June - Rock Hill Area Shag Club
MAY 2016 ISSUE 109 kch Dean Baker President of the Rock Hill Area Shag Club Hello Fellow RHASC Members, Well May is now behind us and we are gearing up for the HOFF Vegas Night Party. There are so many things going on with the Vegas Night party this year that I just can’t decide where to begin. First of all, we will have ball rooms set up with gaming tables. Since we will have more room, we will have more tables. We will have a DJ in the ballroom playing some great tunes and there will be room to dance. We will also have the bar set up with some great food and we will have another DJ working hard to keep that dance floor full. Frank Price and Dennis Hydrick will be your DJs for the evening. The auction is going to be great this year. There will be some wonderful items available . I really think this will be a banner year for the auction. I hope it will be a banner year for the funds we raise for HOFF as well! Please be sure to tell all of your friends to come out and join the party. The more people we get there, the more we can hopefully contribute to HOFF! Our May party was a blast. I believe we had more people there than any party so far this year. Dana Grubb did a great job as our DJ. The social committee provided wonderful food. We held a business meeting prior to the party. We voted in 4 new people which brings our total enrollment for the year to 204. The club also voted to once again join the CBMA in the hopes that we get our HOFF party nominated for party of the year. I would encourage as many members as possible to join as well. As a voting member you get to vote in many categories for CBMA awards, one of which is “party of the year.” 1 As always I would like to encourage you to come to our Friday night Meet and Greet sessions. We always have such a good time on Friday nights, you don’t want to miss out. Ronnie now has Fun Monday tickets for sale. I would encourage as many of you as possible to get some tickets from Ronnie to sell to friends and family. The grand prize drawing is for $7500.00. The money raised from these ticket sales help pays for the bands at Fun Sunday and Fun Monday at Fall Migration in September. The additional funds are donated to charities supported by SOS. Ronnie still has SOS cards for sale as well. I look forward to seeing all of you at our club events. I encourage each of you to visit our web site at http://www.rock-hill-area-shag-club.com/. Take a look at the calendar to keep up with upcoming events. You can also access the newsletters, party pictures, and also learn more about our club. See you on the dance floor! From our family to yours: Have a safe and happy Independence Day! 2 Social June, 2016 Newsletter Our May Happy 35th Anniversary party was a wonderful event – celebrating 35 years as a great club. We had three founding members in attendance – Danny Long, Ducky Moore and Dewitt Hull. Dana Grubb was our DJ for the evening and he did a fabulous job and kept the dance floor hopping. Thanks to all who attended to help us celebrate. Now on to June and the activities we have going on: June 3, 2016 - Friday Night Meet and Greet. Shag lessons will begin at 7:30 pm. This was our very first time to attend this event and what a fantastic event it was! There was continuous dancing all day and night and into the wee hours. There was shagging, swing dancing, cabaret, and everything in between. A typical day would start out with "floor trials" at 6am 10am. Then the workshops and competitions, which were held in the Main Ballroom and the Habersham Ballroom. All of this, with plenty of "social dancing" for everyone. Each afternoon there was an Ice Cream Social hosted by the Junior Shag Association. Saturday was a Juniors Pizza Party hosted by Brennar Goree and Ashley Sagturday night ended with a "Theme Party & Costume Contest" for everyone. The fun began at Midnight. The theme was "take a walk on the wild side". There was Safari, Jungle Book, Noah's Ark, and so much more. It was terrific. Sunday brought more competing and workshops and it all ended with Awards being presented Sunday night. This was a "first class" event with dancing of the highest caliber. I was so very proud of all of our juniors that participated. In the shag category alone, there were 10 couples in Junior I and 13 couples in Junior II. Most of these participated in several different categories: Pro-Am; Mixed Doubles; YADA; Cabaret; and Team. I have listed below our local winners and their placements.
