Recognized as MACCI’s Firm of the Year
Founded in 1964 by Dan W. Wheeler, Wheelers continues to grow. Celebrating 50 years
in business, Wheelers started as a single point Chevrolet dealership and then purchased
Crown Oldsmobile, Cadillac and Pontiac in 1995. In 2005, Wheelers purchased the GMC
franchise from Mid-State Truck Service and solidified their standing as being Marshfield’s
GM dealership. Growth on Marshfield’s southside continued with their new Auto Body
and Collision Center, and in July of 2011, Wheelers Auto Repair and Tire Center opened
on Marshfield’s northside to better serve the community. Most recently Wheelers acquired
a dealership in Medford and now has a physical presence there to serve an even greater
number of customers.
The Wheeler family is very involved in Marshfield and the surrounding communities.
Giving back to the Central Wisconsin State Fair, Whitetails Unlimited, Marshfield High
School’s, “how to buy a car” class, Gary Varsho and Chevy Youth Baseball, Hewitt Area
Recreation Department’s Youth Baseball, Marshfield Middle School Youth Soceer, Columbus Catholic Youth Soceer, National Wild Turkey Federation and Dairyfest, to name a few.

Forward Financial Bank Grows Commercial Banking Team
Forward Financial Bank has added two members to the Commercial Banking team serving the greater
Marshfield area. Jessica Frahm and Chad Hoerman join Dave Krause in providing banking services to the
businesses in Marshfield and the surrounding communities.
Jessica, AVP & Commercial Lender has been with Forward Financial Bank for 13 years.
She has developed extensive knowledge by working as a loan assistant and most recently
as the primary Mortgage lender serving the area. She is a graduate of Leadership Marshfield and is active in the Athens community.
Chad, Commercial Banker has been with Forward Financial Bank for
three years as a Credit Analyst reviewing the supporting loan

Marshfield Furniture Celebrates 70 years in Marshfield!
Founded in 1944 as the Banner Mattress Co., Marshfield Furniture is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, and President Bill Mork said the company’s
accomplishments have always involved looking forward instead of relying on
what worked in the past. Operating as Modern Sleep Products Co., the company
moved to Marshfield from Chicago in 1958. Modern Sleep Products reincorporated as Modern of Marshfield Inc. and ushered in an extensive shift in business
strategy along with the new name. Today, the company is a manufacturer of
upholstered furniture. In January of this year, Marshfield Furniture was featured
in the industry news section of “Furniture Today” the business newspaper of the furniture industry.

Heritage Bank Welcomes Krultz
Deanna Krultz has joined Heritage Bank as the successor CFO that will be vacated
from the retirement of Harry Borgman. Deanna grew up in the Greenwood area,
graduating from Viterbo University in LaCrosse with a degree in accounting. She has
been in public accounting for twenty years, most recently as a senior accountant with
Hawkins Ash CPAs. She is active in her church, volunteers at Shirley’s House of Hope
and is a member of Connections, a woman’s networking group in Marshfield.

MACCI Board Welcomes Three New Directors
At MACCI’s Annual Dinner at the end of January, three individuals were welcomed to serve a three-year term on the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s Board of Directors. They are:
Nick Arnoldy, is Chief Executive Officer/Owner of Marshfield Insurance Agency. Nick’s community
involvement includes serving on the Board of Directors for Main Street Marshfield; MACCI Ambassador;
member of the Marshfield Area Coalition for Youth; Rotarian, member of Marshfield Elks Lodge #665;
and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Nick, and his wife, Sarah have two children, Mason and Avery and are expecting their third baby in April.
In his spare time, Nick enjoys watching football, playing basketball and golf, and spending time with his
family.
Jerry Cleveland, is President and CEO of Ministry Home Care, Inc. in Marshfield. Jerry’s community
involvement includes serving on MACCI’s Dairyfest Steering Committee, Small Business Council, and
Business Bowl; Marshfield Area United Way Board of Directors and current President; Marshfield Sunrise Rotary Club Board member 2013-2014; Assistant District Governor-Rotary District 6250; Marshfield
Area Respite Care Center board member 2011-2014; Finance Council member St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; member of Knights of Columbus-Father John Eisen Council 1799; member American Legion
Post 54; and member Wisconsin Pyrotechnics Arts Guild; and member Pyrotechnics Guild International.
Jerry, and his wife Adella have been married for 43 years and have three sons and nine grandchildren.
Originally from Iowa, his entire family resides there. Jerry’s passions include flying, reading, camping,
grandkids and pyrotechnics (fireworks).
Robert Trussoni, is General Manager of Marshfield Utilities. Bob’s community involvement includes
member of Marshfield Sunrise Rotary and serving as Foundation Chair; Rotary District 6250 Charitable
Trust board member and treasurer; Continuing Education Marshfield Area (CEMA) treasurer, member of
St. John’s Catholic Church.
Bob, and his wife Monica have been married for 35 years and have four daughters and six grandchildren,
with a seventh on the way. Bob enjoys spending time with his family.

