LIVING TODAY’S WORD
Humility is the most elusive of all the virtues. Today’s
Gospel parable of the places of honor at table illustrates
the paradox of humility. Those who assumed higher
places were embarrassed; those who took lower places
were invited to a higher honor. Humility is never
achieved directly. One doesn’t become humble by
trying to be humble and those who think they are humble
usually are not. But when one seeks fundamental virtues;
truth, honesty and charity, humility follows as a result.
Adult: Who are the people living near you that you
would find it most difficult to invite to a meal in your
home? Or to invite to be part of your life?
Child: Jesus tells us that we should treat everyone as a
guest. Who do you tend to shun or not be nice to?

Promise, expressed her deepest gratitude and that of
every Family Promise client who has benefited from
your Christ-like generosity during the past several years.
"Without your support, these children and their families
would continue sleeping in cars, benches along the

There are always going to be differences between
political candidates and parties. We never choose a
perfect candidate so we must prayerfully distinguish
how their views align with our values asking who will
protect religious freedom, marriage and the family? At
times we may grow impatient with ourselves and the
political process but in the end, a vote can make the
difference between who is or is not elected as President,
Senator, Representatives, other officials on down the list.
So plan to vote in a prayerful way asking God to inspire
you to support men and women who are willing to live
and work for Gospel values to nurture our society. If
you need to register to vote, don't put it off. Registration
to vote deadline is October 11, 2016. Your vote is
important.

those who are enrolled and the funds are used for the
upkeep of the Church and to help in acquiring religious
items for the Church and/or parishioners. A donation of

have enrolled their loved ones and especially to those
who at the death of a loved one have requested donations
be given to the Memorial Fund.

greatly appreciated.
Bishop Cullen's Campaign in 2003 "Strengthening our
Future in Faith" has resulted in many diocesan and
parish needs being met. Our Parish recently received a
check for $212.50 as a few parishioners continue to
fulfill their pledges. Once again, thanks for all you do
for the Diocese and our Parish.
Advent by Candlelight: Yes, it is
August and we need to begin the

women to well over 150. For this program to continue,
Tricia is in need of your help. She is looking to form a
committee of 5. Please email Tricia Matsko at:
mats3@ptd.net for details.
Men needed too! Can you help with the set-up and take
