Judy joined the CEDHA study because she was wanted to learn more about herself and changes in her cognitive ability. She then went on to spread the word to others about her experience as a participant. Since becoming a member of the CEDHA advisory council in 2014, Judy has recruited five members for the study, which includes her two sisters. Judy always has a fun story to tell about her experience as a bar tender and enjoys making others laugh. She is always a pleasure to be around. Thank you Judy! Janet Fisk and Judy Collura CEDHA Holiday Party A very warm thank you to everyone who joined us for our annual holiday party. We had a great time and it was wonderful to gather with friends, associates and colleagues to celebrate the season! Be Present! Clarify your priorities! Connect with others! Celebrate! Love yourself! Give back to others! Written by Molly Mahar Your body is the vehicle that carries you through your life. Love yourself by treating your body with respect & care. Fuel it well with fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains & lean protein. Move it daily. Don’t smoke, don’t abuse alcohol. Meditate. Help yourself age well by staying flexible, protecting your skin from sun & exercising your mind. Sleep well. Beware the ease in which you critique yourself & indulge in praise instead. Devise a plan to add some of these strategies to your day, to your week, to your life. Your well being depends on it! CEDHA CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORY! Page 3 The Rush Center of Excellence on Disparities in HIV and Aging (CEDHA) is a partnership between Rush University Medical Center, the Ruth M. Rothstein Core Center, and the Community Outreach Intervention Projects of University of Illinois, at Chicago. Our focus is on health in older adults, including adults with HIV, and is funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities of NIH. The Center works toward eliminating health disparities in 3 ways: 1. Partnering with community organizations and older adults to foster healthy aging; 2. Training the next generation of researchers focused on health disparities; and 3. Conducting high quality research to understand the causes of health disparities among older adults.