Soup or Socks Presents Marshfield Area Empty Bowls
On Saturday, March 8 from 11 am - 2 pm, at the UW Marshfield/Wood County,
come have lunch and help support Soup or Socks. 100% of the proceeds from
this fundraising event supports this very worthwhile organization.
For only $10 you will receive lunch in a bowl of choice! Every bowl is hand
crafted and donated by local artists. Soups are being donated by area restaurants
and raffle prizes are being donated by area businesses. Kids activities and
entertainment will also be available.
New this year: empty bowls merchandise will be on sale and trolley rides to the
door from the parking lots. This fundraising event is a simple reminder there is
always someone with an empty bowl.
“Giving Hope a Home” Programming
The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge is pleased to announce that their new
show “Giving Hope a Home” has become a reality with their first episode that
aired February 8th. The programs are designed to bring you beneficial information
and answer questions about cancer. The monthly episodes are scheduled to air on
Marshfield Community Television Channel 98, Digital Channel 989 and Charter Cable
on Saturdays at 9 am, 1 pm and & 7:30 pm, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:30
am and 7:30 pm. Additional times will air when scheduling permits.
Viva Las Vegas - Elvis lives!
On Saturday, April 26 at the Marshfield Public Library, plan to attend a Vegas style
evening complete with Elvis! Doors open at 6 pm and the evening will include
Southern Comfort food (baked chicken and fixin’s, sweet tea and sweet potato pie).
Dinner will be served at 7:15 pm. From 8-9 pm G.L. (Garry) Wesley, world renowed
Elvis impersonator will perform. A cash bar, with beer and wine, will be available.
A silent auction including an array of Elvis collectables and licensed Graceland
items, Clyde Wynia “hound dog with guitar”, a custom built little free library (built
by Mike Feirer), Ordway Theatre (St. Paul) tickets, and a custom-made cedar raised
garden (built by Ken Swenson).
Advance tickets are $25 or will be sold at the door for $30. Tickets are available at
MACCI and the Library.

Community Center project.

Reality Stores Scheduled
The 2014 Reality Stores have been scheduled for March 11 at Spencer Schools and April 15
at Marshfield Middle School. Eighth grade students from Auburndale, Columbus Catholic,
Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marshfield, Pittsville, Spencer, and St. Joseph Catholic schools
will attend the stores. This successful event, originally a Leadership Marshfield project, helps
eighth grade students put the puzzle of their future together.
The
Reality
Store
Before the day of the store, students will be assigned an occupation with annual income, benefits, a marital status, combined income, and children. The first lesson students will learn is how
to calculate their net monthly income. They deduct state and federal taxes, social security and Medicare, and quickly realize
the difference between gross and net income.
As they enter the store, the young shoppers will be greeted by business volunteers representing a variety of monthly expenses. Students arrange for their housing, furnishings, utilities, transportation, childcare, groceries, insurance, and taxes, and will
be required to donate to charity and contribute to their savings account. They are allowed to make optional purchases such as
computers, motorcycles, pets, and family vacations; assuming, of course, their budget allows for such expenditures. In addition, students are given “chance factors”, the unexpected occurrences that affect a family’s budget, such as emergency room
visits, automobile problems, or spontaneous purchases.
Life lessons that occur daily as adults are simulated in the store. During past year’s stores, several students downsized their
homes, realized they couldn’t purchase the vehicles they wanted, or gave up other luxuries to make their money balance.
Some pursued a part-time job to makes ends meet, discovered a need for social services assistance, or went “back to school”
to change careers. Many students are amazed at the added expense of having children!
Most students leave the reality store with an increased awareness of budgeting money and making wise financial choices.
Others have admitted they will give more consideration to their career and education choices. Overall, the reality store
exposes students to the concept of preparing a monthly budget, with a glimpse of how much things cost and how quickly
they add up.
The Reality Stores are “staffed” by area business representatives who “sell” their services to these eighth grade students. For
example, realtors sell houses, car dealers sell vehicles, and insurance agents offer home and automobile coverage. While in
the store, students have to arrange for day care services, pay municipal taxes and order telephone and electric service as they
prepare a monthly budget. Your help is needed as we plan this year’s stores. For more information or to find out how you can

Help for the Homeless
To help those less fortunate, a “Hygine Drive” is being held March 3-30 helping to
support local crisis shelters and agencies by providing practical help to those in need.
In the Marshfield area, Mary’s Place, Soup or Socks and St. Vincent de Paul are shelters
being helped through this drive. Most needed items include: cleaning supplies,
feminine needs, bathroom tissue, diapers/baby care, hair care, deodorant, dental care,
body lotion, laundry soap, garbage bags, paper towels and face/bath soap. Please note
that personal hygiene items are not covered by FoodShare (Food Stamps).
Donations can be dropped off to participating stores including Walgreens, Festival
Foods and Shopko. Local sponsors of this drive include Century 21 Gold Key Realty
and Ministry Health Care.

