P a g e 2 T h e E n c h a n t e d By Andrew Fincham South Harrison High School held their annual Prom at the 4-H Center beside Rt. 19 on May 11th, 2013. The Prom was paid for and decorated by the Junior class of South Harrison High School. The Junior class designed and decorated the building very well. The decorations were based off the theme, “An Enchanted Fairytale.” “Thought is the blossom; language the bud, action the fruit behind it. -Ralph Waldo Emerson While at the dance, there was a wide variety of music and snacks. (S/O to Mr. Skiviat for pouring drinks!) The night started off very quickly, many of the people attending the dance were there an hour or so before it even started. Many of the senior and junior class officers attended the dance the earliest, which is a great way to show support of your class. F e s t i v a l that also preformed were Preston, Monongalia, Marion, and Taylor. The songs the band preformed were Blue Ridge Saga and Among the Clouds. After a performance done well, the concert band received a 2, which is an excellent rating. Give me a beat! The SHHS Band plays “Hail Hawks” during a Track “send-off” rally. In total they lost 17 games and won 10 games. Head Coach Frank Tate commented “we are young and we are building for the future.” He also added “there are 16 returning ball players for next season.” 3 2012-13 Hawks Baseball Team: Ian Riggleman, Tyler Childers, Gaige Evans, Justin Fridley, Cory Messenger. Changes like this occur all over Harrison County each school year. South Harrison High School Principal James Lopez will be taking the lead administration position at Lincoln High School. Harrison County Superintendent, Susan Collins hopes to immediately fill the vacant principal position at SHHS. Mr. Lopez started at SHHS as an assistant principal in 2008 and was then named principal in 2009-10. He taught at Gore Middle School for more than 10 years and at Mountaineer Middle School for several years. W e l l June 3-4—Regular School Days June 5-7– Exams M r . J a m e s He is no stranger to the Lincoln H.S. Community. He was the head football coach at LHS for nearly 10 years. Mr. Lopez is a resident of Lumberport and a father of four children. He is looking forward to working in his own community. He told the local paper that he is excited, happy, and sad all at the same time. L o p e z This year’s juniors, Class of 2014 , will probably be the most affected by his departure. Many have commented that they would have liked to have Mr. Lopez as their principal during their last year of high school. We say thank you and all the best in your new position. South Harrison faculty and staff are not surprised by his decision to take the opportunity to work in the school system of his own community. Students of SHHS are still processing the fact that he will be leaving and a new administrator will be taking his place sometime during this summer. At his desk in the main high school office, Principal Lopez sits back and reflects on his time spent at South Harrison High. “Once a Hawk– Always A Hawk!”
