President’s Message
L
ast Thursday evening I was invited to the Local 718 awards banquet at Florian Hall and
was honored by President Rich Paris as an Honorary Member of the Local. This is an award
that I accept personally but also as a representative of the entire team at Boston Firefighters
Credit Union, who works day in and day out to provide service to the members of Local 718.
It is through the efforts of this team that the Credit Union and Local 718 have come to form
a strong working relationship. It is a relationship that started many years ago when BFCU was just a small “Firefighter
Only” Credit Union and through the years as the Credit Union has grown stronger by adding new members, additional
staff, new products and services and even a new branch, the relationship between the Credit Union and the Local has also
grown stronger. Through all of these changes, the BFCU Team has never lost track of our mission to serve our members.
This same level of service and this same close working relationship between the credit union and labor is in evidence with
our work with the PFFM and their leadership team under the direction of Ed Kelly and Jay Colbert. Furthermore since
February of 2015, we have begun to establish similar connections with the labor unions that represent the Suffolk county
Sheriffs, The Boston Police and the Massachusetts State Police.
The Board of Directors at BFCU has great respect for the labor organizations that we are affiliated with and we realize
that these organizations and the credit union share a common goal which is to improve the lives of our members. Working
together and in constant communication with union officials we are able to demonstrate the difference that comes with a
credit union that is uniquely focused on a small and well defined group of members. This is the way we have worked and
will continue to work and we are proud of it.
