Welcome!
On behalf of the entire Phoenix Family Housing team, welcome to
Masquer8!
By attending this event tonight and generously supporting Phoenix
Family, you are enhancing the quality of life for more than 4,500 low-income
families and individuals who turn to Phoenix Family every day for help.
While the U.S. poverty statistics a few years ago were alarming, the newest
report from the U.S. Census Bureau is downright frightening. Today,
• The official poverty rate is now 14.3% – the highest poverty rate since
1994.
• 43.6 million Americans are in poverty – the largest number in the 51
years for which poverty estimates have been published.
• The poverty rate for children under the age of 18 is 20.7%.
With nearly 44 million Americans living in poverty, families and
individuals desperately have to make the hard choices between rent, food,
heat, education and health care. When that happens, Phoenix Family is there to
help.
Crisis may bring residents to our doors, but because Phoenix Family is
on-site, residents stay involved. Like them, we’re invested in the community.
Through the multitude of resources and support services Phoenix Family
provides, our families, youth, and seniors get the support they need to set
goals and reach stability, make positive, long-lasting changes, and break the
cycle of generational poverty. The number of lives we can change tomorrow
rests in your hands today.
Our Mission:
Phoenix Family Housing
empowers people living in
low-income housing communities
with the on-site support they
need to gain stability and achieve
self-sufficiency.
Please focus on helping the children, families and older adults in our
community and bid high, bid often, and have a great time!
Sincerely,
Kimber Myers Givner

About Phoenix Family
Masquer8
Masquer8
Since 2000, Phoenix Family has worked
with people living in low-income housing
to create a stable, safe home. With an
average annual household income of just
$12,416, many are just one crisis away from
becoming homeless.
But, like millions of low-income families
across the United States, the people we
serve need more than housing to overcome
challenges that hinder their successes – they also require services where
they live.
Every day, Phoenix Family Housing provides these services to more
than 4,500 people living in low-income housing communities. We work
on-site in each housing community and our programs are available
to all. Through our Senior Empowerment, Families First and Youth
Development programs, we provide
services tailored to each person, their age
and their unique needs.
Because of Phoenix Family, residents
have someone to turn to when they are
in crisis ... when rent is due and the
checking account is empty ... when it’s
cold outside and the heating bill needs to
be paid and a job is lost ... when dinner
is to be served and there is no food in the pantry ..... Phoenix Family is
about more than just providing people a place to stay — we provide the
tools and opportunities low-income families and individuals need to
make a home for themselves and their families.
Towards the end of each year, the U.S.
Census Bureau counts the number of
Americans living in poverty. In 2010,
the report highlighted the continuing
impact the recession has had on lowincome American families.
A few of the key finds include:
• The official poverty rate is now
14.3%, the highest poverty rate
since 1994.
• 43.6 million Americans are
living in poverty - the largest
number since they first started
publishing the poverty rate 51
years ago.
• The poverty rate for children
under the age of 18 is 20.7%.
• In Missouri, since 2000, the
percentage of Missourians living
in poverty has nearly doubled.
That number grew at more than
3.5 times the national average.
With nearly 44 million Americans,
1 in 6 children, and 1 in 10 seniors
living in poverty, families and
seniors have to make the hard choices
between rent, food, heat, electricity,
and healthcare. To make matters
worse, low-income Missourians saw
their median real income decline by
2.8% (compared to 1.8% nationally).
Phoenix Family's services and
programs are needed more than
ever today. With your help, we
can help those we serve make a
better life for themselves and their
family. TOGETHER, we can change
tomorrow.
