Highlights of Session
The Session of the First Cumberland Presbyterian
Church, Murfreesboro, TN, met for the regular
meeting on August 15, 2016.
Elder to make announcements on Sunday mornings
during September will be Teresa Hayes.
Elders of the Month for September will be Clyde
McClaran and Don Jones.
September has come around again! School is back in session, not
only for our children, but also for the young adults at MTSU. With
that influx of thousands more people in our city, we have some opportunities to share the word of God and maybe a bit more crazy
traffic.
Wednesday Midweek Program 6-7pm
PreK-Adults –Week 1 – Intergenerational Study
Kids (K-12th) – Weeks 2-5 –Study Buddies Homework Help

The session and I just finished reading a book together entitled "I
Am A Church Member." There are six chapters with covenants at the
end of each chapter that speak about a biblical model of church

membership.
Chi Rho worship on first Sunday of the month, followed by
meal and fellowship time.
Several copies of the book have been donated to the church library in
the Aden-McClaran Resource Center, and I am going to begin in the Weeks 2-5: We will have music and meal each week in
addition to classes.
month of September preaching a sermon series on the six topics covJr./Sr. High Students – fellowship/games together followed by
ered in the book.
I hope you will make a special effort to be in worship for these next
six weeks. The information in the book is valuable. Some may seem
like review, and some may seem surprising, but all of the topics covered in the book are important for us to learn what a good model is
for biblical church membership, overcome some of the pitfalls of
church membership in a modern world, and learn how to make our
membership and our outreach more effective.

Young Adults—will prepare meal each week while discussing
topics like discerning purpose, budgeting,
priorities, dating, marriage, etc.

know.)

Our first annual Golf Tournament is coming up. It will be held at
Champion's Run Golf Course on October 15. We need sponsors and
we need golfers. Sponsors can sponsor a tee, a green, or they can give a
prize for the golfers who will play. We need your help! Wherever you do
business, especially with local businesses, ask those businesses if they
would consider sponsoring the tournament. The forms for sponsorship
were e-mailed recently, but if you need a copy, please see me and I'll get
you a copy.
Also, I will be asking this month for donations from you all for our goody
bags and for the lunch that will be provided for the golfers. Goody bags
will have things like crackers, water, golf tees, golf balls, and other small
items that each golfer will receive as a thank you for playing. Lunch will be
hamburgers, fixin's, side items, and dessert. The more we can have
donated to the tournament, the better our net income will be. Thank you
in advance for your help!

Food Bank
Now that the regular busy summer is about
over, I’m trusting that all of us will resume
filling the Food Bank crate each week. With all
our summer activities games to watch, practice for everything, hot weather, visitors and family outings, it has been
difficult to remember the crate. However, our fall and
winter schedule is upon us and I hope that
everyone will remember the folks who really
need our donations for the crate.
Many thanks to everyone, Bobbye

Operation: Adopt a Hero is a community based organization created to reach out to all veterans: active,
reserve, and retired alike, and bridge the gap between them and their local community.
The organization promotes and hosts social events, and as needed, promotes specific resources to
aid veterans and their families. This helps veterans to build a life inside and outside the military,
while building a link between the community at large and themselves and their families.
Our efforts intend to create a lasting, beneficial, symbiotic relationship between all.
Please consider joining our mission. Join the people who are helping create a community base for veterans.
Through education and love, this community can change the rate of suicide, divorce, and hopelessness.
