Dear Jessica,
Have you been to Busch Gardens lately? I had the privilege to go to Busch Gardens yesterday to hear
about their upcoming attraction, Falcon's Fury. This new ride will be open just in time for Spring
2014. It's definitely a ride for all you daredevils! Personally, I will stick to the SheiKra (ahhh, if only it
was longer....). While there I thought about when I visited the park for the first time (did you know
it's over 50 years old?) and all the fun I had looking at the exotic animals and plants and going on
the wild rides. I still enjoy these attractions and now I've added shopping and going to the shows as
well. They even sell plants! Busch Gardens has changed over the years and is always improving. The
Beach Chamber sells discounted Busch Gardens tickets, so if it's been a while since you've been I
recommend that you head on over and spend an afternoon enjoying this park. It's right in our
backyard!

Four Bridges To Be
Replaced On Island
Way
Two bridges are located on Island
Way (between Skiff Point and Palm
Island SE), and two are on Harbor
Passage (from Island Way to Snug
Island and also Harbor Island). The
City of Clearwater will perform
bridge reconstruction, and design is
currently underway. Final plans are
expected within
nine to 12 months.
The city anticipates construction to
begin in 2014. In the meantime,
certain portions of the bridges will be
restricted during the design phase.
Safety zones will be marked with
road striping in order to maintain
safe means of access until the bridges
are replaced, and designated areas
will not be open to vehicular traffic
(to be marked by roadway striping,
signage, and barriers).

DISCOVER CALADESI
Part One: Getting there is part of the adventure!
When was the last time you took a day to enjoy Caladesi
Island? I've spoken with several locals lately and asked
that question. We all sing its praises: It's been named the
best beach in the country twice in the last ten years. It's
only a few miles away and you can get there from here.
In fact, getting there is part of the adventure. For those
who relish long walks on the beach, head north from Pier
60 and in about 5 miles, you'll be there. You can
purchase a cold beverage and lunch on the island and sit

in the sun for a while before the long trek back.
Or drive up Alt 19 and turn left at the Dunedin
Causeway. Honeymoon Island is a marvelous state park.
Hop on the ferry from there to Caladesi. It only takes 20
minutes and starts at 10am each morning. Tickets are $14
for adults and $7 for children, but there's currently a $1
off coupon on the website, www.caladesiferry.org. You
may stay 4 hrs and take your own cooler and beach
accessories.
And of course, those who own their own boats can utilize
the lovely 108-slip marina on Caladesi. Glide into one of
the slips and register at the park office. The cost of a boat
slip is $6.00 for the day. You can even spend the night on
your boat. The cost to spend the night on your boat in the
marina is $1.00 per foot

But I'd like to recommend the best option from
Clearwater Beach Marina: The Tropics Boat Tour
daylong excursion to Caladesi. Plan on a Saturday or
Sunday and make your reservation in advance at
www.TheTropicsBoatTours.com. It's $60/person ($32 for
ages 4-12; 3 and under FREE) for the cruise and the
entire day on the island. You may park in the marina the
whole day for just $4 with the pass from the Tropics
kiosk. Bring all your beach paraphernalia and enjoy the 1
½ hr cruise up to Caladesi. Pass under the Sand Key
Bridge and enjoy the outstanding view of the entire
length of Clearwater Beach. And watch for the dolphins!
Two spotted off the bow on the starboard side. There's
another off the stern on the port side. Our intrepid captain
briefly explains the history of the islands and their
changes thanks to Mother Nature. It's all so beautiful!
And there are plenty of beverages on board to stay
hydrated. You can stay up top or cruise in the comfort of
the cabin below. As we near the island, we view the
mangroves, wide variety of birds, and the captain
skillfully guides the boat into its pier.
