How To Register Guide
Eligibility...Applicants Must:






Must be a student between the ages of 15 and 18 years;
Must not have any criminal charges pending before the court;
Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident;
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada;
Must be attending school; and
Must not have previously participated in any YIPI program
Additionally, youth must be permanent residents of one of the following
neighbourhoods:
 Flemingdon Park - Victoria Village
 Malvern
 Jane - Finch
 Crescent Town
 Eglinton East - Kennedy Park
 Jamestown
 Regent Park
 Scarborough Village
 Kingston - Galloway
 Dorset Park
 Steeles - L’Amoreaux
 South Parkdale
 Westminster – Branson
 Weston – Mount Dennis
 Lawrence Heights
Before You Apply...
 Make the time to start and finish the application , set aside 30-45
minutes to complete the online application
 Make sure you have an updated resume
 Use only Windows Explorer 7 and above
 Valid e-mail address (to receive confirming correspondence)
 Ensure you have all the correct information available to refer to, i.e.
employer address, volunteer information, etc.
Note: Paper applications will not be accepted

You will be directed to the registration page. This is where you create your
user name and password.

Applications MUST include a resume.
The resume does not have to be elaborate. It can be saved in a simple format, no
pictures or borders are required. Be sure to include any volunteer or job experience.
Click on the circle to upload
resume and then click continue

After you click continue on the previous page, this pop up box will appear
and allow you to browse your computer for the resume you would like to
upload.

Once you have located the resume you would like to include with your
application, click upload.

Make sure your resume title is short (e.g. yipiresume.doc) to ensure that it
uploads easily. Once you have done so, you can view the resume to verify its
contents or click continue.

After clicking “Add Language Skills”, the option below will appear. Fill out the
asterisk areas shown below. Once you have finished, you can click “OK” to
continue, or the “Apply and Add Another” option to add another language.

The YIPI program may be a first work experience for most applicants, therefore
prior work or volunteer experience is not required.

This section allows you to inform the Toronto Police Service about how you
found out about the YIPI program. If you were referred to the job from another
source you can enter the details in the “Additional Details” field.

A green check mark confirms that a section has been completed. A yellow
caution sign illustrates that a section has not been completed. Click “Not
Applicable/No Information” for the sections that are not applicable to you.

Service strongly recommends each applicant to complete this survey.

If you do not wish to participate you can select the “I do not want to participate”
option followed by “I do not agree to these terms” and click submit.

Once an application has been submitted, the screen below will display the
application status. If the status of the application shows as “Unsuccessful” you
will need to return to the previous page and resubmit the application.

Once an application has been successfully submitted you will receive a
confirmation e-mail as a receipt. Please do not respond to this email as it
is automatically generated for information purposes.
Application Deadline
 The Toronto Police Service thanks all applicants for applying;
however only those candidates selected for an interview will be
contacted within two months of the application deadline
 Youth selected for the program will be contacted approximately
one month before the program work term commences
 Letters will be sent to youth who have been interviewed and not
selected for the program
 Youth will be selected based on job availability, the interview,
security clearance, skills and suitability
 All correspondence will be via the e-mail provided on the
application/resume
