PARISH NEWS
Dear Parishioners and Friends:
Pentecost is what we are celebrating next Sunday - the final
moment of the Easter celebration - a moment to remember that
the Spirit came upon the Church, that the Spirit is with the
Church - the People of God - you and me. “Spirit of the
Living God Fall Afresh on Me,” we all pray. Recognizing the
importance of this day and of the Spirit’s Presence, the Parish
Planning Committee has suggested, and I have agreed, that
Pentecost is an ideal moment to ask us, the Church, to
contribute our ideas to the Parish Planning Process - praying,
“Send forth your spirit, Lord.” Hopefully you and all the
members of the parish will agree to answer the questions
placed before us, and help the life of the parish.
Our parish school is proud to introduce the new assistant
principal, Ms. Stephanie Filauro. Ms. Filauro joins the SBS
team from St. Stephen of Hungary School where she teaches
first grade. In addition to a Masters in Education from Johns
Hopkins University, Ms. Filauro is currently studying
Educational Leadership at Fordham University as part of The
Archdiocese of NY's Curran Principal Academy. Although
she will not officially begin her new role until this
summer, Ms. Filauro will join a School Town Hall and PA
Cocktail Party Thursday, May 12 at 6pm. All parents including
parents of those entering the school this coming year and
parishioners interested in learning about our school are invited
to meet Ms. Filauro and celebrate another successful year at
SBS!
We have a number of exemplars of saintliness to think about
this week. On Monday, we celebrate St. Damien, a native of
Belgium, who moved to the Hawaiian island of Molokai to
care for those with Hansen’s disease. Thursday is the feasts
of Sts. Nereus and Achilleus and St. Pancras, all converts and
martyrs who died in 304.
Friday we celebrate Our Lady of
Fatima, who appeared to three children in Portugal starting on
May 13, 1917. Our Lady asked the children to pray the
Rosary every day for world peace.
Please pray for those who made their First Holy Communion
yesterday, a day of great celebration in the parish. And keep
in your prayer this week those preparing to receive the
sacrament of Confirmation on Pentecost Sunday when Bishop
John O’Hara our Episcopal Bishop will join us to lead our
prayer.
Pray for peace in this Year of Mercy. Happy Mothers Day!
Fr. Duffell

A word of thanks for your generous response to the needs of the parish.
Last Sunday $6,053.3 was received in the offertory baskets at Mass and
$4,529 was received through parish pay.... for a total Sunday offering of
$10,582.3. A second offering of $1,503 was collected to support the
church in Central and Eastern Europe. Again, thank you.
SHARE YOUR VOICE: TAKE OUR PARISH SURVEY
Whether you are a long-standing parishioner or newcomer, you are
invited to share your voice and help plan the future direction of our
church by participating in a Parish Survey.
All parishioners are encouraged to complete the Parish Survey to assist
Blessed Sacrament in its long-term planning. The results will be used to
develop a pastoral plan and vision to better serve parishioners and our
community.
Beginning May 14, the survey, which consists of multiple-choice and
open-ended questions, will be distributed during all Masses in both
English and Spanish. Parishioners are encouraged to complete the
survey before the end of Mass for collection by Parish volunteers. The
survey
will
also
be
available
online
at

AMORIS LAETITIA COURSE
The Pope's latest document is groundbreaking, and indeed,
controversial. The print version will be available the first week of May.
Fr. Michael Holleran will be offering a Saturday morning course to
explain, interpret and discuss the document.
When: May 14th, 28th, and June 4th, from 10:30am to noon,
Where: the Merton Center of Notre Dame's Church (405 W 114th Street,
NY, NY)
BOOK CLUB
The Book Club will meet May 25, 6:30 to 8:00. We will be reading the
Pulitzer Prize winning novel "Gilead" by Marilynne Robinson. It's a
novel whose core theme is intergenerational conflict, but also a
meditation on how even the simplest life, the small circumstances and
events of our lives, can be touched by grace and wonder.

NOTICIAS PARROQUIALES
Queridos Feligreses y Amigos;
Principal”, Ms. Stephanie Filauro. Maestra de primer
grado en la “St. Stephen of Hungary School”, obtuvo su
“Masters in Education” en la Universidad John Hopkins y
esta estudiando Liderazgo Educacional en Fordham
University.
Padre Duffell.
