “It's especially important in the wake of last year's hurricane
that we all remember that New Orleans was more than just a vacation destination, but a thriving city rich in history and culture.
Steppin' Out is a perfect place for Bostonians to honor New Orleans' important role in our country's collective identity, and to
remember the ongoing struggles of our brothers and sisters in Louisiana.”
In addition to the talent mentioned above, one group will be chosen from among five finalists during this evening's Steppin' Out
with the Stars annual Talent Search. The finalists, narrowed down from more than 30 submissions, will each perform a 10 minute
set at Scullers Jazz Club beginning at 7:30 pm in conjunction with the press announcement party. A panel of judges will
determine which group will join the 2006 Steppin' Out lineup.
Steppin’ Out for Dimock is Boston’s liveliest and most highly anticipated annual gala fundraising event. Staged to mimic Boston's
legendary and historic jazz clubs of the 30’s through today, this one-of-a-kind charity music-fest-party attracts more than 3,000 of
the city’s glitterati for an evening of music, dancing, food, cocktails, friends and fun. Steppin' Out will transport this year's
partiers to a world of New Orleans music and masked balls; the diverse group of party goers’ snappy suits and fancy dress have
given Steppin' Out its reputation for great people-watching. Partiers will be dazzled by the array of nationally-recognized jazz
headliners who set toes a-tapping and lift audience members out of their seats to join the crowd dancing in the aisles!