Online Marketing Planning in the 2014
First and foremost, I hope everyone’s 2014 is off to a good start!
This last year has been very exciting for me, seeing multiple changes and personal
victories. I have had the privilege of learning new skills while building existing skills.
My goal for this year is to share with you as many of those skills as possible to help
your business have a prosperous new year online.
Staying on topic with the new-year theme, don’t forget how important it is to plan your online new year out. Planning should be done for all internet related aspects of your business including; social media, blog posts, website
content, and more. Sales, specials, and events are all good marketing topics to plan for. Some online resources,
including Facebook, can be scheduled out ahead of time.
I recommend setting aside one day to have a formal meeting with key members of your staff and focus solely on
your yearly marketing and events. Break your year down on a calendar and discuss what time period (weekly,
monthly, and quarterly) should be focused on. Once you have your calendar organized, simply discuss and plan the
best way to market these ideas.
Planning your marketing ahead allows for all involved to have a clear direction on the path of business. It also
allows ample time to create any necessary resources needed or purchase necessary services.

Partners Offers Educational Program
Partners with Saint Joseph’s Hospital will host an Alzheimer’s Association education program on Tuesday, March
11 at 6:30 pm in the Mother Frances Streitel Conference Center of Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital. “The Basics:
Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease” is designed to help you understand the difference between
normal age-related memory changes or more serious memory problems that should be evaluated by a medical professional. Other topics covered include the common causes of memory loss, risk factors, and the importance of an
accurate diagnosis.

Ben Brancel was appointed Secretary of
Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection by
Gov. Scott Walker, beginning with the
governor’s term in January 2011.
Secretary Brancel was born and raised in
Marquette County, WI. After managing a
dairy operation for 22 years, Brancel now
raises registered Angus and Hereford beef cattle. Brancel and his
wife, Gail, live on his family’s 290-acre farm, which is now owned by
his son and daughter-in-law, Tod and Sondra, the sixth consecutive
generation to the farm and land.
Brancel attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he
received a degree in animal science. He has served as a leader in

Brancel served in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1986-1997
and was tapped to serve as the co-chair of the budget-writing Joint
Finance Committee in 1995. During his legislative service, he
helped craft the state’s Right to Farm law and the use value
assessment for taxing farmland. He was elected by his colleagues
to serve as Assembly Speaker in 1997.
Kristin Olson is serving as the 66th
Alice in Dairyland. As Wisconsin's
agriculture ambassador, she is
striving to educate audiences across
Wisconsin about the $59 billion
economic impact and importance of
our state's diverse agriculture industry
in our daily lives. A native of Fond du Lac, Kristin grew up
showing dairy cattle with her family's small show herd,
Crestbrooke Holsteins and Jerseys.
In 2010, she graduated from the University of WisconsinMadison with a life sciences communications degree.
During college, Kristin held leadership roles in the
Association of Women in Agriculture, Badger Dairy Club
and the National Agri-Marketing Association. She was the
2007 Fond du Lac County Fairest of the Fair and the 2009
Wisconsin Outstanding Holstein Girl. Additionally, Kristin
interned with the Wisconsin House of Moo, Accelerated
Genetics and UW-Madison Dairy Science Department.

Hub City Days
There may be snow on the ground but we are getting ready for
summer. This year, Hub City Days will be July 25-26th. We are
taking applications for art and craft vendors. If you know of
anyone who may be interested, have them contact us!

We are looking for storefront windows to display local art for the
summer. Art is displayed from July thru September. If you would
like to participate, please contact the office.

What are we up to?
Promotion– Working on planning our upcoming summer events (Block Party, Hub City Days,
Rediscover Downtown). Next meeting is Monday, March 10th at 8:15am.
Design– Gearing up for the planting season for the flowers downtown. Also working on Flash
Galleries and bring more art to the downtown. Next meeting is Monday, March 3rd at 10am.
Organization—Looking at possibly bringing a 3 on 3 Basketball tournament to Hub City Days as a
fundraiser. Next meeting is Thursday, March 20th at 8am.
Economic Restructuring—We are still working on the kiosk for the clinic. Also working on a
possible business contest for the downtown to recruit a new business. Next meeting is
Wednesday, March 26th at 7:30am.
All meetings are held at the Main Street Office and we welcome new members!
